I feel ugly and old and frumpy [sulk]

FrannyandZooey · 07/01/2008 14:21

and I look like shit

I am 14 weeks pg and just look fat not curvaceous

I have a cold and my nose is all red and my skin is all grey

my hair needs cutting and I can't afford to get it done - plus I was cautious in the first trimester and didn't get it coloured so I have crappy roots

none of my nice clothes fit and the ones that do are frumpy and unflattering

I don't know what anyone can do as I can't afford to buy new stuff or get hair done right now so will just have to put up with it, but I am hoping this will be cathartic at least

lol Franny, I'm not being mean about myself, just a jetlagged honesty - that's what I see in the mirror at the moment (following an overnight flight).

It's a phase...obviously, to quote mrsbadger.

FrannyandZooey · 07/01/2008 14:39

btw did not mean to start thread so people would feel sorry for me and offer me stuff

bloody kind MN vipers hussies

FrannyandZooey · 07/01/2008 14:40

ah cod we must have had this before

i don't like my top half, it's out of proportion

I wore all black all over till about 5 years ago so I am actually doing quite well now. I wear things like purple and green and blue and stuff on the bottom half sometimes

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 07/01/2008 14:40

ah unknown, another phase

that's alright then

OP posts:
dinny · 07/01/2008 14:41

oooh, congrats, F&Z (on pg, not like feeling frumpy

you'll be blooming soon, fear not!

FrannyandZooey · 07/01/2008 14:42

when when WHEN dinny?

nope, not yet

OP posts:
Cappuccino · 07/01/2008 14:44

you are pregnant you big numpty how can that not be a phase?

unless you are medical freakoid

I seem to remember when pg just buying loads of make-up and deciding that as I had no control below the neck, I was going to have a fantastic head

Cappuccino · 07/01/2008 14:45

I didn't bloom either

it is all a sham

and anyway if you get the luscious hair it all falls out when you have had the baby and then you are hormonally disturbed and balding

ahundredtimes · 07/01/2008 14:45

Definitely just a phase. Keep telling yourself this. In the meantime get your nails done. Like properly, in a nail bar. A french manicure.

[btw, I have NEVER got my nails done. Ahem. But now I think you should. I might you know, I might get dramatic nails to go with my hair.]

FrannyandZooey · 07/01/2008 14:46

i may carry on looking old and ugly and frumpy after the baby is born, though

i am going to be tireder and fatter and OLDER than I am now, so it seems a reasonable conclusion to me

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 07/01/2008 14:47

I like having my nails done but the chemical smell makes me want to heave most of the time

I would have to do it hanging out of the window with my hands draped inside the room

OP posts:
ahundredtimes · 07/01/2008 14:47

But with a manicure.

This will make the essential difference.

Cappuccino · 07/01/2008 14:47

hmm yes Franny you may well look awful

but at least you will be able to dye your hair

FrannyandZooey · 07/01/2008 14:48

ok admittedly looking on the bright side my nails are fab atm

it is all the cheese I expect

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 07/01/2008 14:48

no hair dying when tiny baby bfing

nonono

OP posts:
ahundredtimes · 07/01/2008 14:48

Okay - do that then.

Go and do something lovely too. Something with fresh air and large green apples, then get your hair done, then erm, eat the apple.

Bingo.

You'll feel fabulous.

FrannyandZooey · 07/01/2008 14:50

[sceptical]

I am still sad about that fab taffeta skirt I was too fat for as well

2008 is not going to be my Year of Style is it

OP posts:
ahundredtimes · 07/01/2008 14:50

I meant apples not hair.

No. I've got a better idea. Embrace it. Embrace the lack of need to dress well and look good. Be fat and frumpy and happy.

How about that? We rented a really ugly house once, and it was such a relief just living in the ugliness and not feeling as though I had to make it beautiful.

You too can be that weird ugly rented house.

I am going to check now. Though of course you may be emailing Franny with hot fashion tips, and I will just sit look forlornly at my in box.

FrannyandZooey · 07/01/2008 14:58

oh cod I have bad news on tights front

sorry, they were out of the right size when I went back

I shall email b

OP posts:
Cappuccino · 07/01/2008 14:58

what is wrong with your hair underneath?

I ask this because I am ill (yes let me go on about that again for a while) and haven't had mine cut for 4 or 5 months, and to start with it was 'eww my dreadful hair' and then it became 'ooh look I am growing my hair perhaps it will be nice' and it does not matter if anyone sees because later I will burst into the world a different woman

same with the awful eyebrows a woman gave me before Chrsitmas I am growing them out, looking like a gorilla, and not a care in the world

it is sometimes quite liberating giving up on things for a bit

I cut my nails off whenever they grow too long too; I don't file them or anything

and I wear lounging trousers and pyjamas constantly

FrannyandZooey · 07/01/2008 14:59

my hair underneath? that's a rather personal question, I hadn't got so far as to complain about that

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 07/01/2008 15:01

erm I think it is because of the roots thing

if it was all one colour it would be ok, if a bit dull

erm I find it hard to give up on trying to look nice because I look so blatantly minging if I don't try

I can get away with looking half decent if I put some effort in

OP posts:
Cappuccino · 07/01/2008 15:01

no I meant your roots (oh dear me)

I meant if your natural colour is okay you could grow it out

unless your natural colour is olive green or something
