eye make-up always smudging..feel like giving up!

By midday, my make-up (especially eyes) is very smudged.. I dint wear a lot, or mascara on lower lashes
I have invested in long wear liner, and also Urban Decays all-nighter fixing spray, which is supposed to be amazing..Still smudges! I use a little powder, but not too much
Is there any hope? I'm 40 btw
Thanks in advance:)

I have only had success with No 7 Stay Perfect tubing mascara and Eyeko felt - tip style eyeliner; everything else smudges sooner or later, even the “waterproof” ones.

the cheaper Rimmel pencil eyeliner is the best pencil one but that eventually shifts too. I wear contact lenses which may make a difference.

ChocAuVin · 28/05/2022 21:51

No fix for the eyeliner I’m afraid (posted asking similar a while ago) however, the antidote to mascara panda eye is unequivocally tubing mascara.

It does NOT smudge or smear. Ever. No7 Stay Perfect Mascara or L’Oreal Beauty Tubes both work.

Watching the thread for the magic solution to eyeliner…

Goldfishjones · 28/05/2022 21:52

This happens to me. I have oily skin and find that applying some mattifying primer (I use Rimmel)
around the eye area works really well.

Pea79 · 28/05/2022 22:01

I can highly recommend Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner. I tried about 10 different eyeliners before discovering this and it's excellent. I wear it literally all day and providing you don't rub your eyes, it should stay put.

olympicsrock · 28/05/2022 22:04

Are you using a facial oil or eye cream? These make my makeup run.

Clinique lash power is good - was developed for the Asian market due to humidity. It will only come off with hot water. It will not come off in rain / exercise/ swimming. Not very gentle on your lashes though

BowerOfBramble · 28/05/2022 22:04

Liquid eyeliner, one of the ones that has a little tiny “paintbrush” style brush rather than a big felt tip type end. L’Oréal has one I think and some others. Any kind of liquid eyeliner anyway ought to stay put through most things. I gave up with pencils esp in the summer.

Sodthatforagameofsoldiers · 28/05/2022 22:11

Eyeliner is ok for me but mascara is a nightmare.

I now search for and use tubing mascaras but even they sometimes seem to flake, and often come off onto my upper eyelid rather than below my eyes. I use powder and/or fixing sprays and it still happens. So annoying.

TheDogsMother · 28/05/2022 22:35

Are you using concealer under your eyes ? I found this made my makeup drift badly.

Afterfire · 28/05/2022 22:40

I used to work for Clinique and then Chanel for 15 years. The only way I could ever get eye make up to last on either myself or anyone I made up was to apply foundation all over the eyelid and eye area and then pat pressed power over that and then apply the make up. I know modern tutorials on you tube etc seem to suggest you don’t / shouldn’t do that but honestly unless I do it just slides off, even more so now I’m 41.

bluejelly · 28/05/2022 22:48

Masterpiece mascara from Max Factor doesn't budge.

DumpedByText · 28/05/2022 22:58

I have oily eyelids, the only mascara that does not smudge is Clinique Lash Power or Estee Lauder double wear. I also use Estee Lauder double wear eyeliner and it doesn't budge.

Oceanus · 28/05/2022 22:58

I have deep-set eyes and veeeery oily eyelids so I'm prone to smuding too (mostly on the right eye for some weird reason). I also have eye allergies which make me scratch my eyes a lot. I can vouch for:

  • Rimmel Liquid eyeliner - it won't smudge after drying but I need to close my eyes for a bit to really let it dry which is a pain but then it stays put all day (waterproof pencils and whatnot do zilch for me);

  • Micellar water - I use it on my eyelids to wipe away any traces of cream;

  • Mac Fix + on eyelids - under eyeshadow and then over eyeshadow (takes away the powdery look and sets it all;

  • After concealing/correcting my racoon undereye circles I powder and then put Fix + over (if I skip this step it cakes up);

  • Maybelline mascara waterproof - this one really stays put all day without smudging; others melt into the skin giving me a "lovely grey-ish look".

I have UD All-nighter too but to be completely honest I'm yet to figure out what it does, if anything! But maybe it depends on the type of skin? Anyways it doesn't work for me.
I also avoid cream eyeshadow. After a couple of hours it cakes up and there's nothing to be done.
I also use UD primer on my lids ocasionally, when I can be bothered because it has to dry too. You can add that step to extend the wear time.

Oceanus · 28/05/2022 23:00

There's another tip I forgot: after putting on liquid eyeliner, go over it with a powder eyeliner/eyeshadow. It'll last a bit longer.

Dontsayyouloveme · 28/05/2022 23:09

Another tip, just use mascara on the opposite side where you would normally put it.. then use a clear gel mascara on the underside! Looks like you have mascara on as normal and doesn’t smear!

BobbinThreadbare123 · 28/05/2022 23:13

Same. Mascara doesn't go anywhere but I have hooded eyelids. I don't have oily skin either; I have super dry skin to the point of cracking in winter. Smudgy! Annoying when you're a goth and you wear a lot of kohl 😆

Oceanus · 28/05/2022 23:18

Another product I can vouch for: Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner. Lasts all day long! I moved away from this one because I now favour mostly eyeshadow as eyeliner -more forgiving on my wrinkles but still a great product.
Another one I can't vouch for yet though I've actually already bought it is the Inglot Duraline. You mix it with regular eyeshadow and it turns into a concrete-proof eyeliner. I've read wonders about it so I'm giving it a try. Should work for you too.

Wasywasydoodah · 28/05/2022 23:28

I have the same problem but happy now using Eyeko Eye do eyeliner and clinique lash power mascara

Eliphanbee · 29/05/2022 08:21

Do you use eye cream in the morning? Try using half the amount just at night and see if that helps.

comfortablyfrumpy · 29/05/2022 08:42

I am the same (also contact lenses, I haven't thiught that might be linked before).

I have discovered a gel liner which stays put - I didn‘t really expect it to! Only thing is it is by Tropic, which is an MLM. But it is bloody amazing.

hihellohihello · 29/05/2022 09:02

I use a very dark highly pigmented mineral powder eyeshadow as liner. Put on with a small flat angled liner brush at the root of the lashes. You sort of just press and waggle the brush into the root, very easy. That might work for you.

TroysMammy · 29/05/2022 09:09

Thank goodness for this thread. I always thought it was me being cack handed and rushing in the morning. I only wear mascara on my top lashes, only use face cream when I remember or when looking particularly haggard (it doesn't work miracles in those circumstances). I always get smudges on my lids.

Taking it off is also a challenge. Even though I use Simple eye make up remover and the pad is clear I always wake up with panda eyes. Can anyone recommend a non oily makeup remover please.

Floweryflora · 29/05/2022 09:11

I suspect it’s the eye cream that’s doing it. How long do you wait to apply makeup after applying the eye cream?

Anyfeckinusername · 29/05/2022 09:12

I feel like a dinosaur now, I’d never heard of tubing mascara, was reading thinking doesn’t it always come in a tube!!?! Have googled now and I’m off to get one today, thanks to this thread 😊

Sodthatforagameofsoldiers · 29/05/2022 09:16

Tubing mascara is great but I find it is really hard to work out which ones are tubing mascara. If I was a makeup company I'd be shouting from the rooftops which of my mascaras was a tubing mascara, but they don't seem to? I've found most of the info about them here on MN...
