Nightmare bikini line

I'm looking for solidarity, sympathy and solutions.

From a teen I was 'blessed' with an excessive amount or pubic hair. I have never managed a solution.

Shaving- get regrowth within 12 hours and gets very spikey/itchy.
Sugaring/waxing- only lasts 4 days before regrowth and then get 2 weeks of ingrowing hair annoyance so hardly seems worth the effort.
Creams- as above, only a few days of smoothness.

So on holiday I only ever get to wear a normal swimsuit for 4 days before I go back to boy shorts or a leg suit.

I'm now 48 and the bikini line reaches 5 inches down my thighs. Also really hairy between my bum cheeks and have no idea what to do with this. Also, attractively, half my pubes are grey so I guess I've missed the boat on laser treatment.

Ideally I'm looking for the solution but I fear there isn't one. So please comfort me with your own nightmare bikini line stories so I don't deal so freaky.

I have got some great swim shorts from www.landsend.co.uk. They are really comfy

Flippy87 · 21/03/2022 22:14

Oh me too OP. I’m blonde so can’t get laser or I’d say to do that. Wish I could! I wax, still get painful regrown but better than waxing. I use skin doctors ingrowgo which smells of vinegar but seems to help. Regular exfoliation.

@Nateismine

And what about the hair around my anus- what the hell do people do with that? Why am I so hairySad?
As above - professional wax. Regularly though otherwise it just takes hold again!
Musmerian · 21/03/2022 22:18

I don’t understand why anyone would the hair around their anus. Surely no one sees that? Just leave it all.

LazyDoll · 21/03/2022 22:22

Zuma76 agree with your recommendation. I’ve had a pair for years. Wear various bikini tops with them and they mean no bothering with bikini line and no pulling your briefs out of your bum when you get out the water as they just stay where they are. Might treat myself to another colour!!

TooManyPJs · 21/03/2022 22:22

Get an epilator. I started epilating during the pandemic (I usually sugar) and it's sooooo much better.

After the initial go over, it's super quick. 10 minutes to do both legs and bikini, and you can do it as often as you like as the hair goes through. For me weekly is enough but there's no reason you couldn't do it twice a week.

The bikini area is a bit fiddly to start with but I've got the knack now and it's easy.

I've got a Phillips one. It's very good and not too painful. Don't buy a cheap one.

Erm… speak for yourself! : )
moggerhanger · 21/03/2022 22:27

I bought Bohn swim shorts and top for this very reason. Saves an awful lot of faff (I'm very lazy). Used to wax and Silk-Epil and Immac all the time, but can't really be bothered now. DH doesn't care either.

And under no circumstances would I have depilated my starfish anyway!

@SquirrelFan

... Why are people waxing their bums? Is this a common thing?
God knows. Its not like your bum hair gets anywhere close to your swim suit leg/groin visible bits.
SockFluffInTheBath · 21/03/2022 22:30

I have a lumea (no use on greys) that works wonders on my legs but doesn’t touch my lady garden. I use cream for that, once a week is enough, I don’t go swimming or wear tiny pants so a couple of days of growing back fur is survivable.

Iggly · 21/03/2022 22:33

I shave but the tricky is to slaver thickly with sudocream afterwards and every day. It makes a huge difference to ingrown hairs!

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 21/03/2022 22:36

I've been using an epilator under my arms for 20 years and it still stings like a bastard - who are you nutters who say it doesn't hurt?! I've never been able to do my legs, it hurts way too much.

I'd use a Ladyshave. That's what I currently use on my bikini line, it's not a wet shave, so it doesn't itch growing back and you can do it daily if necessary. It's also completely safe so no risk of trapping a flap or anything!

DirtyDancing · 21/03/2022 22:38

There are now laser that work on blonde and grey hair. New to the market and in salon but they do work on my lighter hairs

crystalize · 21/03/2022 22:41

Laser was the best thing ever. Like a poster upthread i I had it late 40s as saw a really good offer in Manchester and thought why not? I so wish I'd done it sooner! No more waxing, just the odd fine strays that can be shaved every few months. Nothing has grown back in bum lol, that seems to work more than the front bit. There are many offers these days so it shouldn't be extortionate.

SockFluffInTheBath · 21/03/2022 22:44

🤣🤣🤣

Infracat · 21/03/2022 22:49

I tried laser at a salon a few years back. I have very dark hair so they said I was the perfect candidate. Lots of sessions and very expensive and a year later the hair had all grown back. I contacted the salon and they said this can jappen and nothing they could do.

Esspee · 21/03/2022 22:51

I use an epilator. I bought one for about £15 in Lidl just to see if I could cope with the pain and still use it over 10 years later.

The first couple of times I used it I found it extremely painful but that was because there was so much hair being pulled out plus the fear it could get even more painful. In a couple of weeks I realised it was not going to be any worse and I got used to it.

Mariposista · 21/03/2022 23:01

What about laser hair removal. If the hair is thick and/or dark it should work really well. It requires a few sessions but then it's permanent

MoFro · 21/03/2022 23:01

Laser! Works a treat

Ohyesiam · 21/03/2022 23:08

I had IPL on a groupon deal about 12 years ago and the fuzz from hell was tamed. It’s such a relief.
Bum remains woolly but I don’t wear a thong so that’s ok with me.

cardiologist349275 · 21/03/2022 23:10

Fellow hairy Mary here.

I have IPLed mine which has lessened it somewhat. I did find it a lot more painful the wirier the hair I was doing it on.

I haven't IPLed it for about a year now, so now my routine is that I have a good soak in the bath, lather it all up really well down there, right round the front and back, and shave it all off with a nice, new, sharp disposible razor, pressing quite hard to get it really smooth.

I try to do that on as many days as I can, as if you do it every day you won't get the itchy regrowth probs so much.

But on days I don't manage it it I just give it a once over with a Remington ladyshave. That doesn't get it perfectly smooth but keeps it at bay.

The pesky hairs round the back entrance are slower to grow back in my experience.

Any itching or bumps can be soothed with a good layer of sudocreme.

I did the full bush thing for over twenty years and now I know how good being clean shaven feels I'd NEVER go back.

Go on, girl!

Porn stars have no hair. Women apparently must be bare. We have to bleach our hailess bumholes too . It's just so bloody time consuming. If you look at 'naughty' pictures of women in the 1920s they a had full bushes and they were considered sexy as hell.
Thewindwhispers · 21/03/2022 23:32

The front I shave / wear a swimsuit with swimshorts. The backside I have abandoned to its hairy fate. Just be glad you don’t have a beard eh - I’m getting there!

Btw be aware that if you have hair growth caused by a hormone imbalance, laser hair removal will stimulate other hair follicles and trigger more dark hair to grow. Yep. This is why women with PCOS shouldn’t use laser hair removal (although electrolysis is fine).

Personal choice, surely?

@Thewindwhispers Is laser the same as IPL? I have Pcos and need to remove some stomach hair. Blush I was thinking of getting a Lumea, but won’t if it will cause me more hairy grief.
