Because honestly I'm kind of excited they're back and want some.

But.

Will I just look naff?

Was thinking with a tucked in white t shirt and converse?

I've probably never stopped wearing them as they totally suit my shape and style. I love them!

Stumpedasatree · 17/04/2022 11:48

I have to recommend these lovely cargos I bought on reading this thread. Incredibly flattering and comfortable, all cotton, and ideal for holidays and travelling. From Superdry

PinkTonic · 17/04/2022 13:52

I’ve bought a couple of pairs from Me & Em in the past few months, both lovely, didn’t know I was ahead of the game.

Nomorefuckstogive · 17/04/2022 20:34

I like them with trainers, clogs or heels, a white T shirt and blazer.

EvelynBeatrice · 19/04/2022 17:35

Just got a dark grey pair from Mint velvet. Live them. Comfy and flattering.

EvelynBeatrice · 19/04/2022 17:38

... and I'm certainly over 20! Mine are subtly combat - but jeans style. Can't link but type of thing Mint V do well

Jack80 · 19/04/2022 21:45

Just bought our youngest 14 a black pair for a funeral she wore with black boots and a black bodysuit. They were formal enough but you could wear with converse for a non formal occasion they were just long so I had to take them up for her.

WhyTheWhales · 19/04/2022 21:58

I probably won't! Sadly.

I did love them back in the day, but I just can't imagine being able to pull them off now... but then I said that about bootcut jeans and I now have a pair of those which I wear quite a lot

CosmopolitanPlease · 21/04/2022 13:11

I lived in them around y2k and have been looking at getting some recently but I can't find any without cuffed bottoms now. Cropped length even worse. Grr I wish I'd kept the ones I had as they were all amazing. They had high waists which somehow made my stomach look flat and my bum look nice - especially with back pockets. I think mine were all from New Look and Select and mostly khaki, although I also had a fabulous pair of bright orange ones. I wore mine with havaianas, adidas all stars or caterpillar-style boots.

Lookingoutside · 21/04/2022 14:58

Are they back? I absolute loved my cargo pants back in the day.

Mine were navy blue, from the army stores in town and I wore them with my Morgan racer back crop top.

I DREAMED of owning a pair of Maharishis.

Emmelina · 21/04/2022 20:49

ASOS has some very like what I wore back in the day for under £30 (they have other colours too) www.asos.com/stradivarius/stradivarius-str-straight-leg-cargo-trouser-in-khaki/prd/202161883?ctaref=we+recommend+grid_2&featureref1=we+recommend+pers

CraftyCleopatra · 21/04/2022 21:15

Good call! Although low rise waists…how I wish I could wear those still

GellerYeller · 21/04/2022 23:16

Once took DH into Urban outfitters with the kids on Oxford Street. Hours of fun picking up stuff and loudly saying it was the same as we'd worn in our younger days! They were mortified. Sorry kids 😊

CosmopolitanPlease · 22/04/2022 09:10

Thanks @Emmelina I've just ordered a pair from ASOS - not the exact pair you linked as they didn't have my size but were suggested as an alternative. They are low waist but I got excited and panic bought 😂 Fingers crossed!

Prettypussy · 22/04/2022 09:50

DD age 16 has been into these for about the last 12 months. She got hers from H&M- they are not the 'transitioning to current fashion' jogger ones though- they are true 90s style with low waste and a wide leg and long not ankle length in khaki.

But when did they become called 'cargo trousers' as opposed to combat pants?

cannaethink · 22/04/2022 18:53

I bought those ones @CosmopolitanPlease
dont worry, they’re not really low! I’d say more mid waist.
I’m returning them though as they’re not a good fit on me unfortunately.

CosmopolitanPlease · 23/04/2022 07:15

Thanks @cannaethink that's reassuring! I don't usually buy from asos so I have no idea of sizing or quality but I was lured in by their free returns 😆

artisanbread · 23/04/2022 08:49

Are they back in? Excellent. I've been keeping a couple of pairs in the wardrobe for years in the hope they would finally be in style again. Although I was still wearing them long after their use-by date last time.

fishingforflies · 24/04/2022 08:34

Shit! They are back and I've still got my favourites in the wardrobe waiting for this day.....unfortunately I'm way too fat for them Envy
Attached is how I want to wear them, need to somehow get my waist back!

@cannaethink were the ASOS cargo trousers really long? The model on the website is apparently 5 ft8 which makes me think they are going to drag along the floor on me (5ft 5). Thanks!

cannaethink · 25/04/2022 14:21

@ABlindAssassin Yes they’re quite long! I’m 5’8 but they were too long on me. I would’ve taken them up a bit if I’d kept them.

CosmopolitanPlease · 30/04/2022 08:05

Update: my ASOS cargos arrived and I love them! I followed the size guide and they're perfect. I'm 5'6 and they are long on me but that's how I like them - perfect with trainers although if I was going to wear them with flip flops or similar they would be dragging on the floor.
