Wedding guest - acceptable?

Is this dress acceptable for a wedding? Non-religious, full day and night invite.

Bit worried it is too booby, sister says no, mum says yes

I think it’s lovely but I’m never keen on black to a wedding personally

DirectionToPerfection · 26/04/2022 18:47

Absolutely fine for a wedding and looks great on you.

dotmckee · 26/04/2022 19:25

Thanks everyone, some lovely comments. Will have a think about whether to get a camisole.

For those who asked this is the dress: hopeandivy.co.uk/products/the-genevieve

I think it looks perfect on you. I would get a cream handbag or something to lighten the look up a bit

Cazziebo · 26/04/2022 19:35

You look stunning in that dress. Perfect for a full wedding. Have a lovely time.

NashvilleQueen · 26/04/2022 19:37

I love it on you. Also love the website. It's a big birthday for me soon and I think I might treat myself to something from there. So thanks!

toastfiend · 26/04/2022 19:38

It's beautiful and really suits you - definitely wear it! I wouldn't wear a camisole under it, I never think camisoles under lower cut dresses look "right" and I don't think it's too booby by any means.

purplecorkheart · 26/04/2022 19:39

Lovely dress, it really suits you. I don't think it is too low in the chest but of it makes you feel more comfortable you could get something like this www.secretfashionfixes.ie/p/modesty-panel-lace/p-modestylace

FitnessFad · 26/04/2022 19:43

It looks amazing!

Don't wear a vest top or a modesty panel underneath it though - doing this ALWAYS spoils the look of the dress and makes it start to look frumpy. I appreciate they are needed sometimes, but if you can get away without one (which you can!) then it will look 100% better.

Hope90x · 26/04/2022 19:47

Not wearing this dress is NOT an option. Your figure looks amazing in it.
As PP have said, wear a bralette/lace crop top underneath if you feel self conscious about the boob area but personally I think as you're not "spilling out" it's totally fine

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 26/04/2022 20:26

It looks really lovely. My wedding dress was a bit booby lol

Cassavaflower · 26/04/2022 21:16

You look better than the model in it!

JennysWell · 26/04/2022 21:38

Dress looks amazing, is there any bra that would work with it? I would love this dress, but boobs too big for braless

dotmckee · 26/04/2022 22:23

@JennysWell oh yeah i couldnt do braless either at 34DD - I am wearing a bra underneath it, unfortunately the only bra I could find that is low enough at front and back (had quite a deep v at the back too) is a wonderbra one, hence more cleavage than I am used to!

@Cassavaflower oh bless you, that is very kind of you to say!

It’s a lovely dress! I’m a similar bra size and would absolutely wear a black vest top underneath-I prefer things to look more classic than having the risk of boobs hanging out!

TolkiensFallow · 26/04/2022 22:28

It’s great for a wedding and you lol fab.

only you know if it’s too booby for you…it would be for me personally but if you feel confident then it’s fine.

if it’s a church wedding then I think you should wear a blazer or cover up of some description as I think it’s too booby for church

supermodel · 26/04/2022 22:30

It’s lovely and perfect for a wedding.

christmascrazylady · 26/04/2022 22:32

Love it. Looks comfortable but dressy

dotmckee · 26/04/2022 22:37

@Shinyandnew1 It is actually a not too dark blue, I think the lighting is making it look darker than it is - I personally wouldn't wear black to a wedding. Which makes trying to find a camisole to match a little more challenging.

@TolkiensFallow good point - not a church wedding and a non-traditional couple. I have got a cream pashmina that I could wear over it

Ooh, I have that dress. It looks better on you, tbh!

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 26/04/2022 22:57

By the way, I've worn it both boobs akimbo (boyfriend was cheered by this) and with a cami top. Tried it with a straight across vest and that looked weird but with a sweetheart necked lace trimmed vest it looked nice (M&S cashmere vest with lace trim in navy).

MrsSkylerWhite · 26/04/2022 23:00

If that’s you, absolutely fine, it’s pretty discrete.

dotmckee · 26/04/2022 23:07

@ElizabethinherGermanGarden oh i am sure that is not true!

Nice to hear from someone who has the same dress and has tried both options! My husband unsurprisingly loves the wonderbra version lol. Do you have the link to the vest you tried?

My husband has just found a pic of the bride at our wedding and she had a lowcut dress on (a pretty and appropriate dress) which makes me feel more comfortable showing cleavage at her wedding

It's stunning!!! Mums always think things are too booby when there past a certain age 😂

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 26/04/2022 23:37

They don't seem to have the same vest in stock (it was winter when I bought it) but it was similar to this one.

https://www.marksandspencer.com/modal-rich-v-neck-sleeveless-vest-top/p/clp22535782?intid=mobileappppdpshare

I pulled it down and tucked it into my tights so it was only a tiny trim off the bottom of the v-neck.

I do think it looked better with no vest but I was quite boob-conscious and was more comfortable on the day with the vest.
