What is the most ridiculous thing you have worn and in which decade?

I'm torn between the orange poncho c1975 or the 'snow-washed' denim jacket c1984.

Probably the latter as that was my choice, the former was chosen by some evil hag my mother.

A tie to my first school disco (1985)
Why didn't my mother stop me? Worn with a shiny electric blue shirt with shoulder pads.

ZippiBabes · 12/01/2008 17:21

ptobably wine coloured chunky cord jodphurs whichh the jodphur part on the thighs was very exaggerated and the waist and the below knee bit was very tight with

abaggy multicoloured striped silk shirt thing that had a tie to draw it in at the waist..that was from wallis i think not sure where the trousers were from

1979

also had jodphurs when i was a secondary teacher in grey cord that was in 1981..the kids thought they were very funny..didn't deter me tho

Lauriefairycake · 12/01/2008 17:22

marble washed denim skirt with two slits up the front, worn with white high heels and orange (sun-in) hair. On the top I wore a bobbly singlet jumper with a puffy cat on the front.(1987/88)

Even in this frankly hideous photo I still look better than now, tanned legs, size 10, perfect skin...........wtf did I think I was fat ?????

obviously the 80s

pinstriped skintight jeans

plus sweatshirt

plus denim waistcoat

plus legwarmers

ZippiBabes · 12/01/2008 17:24

actually i have worn far morte ridiculous things than that most of the stuff i wore between 13 and 22 was pretentious and weird in the extreme an d mostly made by me or second hand from my grandma and charity shops

brimfull · 12/01/2008 17:25

hareem trousers in the 80's

crotch was at my knees

ZippiBabes · 12/01/2008 17:26

so that would be the 70s but i was pretty much considered a weirdo at the time for very good reason lol

brimfull · 12/01/2008 17:27

omg have just had a traumatic flashback of stretch cord legging/trouseers with stirrups under heel and worn with short black boots.

bet they come back

psychomum5 · 12/01/2008 17:27

probably any and all clothes worn in the 80's!

most hidious that sticks in mind were white and cerise pink polka dot leggings, and they were the first style type that went all baggy at the knees the MOMENT you put them on!!!!

also, my dalmation reversable top with bleached skin-tight jeans and pixie boots...I thought I looked sooooooo cool, but maybe not.

along with the crimped hair!

SheikYerbouti · 12/01/2008 17:27

Early 90s. Day-glo everything especially Bermuda Shorts and voluminous t-shirt

Global Hypercoluor (why the fuck would I wnat my sweat patches to be orange, ffs?)

Ripped tights with flowery dresses and crushed velvet hats along with 16 hole cherry red DMs(1993)

Spidermama · 12/01/2008 17:28

Pink and black back combed hiar, shaved at the sides. You get one guess at the era.

3andnomore · 12/01/2008 17:28

oh, mine were some white trousers with multicoloured stripes in girlie colours...made worse by the fact that the trousers were in the "pumpstyles"...i.e. bit like Clowtrousers... I was around 10 years old, so, around 1980....what was I thinking...

cornsilk · 12/01/2008 17:28

80's definitely - rara skirt, puffball skirt, leggings including fuschia and red ones! Black pvc jacket, pink netting socky type things, off the shoulder tops and that's not including the scarey hair!

Lizzylou · 12/01/2008 17:28

I remember one horrific outfit from the mid/late 80's,

Yellow Baseball jacket worn with long yellow and white striped T-Shirt with white belt round hips, long yellow tight knitted skirt, white flat dolly shoes and yellow and orange ankle socks.

My naturally curly hair had been permed so I looked, as my younger brother loved to remind me, like Bungle from Rainbow.

UGH! I looked like a fricking banana (but a size 10 banana)

rosybud · 12/01/2008 17:29

Many many bracelets all together 30+.
Tight patterned jeans, white bomber jacket.
Pink pixie boots with black lacy tights/leggings.
Big black stretchy belts, like huge elastic bands.
Obviously still the 80s.

SheikYerbouti · 12/01/2008 17:29

and ski-pants

why?

Black ones with cerise elasticy bits

they were terribly uncomfortable

brimfull · 12/01/2008 17:29

sheik-yes that's what I was remembering Ski pants hahahahah

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 12/01/2008 17:34

I quite liked the tea-dress & DMs look of the '90s - I didn't wear it though as I was no longer a student!

I thank the lord I didn't do hareem pants. Or jeans of any description. But I'm guilty on charges of legging-wearing.

OP posts:
gibberish · 12/01/2008 17:34

Pink mohair leg warmers. All I can think to say is - Why? Pointless things. And I am allergic to wool so as well as looking ridiculous, they itched like hell and drove me mad. But I still wore them...

In the late 80's obviously which seems to be the worst decade in history fashion wise.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 12/01/2008 17:36

ooh rosybud - I had some of the tightest, widest, stretchiest belts imaginable. On a teeny waist too.

OP posts:
rosybud · 12/01/2008 17:39

I know Duchess, if only we had appreciated what we had then. I wish low waisted jeans had been invented in the 80s...sigh. But those belts were shocking.

MAMAZON · 12/01/2008 17:48
