Is this ok for a bridesmaid dress?

The bride has said I can choose anything. It’s a church then pub reception in the summer. I’m 36, size 12. Is this dress ok? Too casual? The bride is lovely and would say yes to anything and I want to get this right (and also look nice in the photos!)

The green one is most suitable.

Has she given any indication of colour scheme?

VanCleefArpels · 13/03/2022 09:53

I was going to say Needle & Thread too

Theblacksheepandme · 13/03/2022 10:02

I like this one and as it's not full length it might be more suitable for a pub reception.

The Asos ones are much better OP

Rainbowqueeen · 13/03/2022 10:09

The Maya one is lovely.

Hope you have a brilliant time

Thank you so much all!

I like that one @Theblacksheepandme.

Or the green one you linked to @Kfjsjdbd. I also always love the look of Needle and thread dresses.

Have you looked at Ghost bridesmaid dresses? Lots of colour choice, fairly simple but still striking.

Lovely. Lots of the Ghost ones would fit the bill and be very wearable afterwards, timeless things and easy to dress up or down.

Ugh, no. That's horrible. From what you are saying you're the bride's 'best' friend rather than "bridesmaid' so no need to wear the traditional bridesmaid monstrosity.

Your first choice was ok but you'd get nicer dresses for that price range.

KimikosNightmare · 13/03/2022 11:35

Although from your description of the wedding and pub reception your first choice looks better than the spangly "bridesmaid" options suggested.

maddy68 · 13/03/2022 12:15

It's too casual. I would wear that for work

MrsClatterbuck · 13/03/2022 12:17

@Hadawayman

It is lovely but makes me think wedding guest rather than bridesmaid.
Same here. You don't want a guest rocking up with same outfit?

That is lovely. It looks white in the picture but if it is definitely blue I think it would be lovely. It would not look bridal if it is blue. Maybe the picture isn't true to the reality. Like the green sequin one as well.

This one is lovely
UserRG · 13/03/2022 12:32

That 3rd dress is beautiful!

RogueV · 13/03/2022 15:50

That ghost dress is stunning 😍

BusinessMindThoughts · 13/03/2022 15:57

That Ghost dress is bias cut satin and would amplify every tiny lump or bump (and outline of underwear!) I'm not even the sort of person that cares much about that sort of thing but it'll also get really crumpled!

EyesAsGreenAsAFreshPickledToad · 13/03/2022 16:04

It's hideous, OP. It doesn't look very "bridesmaid-y" either.

ValkyrieVik · 13/03/2022 16:12

You need to get something that isn't a million miles away from what the bride is wearing. So if she's wearing a boho style floaty dress and you turn up in a sequin tutu style it's not going to look right.

The asos one is a lot more bridesmaidy than the one you posted OP which I don't like at all and certainly wouldn't pay £300+ for (sorry!)

Have you looked at chichi London? My bridesmaids dresses were from there and they were gorgeous.
