Anyone else think M&S have upped their game?

I'm not sure if it's because I recently turned 40 or if M&S have improved their womens clothing?! Lately I've found so many great work clothes in there, I have their fine knit jumper in every colour, their wide leg black lined trousers and even the jeans are a great fit for me.

I also recently got some beige tailored trousers and there is so much on the website I like the look of.

I used to hate M&S clothes but maybe it's now my age and tastes changing?!

Another vote for the jeggings! They wash really well and do not lose their shape.

IrishMamaMia · 15/05/2022 19:54

I love their basics, separates and shoes in recent years. Generally good quality, quite classic and a good price.
I think it is partially me getting older but also think they understand what customers want.

CottonSock · 15/05/2022 19:55

I got a crochet style vest recently and it's really flattering on.

Evilista · 15/05/2022 20:00

I love their food, home ware and kids clothes, and am starting to warm to their women's wear as well. I love their swim wear, it's properly supportive and well cut and works well on my awkward figure. Plenty of one pieces. I was eyeing up their gym leggings and denim shorts the other day. I remember their clothes used to make me cringe. I'm glad I'm not getting old they're getting better though! Good to know

Trafficjamlog · 15/05/2022 20:07

I’ve bought the majority of my clothes there over the last couple of years. I think they’re absolutely fantastic either online or in the big stores. The smaller ones are a bit hit or miss

I love:
jeans
wide legged trousers
cotton blouses
pyjamas
trainers
boots
dresses. I love the so short regular and long

I stick to decent fabrics, lots of cotton, viscose (which I like), good classic cuts and 99.9% plain block colours

QueenofLouisiana · 15/05/2022 20:10

Phew! I was too embarrassed to admit I’ve just bought several things from them. Two dresses and a pair of (very comfortable) Birkenstock look-a-likes.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 15/05/2022 20:11

I do like the fact that you can search by fabric online. I've found that the range in store is generally poor though. I see something online then go to find it in store and am often told it's not being stocked in the (big, city centre) branch.

I really don't care if it's a man or woman staffing the changing rooms though, tbh.

CaliforniaDrumming · 15/05/2022 20:17

I have also found some things I like on John Lewis lately. I think because current fashions- smocking, frilly collars, massive sleeves- are so unflattering for women for a certain age, I am returning to classic, less "trendy" stores.

I love their shoes ( I don't wear leather ) they have a good range of vegan shoes , often (but not always) half-sizes . I have narrow feet and find they suit me
Love the jeggings .
I have jeans but not worn them yet .

I bought some holiday clothes , loved them.
My work clothes are scrubs but I wear leggings/top to go to/from work in.

They are giving more choice with underwear and less sequins'n'frill
Though I did like the Indigo range , now gone Sad

Yes, I was a big Indigo range fan also.

Riverlee · 15/05/2022 20:48

Also, Sparks discount card has good offers on there.

Wartywart · 15/05/2022 20:54

I agree. Men's trousers are great. I buy work dresses there and just ordered a summer dress for an upcoming holiday. Oh, and really liked their collaboration with Ghost just before Christmas.

Gherkingreen · 15/05/2022 20:56

I love M&S, and proud of it. I won't buy jeans from anywhere else, their wide-legged crepe trousers are brilliant. I'm tall and their long leg length is reliable.
Recently bought a fantastic black denim blouson jacket (described as a shirt but it's thick and better for me as a jacket) and have my eye on a midi broderie anglaise cotton summer dress and a pair of leather espadrilles, just not sure whether to get them in black or white. Their linen shirts are brilliant.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 15/05/2022 20:56

I've been stocking up too - I think the plain work suitable basics have really improved.

I have bought a jersey blazer I love so much I think I might get it in another colour, relaxed fit t-shirts in black and while, and both wide leg and ankle grazer trousers recently.

I'm short and their jeans are brilliant for me! I have the Lily in all the colours. Just bought their chinos for work in navy, khaki and the beige. I love how they do petite and different lengths.

Their workout stuff is brilliant. Cashmere is also great. I have other work trousers - basic ankle grazers that go with everything.

And I recently found a long black linen dress in the sale that was last year's stock that scanned at the till for £3.75. I ran off with it cackling.

I think the dress I just bought might be the one you've got your eye on. :)

I do think their jeans are good and recently bought a pair of these spring/summer weight joggers. They are 15% Polyester (not happy that it’s not recycled Polyester, but I couldn’t find lighter weight ones that were any better) and 85% Cotton. I wasn’t sure I’d like them, but I find them stylish and comfortable!

Unfortunately, most of the stuff that draws my eye has too much synthetic fibre in it for my taste.

Magenta82 · 15/05/2022 21:27

They have really gone downhill when it comes to tights, changed the names and shades of the colours, vastly reduced the range and don't stock all colours in all ranges.

This was the total extent of all the tights stocked in Watford yesterday!

Anyone else think M&S have upped their game?
StridTheKiller · 15/05/2022 21:32

Nope, they're still shite! Next on the other hand 👌

MinglingFlamingo · 15/05/2022 21:38

I really like their underwear, swimwear and some of their shoes. Also their good quality basics.

The fact that it's the only decent good quality high street shop in a 15 mile of me has nothing to do with it.

ArabeI · 15/05/2022 21:43

Possibly! Their sportswear is really quite good and I wear it alongside Sweaty Betty and more premium brands. I recommend the yoga pants.

Also things like tights, cotton nightwear and their period underwear is a recent discovery I like just as well as modibodi.

bookmarket · 15/05/2022 21:46

I get the odd thing there and like what I see online. M&S bras have been great for my 16 year old who is a large cupsize, small band size. Lots of pretty miimiser bras in different colours, non-wired, that are comfortable look pretty for a teen girl

glamosaurus · 15/05/2022 21:57

I'm not sure if it's because I recently turned 40 or if M&S have improved their womens clothing?!

Er yeah, it's totally because you've turned 40! M&S are dreadful for clothes and don't care about women's rights or dignity.

Carpediem15 · 15/05/2022 21:58

Getting their period underwear is like trying to buy hens teeth. Been in 2 shops and neither sell them and online the ones I want are out of stock and have been for ages.
Did buy a Per Una reversible denim jacket which is nice material and well fitting but that was also a bugger to try and buy. The shop only had one of each size and mine was sold out and as it was new in went online and they had sold out of all sizes. At different times of day one would come up to buy then disappear when I had it in my basket, then it would come back and I would try again until finally got one at 3 in the morning when I got up for a wee and decided to have a look online. Glad I stuck with it though.

I got some on ebay

@Libertybear80
Jigsaw is a very different price point from M&S . That’s comparing apples and pears. M&S sell Jigsaw on line.

I rarely buy in a shop these days. Try on at home and returns are collected from home. I’ve found cotton dresses, shirts, chinos and jeans to be excellent. Reliable sizes. Their leather and suede loafers are fantastic value. I bought a leather jacket in the winter and it’s soft snd beautiful.

I miss wool trousers. I wish they did patterned silk shirts. I would love more trouser suits. They can be a bit slow to follow trends and when they do, items sell out very quickly. Overall though they are better but I want wool trousers! Please M&S if you read this.
