1990’s perfume

Beyond CK One, what other scents have their origins in the 90’s? I’m off to a 90’s night and would love to complete the look with the right smell (cigarettes and alcohol aside!).

I used to love the limited edition Impulse the Spice Girls brought out too!

duckme · 03/03/2022 23:33

Tommy Girl.
Paco rabane ultra violet.
I love both and have been wearing CK One for the past couple of day.

duckme · 03/03/2022 23:36

@HoneyItIsntGoodLuck

Lots on here, but I spent much of the 90s wearing Givenchy Amarige…
I'd forgotten about that! I used to love it. Im going to have to see if I can still get it.

I can't believe it took so long for anyone to mention Jean Paul Gaultier! Such a 90s icon in the corset bottle. I loved it!

I thought that was more noughties than nineties

@Mouthfulofquiz

I lived Om by Gap. If anyone has a dupe for that I would be so happy!!
I was absolutely obsessed by that perfume. It was gorgeous. Never found anything that smells remotely like it.
Martinisarebetterdirty · 04/03/2022 07:49

JPG was definitely 90s, the posh girls at school wore it Grin

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 04/03/2022 09:56

Nope definitely not, I was definitely wearing it in the 90s. It was popular at the same time as CKOne, which was probably the perfume of the 90s with Kate Moss and Mark Whalberg modelling in the adverts etc.

I guess it perhaps depends upon your age a bit as to what was on your radar when. The adverts in J17 would be quite different from the adverts in Cosmo or Marie Claire.

Geamhradh · 04/03/2022 09:58

My flatmate wore JPG in 1996.

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 04/03/2022 10:02

In the 90s, I mostly wore one of:

Joop
Jean Paul Gaultier
Chanel Allure

Phormiumjester · 04/03/2022 10:17

Yep, jpg tied in with the Madonna tour with the bustier he designed. Perfume came out maybe 93?
Was too sweet for me

Was prob too pricey for me back then 😂

Hugo (Boss) Deep Red. I remember buying it at The Clothes Show live when it first came out. My friend drove us and she had only just her licence. It's was slightly nerve racking. 😂

BusterGonad · 04/03/2022 10:43

Late 90s maybe, probably 00s!

BusterGonad · 04/03/2022 10:44

Ah... 2001! Sorry!

LindaEllen · 04/03/2022 10:59

J'Lo Glo

Seniorandjunior · 04/03/2022 11:04

Such a nostalgic thread! Takes me right back. So many memories and links to places etc.

Most of those mentioned I loved. Rive Gauche in the blu and black bottle was my very first proper perfume. Though I know that's a lot older.
Eternity, CK One, Nina Ricci ones, Sunflowers, Chloe Dune, Paco Rabanne the list goes on.. Chanel Allure was my go-to for quite a while. Does anyone remember Estee Lauder's Knowing?

I wonder if the sense of smell changes with age? I find it impossible to find a perfume I like these days. Has my nose changed? Have perfumes changed?

Martinisarebetterdirty · 04/03/2022 11:10

Perfumes have changed @Seniorandjunior, the old ones had ingredients that are now banned (real musk for example) and so modern ones are more synthetic

Seniorandjunior · 04/03/2022 11:20

Ah! Thank you @Martinisarebetterdirty. I did not know that. I thought my nose had lost sensitivity or something. So they are different! I find it impossible to find a perfume I like these days.

Clothes Show Live was the highlight of my year!
Sabby06 · 04/03/2022 13:47

All about Eve by Joop. I think you can still get it. Loved it . Might get it for the summer...

BusterGonad · 04/03/2022 13:59

I only managed to go 3 times, but each time I loved it. Because of this thread I've been looking at Tommy Girl and Hugo Deep Red. I want both now!

BusterGonad · 04/03/2022 14:00

The quote didn't come up, but that's in response to the chat about The Clothes Show live.

You can still get Knowing. The EU changed the ingredients laws about 20 years ago and many perfumes had to be reformulated. Chypres (generally containing oakmoss) were some of the hardest hit. Don't buy the modern versions of Ysatis, Obsession, Vent Vert, Cabochard etc. Not if you want to be reminded of the original. Opium and Rive Gauche haven't come out too badly though.

Red by Gorgio Beverley Hills

Chanel Allure (still wear!)
