What do you get "done" professionally / at home?

beautyrookie · 10/05/2022 12:38

I've seen older threads for this so thought I'd start up a new one.

What hair and beauty treatments do you pay for to get done professionally, and what do you do yourself? Total cost? And how old are you?

I'm 30.
I think I'm fairly minimal really but thinking of ramping it up now that I'm getting into my 30s.

Currently get my hair cut professionally, no colour. Considering colour but don't want the hassle/cost of the upkeep.
And I've had teeth whitening at the dentist in the past, which I will top up shortly.
And I think that's it when it comes to paying for professional treatments!

Nails I just keep short and paint myself. But considering pedicures.
I do sometimes use fake tan in the summer and I think I'm pretty good at doing it myself, although I am tempted to just go for a spray tan now.
I don't get botox/filler etc, and don't think I ever will (but ask me again in 5 years haha).

Considered eyelash extensions in the past but don't think I'd like the cost/time of the upkeep.

I like to think my hair/beauty regime is fairly low cost. I'm really only paying for a £35 wet cut once every few months.

Salon:
Haircut/ colour
Facials occasionally
Manicure/ pedicure occasionally
Botox
Microblading
I like the occasional spa day as well.

At home:
LED mask
Packet masks
Eyebrow/ eyelash tint
Fake tan when I can be arsed
Shaving instead of waxing
Root spray for greys to stretch out time between hair appointments
Nails - again when I can be bothered.

I'm not at all high maintenance. I like looking after my skin but do 95% of that at home with retinols/acids etc.

Fabpinky · 10/05/2022 12:49

"I'm not at all high maintenance."

Having listed all that, what would you consider to be high maintenance?

sqirrelfriends · 10/05/2022 14:02

I get my hair cut professionally but only 3 or 4 times a year as it's long.

At home I do:
Facials/masks
Lash tints
Manicure/ pedicure
Hair bleach/lightening
Eyebrows
IPL

hihellohihello · 10/05/2022 14:08

Do all beauty at home:

Cut own hair
Colour own hair grey to blonde (with a tea I make up)
Own skincare
Pluck own eyebrows / chin hair
Shave body hair
Do own manicures and pedicures

Racingadmin · 10/05/2022 15:08

I'm incredibly cack-handed and can't even successfully paint my toes so salon for everything but super cheap as done by students at local tech college . Prices are their full price but generally there is a bogof or up to 70% off . Treatments are usually very good but do take much longer than in salon

Hair - wellaplex treatment £15, cut and blow dry £8.
When I was dying it a t section of foils was only £22
Half leg wax £8
Lash and brow tint £6
Paraffin wax pedi or mani £14
Paraffin wax facial £15
Hot stone massage £20
Full body Swedish massage £20

The only thing that I go elsewhere for are my acrylic nails with shellac polish

tinydancer88 · 10/05/2022 15:39

Professional job:
Hair - cut and colour every 6 or so weeks, £90
Eyebrows - threaded every 6 weeks, £10
Gel manicure/pedicure - probably once every 3 months or so, £50 for both
Facial once or twice a year, and the odd spa day
Thinking of getting Invisalign

Home:
Fake tan once a week or so
Daily skin care routine (using Elemis/Murad freebies from a friend with the odd bit of Aldi night cream thrown in!)
I do my nails myself most of the time
Shaving/hair removal cream

In the grand scheme of things I don't think I'm high maintenance, but most of my friends do their nails/eyebrows themselves so maybe I am more than some.

I haven't had Botox/fillers or any other non surgical tweaks but wouldn't rule it out in the future.

BellaTelly · 10/05/2022 15:40

Only thing I get done professionally is hair cut

I did get teeth whitening gel / trays from dentist but it didn’t make any difference!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 10/05/2022 15:51

Hair cut every five weeks
Eyebrows waxed every three weeks

At home I do:

Weekly pedicure
paint nails twice a week
hair removal (shaving)
lash/brow tinting
self tan rarely

(WHY doesn’t it default to a capital with a new line now???)

Fairislefandango · 10/05/2022 16:03

I get my hair cut professionally and a few highlights twice a year. I don't have anything else done.

At home I occasionally tidy my eyebrows up with tweezers, paint my toenails maybe twice over the summer, my fingernails maybe once a year. That's it!

I have never had botox or fillers or gel nails done and never would.

Fairislefandango · 10/05/2022 16:04

Oh - forgot to say age. I'm 50. My list has hasn't changed with age though.

MajesticElephant · 10/05/2022 16:05

I’m early 30s and get my hair cut every 6-8 weeks as I like it short. I pluck my own eyebrows and shave my legs/pits in the summer but that’s it. I did have to laugh at the PP who said they weren’t high maintenance but had a giant list of treatments! I’m quite active and wear glasses so faffing with makeup and false lashes like most of my friends doesn’t bother me as I’ll sweat it off.

concretopedia · 10/05/2022 16:10

I'm 28. I do the following at home:

  • Dye hair
  • Trim hair
  • SNS (dipping powder) nails
  • Dye lashes and brows
  • Lash lifts
  • IPL hair removal
  • LED face mask
  • Skincare routine with prescription retinol

I only go elsewhere for bleach balayage about once every 18 months. I've also had micro blading in the past but don't know if I will again.

user1471523870 · 10/05/2022 16:16

I am mid 40s.
Professionally done:

  • hair cut

  • bikini/underarm wax

  • lash lift

  • gel nails before going on holiday

At home:

  • hair dye

  • epilator on legs

  • fake tan

  • scrubs/masks/peels

  • standard nails for every day wear!

  • teeth whitening with strips

Innocenta · 10/05/2022 16:27

Early thirties. I used to get some waxing and facials before the pandemic, bur nothing since.

At home I do:
Cutting my own hair (+ any treatments, glosses etc)
Shape and paint nails
Pedicure
All skincare (sheet masks, etc)
Pluck and tint brows
Revitalash
Body hair removal

It's all a lot less regular than it sounds, as I'm dealing with masses of health issues. So just doing what I can.

OperationMincemeat · 10/05/2022 16:45
  1. Get hair cut in the salon every 3 months but nothing else. Colour my roots at home, cut my nails short, shave my legs. No Botox or tanning or skin treatments or fillers.

I think I am super low maintenance but prob look a fright. Don't care that much. Would always rather spend on other things.

inmyslippers · 10/05/2022 16:50

Home

Face masks
Box dye

Salon
Microblading
Lip blush
Chemical peels
Micro needling
Fillers/Botox
Massages
Acrylic nails
Gel toes

"I'm not at all high maintenance."

Having listed all that, what would you consider to be high maintenance?

I don't consider having something pleasurable done every 3 months to be high maintenance, personally.

These threads always descend into a Four Yorkshiremen race to the bottom "Hole in the road?? I used to live in a shoebox!" sanctimonious virtue signalling.

OperationMincemeat · 10/05/2022 17:06

I mean, she asked. Not getting Botox isn't virtue signalling. It's just not getting Botox!

Sunnysideup999 · 10/05/2022 17:25

Hair colour every 8 weeks at salon. Cut every 5 months at salon.
pedicure every 2 months at salon
nails at home (hate manicures !)
fake tan at home occasionally
eyebrow tint at home every 8 weeks
shave Legs and arm outs at home

the manicure and leg waxing and eyebrow tint I used to do at a salon pre covid but now I realised what a waste of time and money it all was.

early 40s. Thinking about Botox on crows feet and frown lines -

OnceAgainWithFeeling · 10/05/2022 17:33

Salon:
Baby botox (every 5-6 months)
Hair cut (every 4 months)
Gel toes (every now and again)

Home:
Foils - hairdresser (every 3 months)

Self:
Bright pink hair dye (every 3 months after foils and as needed in between)
Root touch up (every 6 weeks)
Lash lift (monthly)
Brow tidy up and dye (monthly)

imnotwhoyouthinkiam · 10/05/2022 17:37

I'm 37 and I don't get anything done professionally.

Either DS or my mum cut my hair. I dye it myself when i fancy a change in colour. I paint my own nails and shave/epilate my legs.

I also moisturise my face 2x per day but just cheap stuff. Nothing fancy.

I'm very low maintenance Grin it probably shows
