What do you get "done" professionally / at home?

beautyrookie · 10/05/2022 12:38

I've seen older threads for this so thought I'd start up a new one.

What hair and beauty treatments do you pay for to get done professionally, and what do you do yourself? Total cost? And how old are you?

I'm 30.
I think I'm fairly minimal really but thinking of ramping it up now that I'm getting into my 30s.

Currently get my hair cut professionally, no colour. Considering colour but don't want the hassle/cost of the upkeep.
And I've had teeth whitening at the dentist in the past, which I will top up shortly.
And I think that's it when it comes to paying for professional treatments!

Nails I just keep short and paint myself. But considering pedicures.
I do sometimes use fake tan in the summer and I think I'm pretty good at doing it myself, although I am tempted to just go for a spray tan now.
I don't get botox/filler etc, and don't think I ever will (but ask me again in 5 years haha).

Considered eyelash extensions in the past but don't think I'd like the cost/time of the upkeep.

I like to think my hair/beauty regime is fairly low cost. I'm really only paying for a £35 wet cut once every few months.

I mean, she asked. Not getting Botox isn't virtue signalling. It's just not getting Botox!

And that's great. Presumably the OP will get the responses she is after by people responding in good faith rather than other people coming on to snidely imply that their (not stated) position on the subject is "better"

hopeishere · 10/05/2022 17:43

Done
Hair cut and colour
Pedicure
Laser on my legs

Home
Faffing with various creams
Nails short and filed
Do own tan occasionally

MadisonMontgomery · 10/05/2022 17:52

Salon - hair cuts, botox, have also had ombré brows and Invisalign.

Home - dye hair, fake tan, gel nails & toenails, and all basic stuff obvs.

Would really like lash extensions but not sure if I could make time for the upkeep!

Classica · 10/05/2022 17:53

Professionally:

Hair cut
Gel pedicure

(although, thinking of getting my hair coloured again and also planning to get invisalign)

At home:

tint brows
any hair removal
acids and retin-a and all the skincare stuff

Spoldge45 · 10/05/2022 17:56

I'm 42

The only things I regularly get done professionally are

T Bar Highlights & a trim - Every 6-7 weeks (There is no way I could do this myself at home!!

I also get Lash Lift Every 2 months.

During the summer months May-September I do also get my legs waxed & have a 2/3 gel pedicures.

I'm slightly shocked at how many of you get botox/fillers etc..😮

I'm must be getting old as I've never heard of lip blush or LED Masks!! I'm gonna Google them with interest later though!! 😂

catsonahottinroof · 10/05/2022 17:59

I pay for a very cheap haircut and dye my own hair (thinking of starting at a fancier hairdressers and having a professional colour a minimal amount of times a year)
Have just started gel pedicure, but am only planning to have three a year in the summer months (so approx April, June, Aug/Sep)
Do finger nails at home (occasionally, usually bare) but may start having gel nails as one offs (prob about twice a year)
That's all I can think of for now.

Recycledblonde · 10/05/2022 18:05

Salon
Cut and colour every 5 weeks
Gel nails, fingers and toes, I keep my nails short but love having gels
Legs and underarms waxed
Brows waxed, sometimes tinted, lashes tinted.

It varies as to how often, just when I feel like it.

Home it’s just the odd face mask and deep hair conditioning.

I’m 57.

noborisno · 10/05/2022 18:23

I'm in my forties.

I cut my own hair
dye my own hair
nails are not done, but would be if I could afford a manicure every week, well I just don't deem it necessary and there's always things I buy first. I think I'd only do my nails regularly if I was actually wealthy.
feet not done

I like eyelash extensions and for a very special occasion will get them done

My money goes on skincare and makeup. I buy Fenty makeup and subscription medicated formulas then skincare I will pay up to £150 for one thing. My skin is probably the most important thing to me. I don't look my age and I never tire of hearing it really

Busybeeble · 10/05/2022 18:24

Salon haircut a few times a year, sometimes less sometimes more depending on style (no colour)
Trim and file nails at home
Occasionally shave pits and legs if I feel like it but usually don’t bother for months on end
SPF moisturiser

I don’t feel the need to do my brows, eyelashes, bikini wax etc and would never ever consider Botox or fillers

Busybeeble · 10/05/2022 18:26

Should add, in 40s now but much the same as in my youth except I probably felt slightly more social pressure to shave then

Ohchristmastreeohchristmastree · 10/05/2022 18:26

I’m in my 40’s.

Home
haircut
highlights
Waxing/shaving
fake tan
Nails

Salon
I once got my eyelashes tinted.

Would love to tint my own lashes, what does everyone use?

I love DIYing stuff, and I think I’m really good at it, if I could do my own Botox and fillers at home I think I would. Never had it done, but how hard can it be?!😜

PeachMelba78 · 10/05/2022 19:19

Professionally -
Microneedling x3 times a year
Plasma Pen x2 year
Eyebrows micro bladed x1 year
Filler x2/3 year
Thread lift x1 year
Hair cut x2 year
Highlights/Balage x1 year
Shellac on toes x2 year
Massage x5/6 year

At home -
Roots and toner
Gel manicure and pedicure
Magnitone
Laser hair removal
Eyebrow shaping
Eyelash perm
Fake tan
Facials

I don’t see myself as high maintenance. I do loads of treatments on myself and I am a trained Beauty Therapist so I get good results! Some things are best left to a salon though.

Alwayspaintyournails · 10/05/2022 19:29

My username is probably a bit of a give away.

Salon:
Fortnightly - manicure.
Monthly - pedicure, eyebrow, lip, chin, underarm, leg and bikini wax.
Six weekly - Hair cut and colour roots plus toner (highlights every 12 weeks).

Random treats - facial / massage.

Home:
Weekly Olaplex
Good daily skin care

Enjoyallthewine · 10/05/2022 19:56

I pay for professional cut and colour every 6-8 wks. Everything else, I do myself at home.

EarringsandLipstick · 10/05/2022 20:10

Interesting thread.

Salon:

Fortnightly gel polish (fingers) and less frequently toenails
Monthly or so eyebrow tint & wax
Monthly bikini wax
6 - 8 weeks hair cut & colour, including 2 x year balayage. [the cost is ridiculously expensive]

Home:
Daily shave u/arms & legs
Occasional deep conditioning treatment
Toenails if no gel polish on them

That's it.

I don't get facials, would like to but can't really afford. I very occasionally do an overnight face mask at home & don't notice any result, really.

I would love to get more skin treatments such as micro needling but again, can't afford.

I have always thought no way to Botox, I still do, but I'm not sure that will always be the case - can't believe I'm saying that!

GoldenEclipse · 10/05/2022 20:14

Professionally - haircut and colour
Eyebrows
Gel Pedicure
everything else is either ignored or done at home.

Searchfornessie · 10/05/2022 20:16

Haircut probably twice a year at the moment as trying to grow it. Stopped getting it coloured a year ago.

Eye lash extensions.

Always have a gel mani and pedi. Hands done every two weeks. Feet every four.

Bikini wax every 5 weeks.

At home in fairly minimal. I buy nice skincare but I don’t do facials or anything like that. Shave my legs. Epilate under my arms. That’s about it!

LadyGardenersQuestionTime · 10/05/2022 20:17

My hairdresser and my waxer come to me at home Smile

Organictangerine · 10/05/2022 20:20

Home:
fake tan (either dove or skinny tan whipped strawberries and cream mousse)
brow tint (Schwarzkopf, much better than dyebrow)
gel nails & toe nails
shave every few days
wax my upper lip
olaplex my hair every few weeks

salon:
half head of foils and a cut every 3 months or so
occasional lash extensions usually for the Christmas period for parties etc
occasional acrylics as a treat

i don’t do much skincare, just removal of makeup in the evening, wash with water in the shower, moisturise after and exfoliate with St Ives once or twice a week. Skins never been better than when I stopped mucking about with washes etc.

weightedblanketofshame · 10/05/2022 20:47

Professionally

  • Hair cut

  • Laser hair removal

  • Deep tissue massage

  • Shave legs

  • Mani/pedi

  • Bleach or wax moustache (grrr)

  • Eyebrows

  • Fake tan

  • Face masks/facials

AledsiPad · 10/05/2022 20:50

Salon:
Hair cut, every 8 weeks but I'll sometimes push to 10. I have boring hair that doesn't get dyed and the fringe trims in between are free.
Nails, every 3 weeks.
Eyelash lifts, mine take this really well so I only need it doing every 12 weeks or so, again with free tint top ups in between.
Dermaplane facial, once every 6-8 weeks. Would never do this at home as I'd be terrified, but I love the results.

Home:
Face masks, once a week
Skin care like hylauronic acid, glycolic products, niacinamide. I have problem skin.
Shaving, never wax or anything else.
Eyebrows, just pluck the strays.
Massages: whenever I want, DH is pratically a masseuse at this point. We have a table, hot stones, oils etc. I am very spoilt Grin

HeatherShiver · 10/05/2022 20:55

I'm 51, I get professionally done
Botox/fillers 2/3 x a year
Hair extensions fitted
Gel nails as and when
Eyelash extensions 2x month
Do at home
Hair colour
Trim fringe
Fake tan as and when
Shape/dye brows and lashes
Teeth whitening
I use tret and moisturise with vaseline

SecretVictoria · 10/05/2022 21:06

Hair cut, approx every 6 weeks. It’s a pixie though and needs it, also get it bleached.

Acrylic nails, infill every 2 weeks and new set every 6-8 weeks.

Hollywood and eyebrow wax every 6 weeks.

Occasionally (3-4 times per year) I’ll have a massage/body treatment like exfoliation.

I used to get regular pedicures but only do that now if I’m on a beach holiday.

itssquidstella · 10/05/2022 21:13

Salón:
Hair cut (no colour)
Bikini wax
Manicure and pedicure (not that often - four/five times a year?)
Occasionally eyebrow threading

That's about the extent of it and I don't do a huge amount more at home, to be honest.

itssquidstella · 10/05/2022 21:14

I would quite like to get my teeth whitened, actually, and might look into it next year.
