I feel ugly and old and frumpy [sulk]

FrannyandZooey · 07/01/2008 14:21

and I look like shit

I am 14 weeks pg and just look fat not curvaceous

I have a cold and my nose is all red and my skin is all grey

my hair needs cutting and I can't afford to get it done - plus I was cautious in the first trimester and didn't get it coloured so I have crappy roots

none of my nice clothes fit and the ones that do are frumpy and unflattering

I don't know what anyone can do as I can't afford to buy new stuff or get hair done right now so will just have to put up with it, but I am hoping this will be cathartic at least

and as for why I care about looking minging, it is a confidence thing

i find it quite hard to interact with people (and I have to do this a lot, even perform really, for my work) if I am feeling unconfident

I do see what you are saying and that is fine, but I would find it very hard myself

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 07/01/2008 15:03

yes I knew that REALLY

ahundredtimes · 07/01/2008 15:06

Yeah fair point. I would too actually. [vain]

Okay so you can't be the ugly rented house, and your nails are already done.

erm.

oh I know -

It's just a phase Franny.

Dropdeadfred · 07/01/2008 15:08

F&Z, the confidence thing is what makes all us women spend £000's on beauty products, hair dye, cellulite creams, make up etc etc

Go and get a hot flannel...place ver face for a while and relax, then rub over cheeks and forhead and chin vigourously but not too hard.Splash face ith cold water and hen dry slick on a touch of moisturiser and vaseleine or lipbalm on lips.

Voila! You ahve gloing complexion and no dry dead skin cells on face making you look grey!!

SheikYerbouti · 07/01/2008 15:08

I didn;t bloom in either preganacy. I had spots, greasy hair and I looked like a siade of a house. I feel your pain

Now I am not preganat, I look spotty, have greasy hair and like the side of a house.

I am one of those woamn god sent to make up the numbers.

FrannyandZooey · 07/01/2008 15:10

ah fred, I don't spend much on this stuff you know, I just need the basics like decent hair and clothes

I like your tip about the flannel, think I will have to wait until this cold goes to get the glowing complexion, at moment my nose is glowing by itself

Dropdeadfred · 07/01/2008 15:13

Well F&Z, you are more confident (and attractive) tahn you think if you haven't fallen into the trap that is my hobby...buying new skin creams and makeup all the time and then realising that I mostly look my best straight out of the shower with fresh clean skin!

FrannyandZooey · 07/01/2008 15:16

I am too lazy to put the creams on, plus I think there is not much hope left for my skin

I am trying to concentrate on the bits that are worth saving

OP posts:
SheikYerbouti · 07/01/2008 15:27

At least ypu have bits worth saving

FrannyandZooey · 07/01/2008 15:27

yes let me just identify them and we will be away

I go to the local college for my hair, as it is amazingly cheaper than a hairdressers. They take longer than normal because they are taking care and they always have a lecturer on hand.
I am going next week to have even more wild colours put in my hair.
I would suggest you put your colour back to your natural temporarily, maybe with some lo or highlights I to give it a bit of Pazzaz, but leaving it easy to keep up with, and a good cut.
Also if your college has a hairdressers they may have a beauty salon, and that is bliss. I would recommend a full facial, a pedicure and maybe a leg wax, regularly. You may not see the results past a big bump, but you will know that you have been pampered and feel like a million dollers. Without the beauty salon bill.

SheikYerbouti · 07/01/2008 15:31

Well, I have been told the bit behind my eras is nice, shame the rest of me's minging

But it's a start, eh?

I bwet you look lovely

PrismManchip · 07/01/2008 15:31

You need a HAT

PrismManchip · 07/01/2008 15:32

THis is Pruni btw

MrsBadger · 07/01/2008 15:32

2 x olive green, 1 x rusty red/brown longsleeves
1 x brown vest

rest are either unsuitably summery, pale or patterend as I was trying to make my top look larger compared to my huge arse

FrannyandZooey · 07/01/2008 15:36

Pruni do NOT knit me a hat, please

MrsB I think we must be body shape opposites

maybe the red one? will you let me buy it please?

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 07/01/2008 15:37

although...

Pruni you know the mooncup cosy you knitted me

do you think it w0uld be cool to have a matching hat, in the same colours and shape?

HonoriaGlossop · 07/01/2008 15:37

Don't judge anything while you still have the cold. There is nothing that makes you feel so bad as walking around breathing through your mouth and feeling ill; I always feel like I look mentally challenged, not to mention gaining a sudden, oh so flattering double chin.....

Just turn all mirrors to the wall till you feel better from the cold

I can only offer sympathy, I felt exactly the same as you when I was at this stage of pregnancy and once even embarrassed myself by actually bursting into tears in the High Street having caught sight of myself in a shop window.

PrismManchip · 07/01/2008 15:38

With the brown ribbon, Franny?
I am seeing a cloche with a jaunty elfin point at the crown

FrannyandZooey · 07/01/2008 15:40

oh lord Honoria

I don't think I have ever cried about my looks, I am used to it now

Pruni yes but you do know I WAS JOKING, don't you?

OP posts:
HonoriaGlossop · 07/01/2008 15:41

I can only imagine that it's not quite as bad as all that then Franny - if it's not crying-in-the-high-st-bad, then it's a lightweight problem

Swedes2Turnips1 · 07/01/2008 15:42

I am with Pruni. A hat, a new moisturiser and an order of Amber & Lavender bath oil and body creme from Jo Malone. Clothes are so 2007 in any case.
Congratulations btw.

HonoriaGlossop · 07/01/2008 15:52

I think in order to defend myself I ought to say that the high st incident was very SUBTLE tears, DH was with me and I managed to hide myself behind his rather tall frame

I'm not as mad as all that

FrannyandZooey · 07/01/2008 15:55

no if I had been a looker then ended up like this I think I would cry

you are excused

wombling · 07/01/2008 16:08
