Is this ok for a bridesmaid dress?

The bride has said I can choose anything. It’s a church then pub reception in the summer. I’m 36, size 12. Is this dress ok? Too casual? The bride is lovely and would say yes to anything and I want to get this right (and also look nice in the photos!)

It is lovely but makes me think wedding guest rather than bridesmaid.

Sleepeatrepeat · 13/03/2022 08:59

It depends on her style and colour theme I would assume.

Are you the only bridesmaid?

Personally I think it is too casual but it depends on the bride's style etc

mnahmnah · 13/03/2022 09:00

It’s a gorgeous dress!

But it depends if you want to be distinct as a bridesmaid, because it’s very much what a guest might wear. If it doesn’t matter about being seen as the bridesmaid, go for it!

indecisivewoman81 · 13/03/2022 09:00

I like it but I think it's too casual for a bridesmaid and you'd rush a guest turning up in something similar. I think it's the heavy pattern not the style

RogueV · 13/03/2022 09:00

Sorry I don’t think it’s very bridesmaidy
In fact it’s very garish and aging, you can do a lot better for £300+!

PartyPlan · 13/03/2022 09:01

I think it’s a nice dress but isn’t a bridesmaid dress.

Absolutely this, sorry! Very much a garden party/summer fete dress I would think.
MrsTimRiggins · 13/03/2022 09:03

It isn’t to my taste, but I agree, it’s very much a guest dress. Which is fine if you would rather not necessarily ‘stand out’ as a bridesmaid but it is something to consider if not.

MichelleScarn · 13/03/2022 09:04

Is it the pattern you like or the style?

KylieCharlene · 13/03/2022 09:06

That does not look like a £315 dress !
Anyways, it's perfectly fine for a summer picnic or day out but it's in no way suitable for a bridesmaid imo.

CPL593H · 13/03/2022 09:10

Nice dress but too casual, especially for a church wedding. A similar shape but less patterned and full length would be better? Lot depends on what the bride is wearing of course.

Ohyesiam · 13/03/2022 09:10

It depends on what you want. If you like to blend in and are adverse to standing out then this sort of dress is good. You will look like a guest . It does seem very expensive for what it is though.

If you want to look more celebratory I’d go for something much prettier.

Have you looked at Nancy Mac?

MichelleScarn · 13/03/2022 09:12

Something like this if its the style you like?

Thanks so much, that’s so helpful.

Am 36 and the only bridesmaid. I think I’m trying to not look like a bridesmaid because I’m older. Love that dress @MichelleScarn except for the pleats. May get it anyway.

Also glad I’ve not shelled out £300 on something not suitable!

Lovely dress, but I personally think it looks too bridal. And if the bride is wearing white, but the two dresses are different tones of white it will look a bit ugh when you are next to each other.

indecisivewoman81 · 13/03/2022 09:32

Yep a much better dress but maybe not in white as it's a bit bridal. This sort of thing in pale blue, pink or mint green would look lovely

Notarealmum · 13/03/2022 09:33

Yes, that’s very pretty and much more suitable I think.

Thanks! Yes don’t think she would appreciate me looking too bridal!

That dress is beautiful! I would definitely run it past the bride before buying, just in case

Jumpingintomenopause · 13/03/2022 09:49

That’s lovely

Rina66 · 13/03/2022 09:49

Next have a good selection of bridesmaid dresses too.

IamEarthymama · 13/03/2022 09:51

The Maya dress from ASOS is beautiful and you will look lovely.
Being given free rein is exciting but also nerve wracking I should imagine!

(I love looking through Needle and Thread, I never ever wear frills or patterns so it really is pure escapism!)
