What is the most ridiculous thing you have worn and in which decade?

I'm torn between the orange poncho c1975 or the 'snow-washed' denim jacket c1984.

Probably the latter as that was my choice, the former was chosen by some evil hag my mother.

Pruners - did we ever wear stilettos teamed with socks though? .

Leopard print skintight blue jeans circa 1985. Brrrrrrrrrr. No wonder my mum walked five feet in front or behind me in this era!

Or those horrible horrible jeans with elasticated ankles in 1983. Mine were too short for me. They looked especially nice with white towelling socks and size 8, grey, plastic courts. I was only 12 then and already had massive feet but was stick thin.

I can look back with horror but I actually haven't got any more stylish in my middle age!

I just remembered a pair of tartan patterned denim jeans I had about 1985.

Black hot pants
Fishnet nights
Net mini-skirt over the shorts
Polka-dot bolero blazer on top

1990

It's not so much as worn clothes wise. BUT I had a Kevin Keegan perm in the mid 80's . I know the man is GOD but I just looked ridiculous.
Yes before you ask I am a lady not a man

Sapphire blue velour jumpsuit, c. 1986.

Forgive me.

bookwormmum · 12/01/2008 19:53

I had Dr Marten shoes with tartan flashes on the back. As no end of people failed to point out, the tartan wasn't the same on both shoes (er, I think that was the whole point?).

Not one person registered the fact I was wearing 'sensible shoes' at the age of 16 albeit they were in fashion . So much more comfy than the ballet-shoe style or backless loafers teenagers seem to fave now .

keeptaking - I'm not sure it's possible to forgive velour AND a jumpsuit.

Likewise I will never be forgiven for having large, gold buttons on every jacket I owned between 1981 and 1990.

I know, I know....

If not forgiveness ..... pity ?

In the year of Charles and Diana's wedding, my mum made me a skirt from commemorative royal wedding fabric. It was printed with little crests, crowns, the initials C and D, and curly ribbons.

c.1989, I remember wearing a jumpsuit printed with a very loud and vivid pattern of black, grey and white blotches.

bookwormmum · 12/01/2008 21:38

I had loads of velour tracksuits and a shell suit for about 10 mins in 1991. Until I realised I looked like a badly-wrapped Quality Street chocolate .

FrayedKnot · 12/01/2008 21:42

Gold plaited hairband with sequins hanging off

c. 1982

God I remember those Global Hypercolour t-shirts

oxocube · 13/01/2008 13:33

original American 1950s guys' baseball pants worn either with an RAF flying jacket or a long green parka with baseball boots

lazarou · 13/01/2008 13:37

I bought a 'velma from scooby doo' style dress in 1996, wore my hair in pigtails and went shopping with my friend. What the hell was I thinking?!
