Nightmare bikini line

Nateismine · 21/03/2022 13:17

I'm looking for solidarity, sympathy and solutions.

From a teen I was 'blessed' with an excessive amount or pubic hair. I have never managed a solution.

Shaving- get regrowth within 12 hours and gets very spikey/itchy.
Sugaring/waxing- only lasts 4 days before regrowth and then get 2 weeks of ingrowing hair annoyance so hardly seems worth the effort.
Creams- as above, only a few days of smoothness.

So on holiday I only ever get to wear a normal swimsuit for 4 days before I go back to boy shorts or a leg suit.

I'm now 48 and the bikini line reaches 5 inches down my thighs. Also really hairy between my bum cheeks and have no idea what to do with this. Also, attractively, half my pubes are grey so I guess I've missed the boat on laser treatment.

Ideally I'm looking for the solution but I fear there isn't one. So please comfort me with your own nightmare bikini line stories so I don't deal so freaky.

I’m too lazy to do any more than vaguely tidy up but I find there the key to combatting ingrowing hairs is to exfoliate (I use whatever scrub I’m using on the rest of my body). You’d probably risk thrush if fully dehaired but it works a treat on the bikini margins.

FlakyFishermansPie · 22/03/2022 05:52

@DirtyDancing

There are now laser that work on blonde and grey hair. New to the market and in salon but they do work on my lighter hairs
Really? Would be very interested to know about lasers that can tackle grey/blonde. Which brand(s) are on the market? Do you have personal experience of them?
Loopytiles · 22/03/2022 05:57

Don’t think hair removal cream leads to ingrowing hairs?

Loopytiles · 22/03/2022 05:57

So could trim v short and use that regularly.

Goatinthegarden · 22/03/2022 06:06

I have thick dark hair and I like to get rid of it all. I know it isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I’m very sporty and always in and out of the shower, so just find it more manageable gone. I used to use an epilator which hurt at first, but then is very manageable after one or two goes.

I now use a Philips Lumea which has been genuinely life changing. Nothing grows. I didn’t think it might stop working when I turn grey, but I guess I’ll cross that bridge later.

Laser hair removal. Pricey but it will solve the problem for the rest of your life

Hi @Nateismine, just popped on to give some solidarity. I have been battling my body hair since I was in primary school. I usually get waxed but my lady has just closed her business so I need to either find somewhere else or do something different. I totally sympathise with you. Even waxing is only good on me for a few days then it's the itchy phase. I love swimming but only have a window of a few days per month to do it without being embarrassed about hairs or spotty stubble. I do have a lumea which worked wonders on the strip between my belly button and bush. Might try to use it on my legs but it's so time consuming. Intrigued by getting laser in a salon. My arse crack is so hairy and I know you have to shave first and not sure I am confident with that! Also, do they literally pull your bum cheeks apart to zap you? I can't see any other way!

refreshingseahorse · 22/03/2022 10:25

I went over to board shorts which are a liberating revelation as far as swimwear goes.

Much respect to the underarm epilating ladies on here, I can do legs and outer bikini zone but underarms is way outside of my ability to endure pain.

I spent about £1600 on 6 sessions of laser all over (bikini, legs, underarms, even nipples!). It did very little. I had researched and made sure they were the best machines, a reputable salon etc. Then I got a Philips Lumea IPL and it was life changing. I know ILP and laser are different (not an expert) but worth knowing I had completely a different experience with each of them.
blitzen · 22/03/2022 13:26

Thanks, @loopycurtains. It's a shame your laser experience wasn't a success and after spending all that dough too. Will start doing my lumea on my bikini line I think, and see if it's as successful as it was on my belly. Just wish they had a bigger spread area!

MrsPetty · 22/03/2022 17:55

Lady shave. I used to wax but having had to have several ingrown hairs lanced about my lady garden I gave it up in doctors recommendation.

MrBoldwood · 22/03/2022 17:58

Shave. It’s the only way. Shave and trim.

KristinaYang · 22/03/2022 18:03

Go get it properly lasered, at a clinic. They will do the in between areas too, and the greys will be less strong so if they don’t work with laser (tho they might if the roots are strong) then wax them vigourously. I have zero hair after being a gorilla for many a year

Dizzybet74 · 22/03/2022 19:11

This sounds like me and I went down the laser treatment route - just top part of legs and bikini line. Omg it's life-changing. I had 8 sessions I think and it hasn't all gone so I'll have to shave the odd hair every once in a while and then on holiday but it's something I wish I'd done years ago. It's not cheap but then I've spent a fortune on creams over the years. I did have a bikini wax once and never again, it made me bleed!

Honestly, I'm just so relieved I finally found something that works that I don't care about the wasted money on laser. I'm a hairy beast all over and use the lumea on legs (all over), bikini (full Hollywood, including the forest that grew halfway down my thighs), arse crack (and yes, I shave first... carefully), underarms, nipples and that inverted V between my belly button and bikini line. For me, it hasn't taken anyway all the hair. But what is left is so light, fine and slow growing that it is not an issue. Not after a lifetime of what went before!
loopycurtains · 22/03/2022 21:02

Probably should have name changed for that post Grin

MrsBa · 22/03/2022 22:21

I've not worn shorts or short skirts since I was a young teen, I have thick black hairs on the backs of my upper legs ,I get covered in shaving rashes and can't reach easily
for other methods of removal. I went to a salon to try waxing, but reacted very badly to a test on my ankle -bleeding and scabbed over for ages so they refused to treat me. I'm almost glad I don't like water so don't need to wear swim-wear.

Agapornis · 23/03/2022 08:56

Trim, boardshorts, or realise no one cares at the pool/beach.
I don't look at other people's crotches, so I figured they're unlikely to look at mine. That's a recent realisation after years of conditioning by my mother who hates all body hair (and any woman's appearance that is not up to her standard).

ParanoidGynodroid · 23/03/2022 13:50

Agree with a PP : IPL (you can get cheaper models than the lumea) and trimmer for the rest.

loopycurtains · 23/03/2022 14:06

I wish with all my heart I could not give a damn. But I just do. Some of us do. And thus the search for hair-freeness goes on. I found my solution finally at the age of 50, wishing others luck with it.
BusterGonad · 23/03/2022 16:51

For the Lumea users can it be used on pale skin with freckles?

loopycurtains · 23/03/2022 17:08

I've got pale skin with freckles and it's worked brilliantly on me
