Things I've applied to my face tonight

Cerave Salicylic Acid Smoothing cleanser (2 applications buffed each time with a warm flannel)
Followed by Superdrug's overnight glycolic Acid peel mask and slathered with a thick layer of Astral which I've seen mentioned on here a lot.

I'll look like I've lost at least decade, right? (35 irl)

What have you applied in hopeful anticipation? Brew

Her FB Freaks page is bonkers. Truly bonkers. Well, the Freaks are anyway.
Definitely- I was a member briefly and then ran away,
It's a shame, because about 5-6 years ago, she came onto one of the first fabulous skincare threads, and was genuinely, really, helpful. Then the whole CH "cult" took off and woooooah.

Anyway, my old face is still sore so I'm slopping the nivea blue pot on today. (I'd prefer Astral tbh, but can't get it here)

Louisianagumbo · 20/02/2022 09:37

Last night I used
ELF bounce back jelly cleanser
Hado labo hyaluronic acid
The ordinary buffet
Tretinoin 0.025 on eyelids (improving hooded eyes)
Tretinoin 0.05 on all my wrinkles
Clinique moisture surge supercharged concentrate everywhere else.

PolkaSpace · 20/02/2022 09:40

@Shmithecat2 sorry I have covid brain back to bed for me! That was a recommendation for @cherrytopcake. I appreciate your polite response though!!!

HoliHormonalTigerlilly · 20/02/2022 09:42

@ACCx

For a month or so my skin got really dry and I hasn’t changed moisturiser ect but it just wouldn’t improve. Then someone at work (with great skin) said she uses Asdas own. I thought surely not! But bought some anyway, and I’m so impressed. It is my new go to :)
Asda's own what?

@KatharinaRosalie

So OP, did your face fall off? Grin I love love acids, they made a massive difference to my skin.

I used:
Facetheory Clarifying Cleanser (love this brand, and I'm normally into high end cosmetics, but they have some amazing products).
Retirides retinol from a pharmacy in Spain.
Silly George lash serum

My skin is quite sensitive, so if I use stronger acids than the cleanser, I skip the retinol and use Votary serums or oils instead.

It is looking soft and lovely. My nose is a bit red but otherwise really pleased as when I smile my smile lines don't look as crepey. I feel like an amateur reading this thread but what fun eh, bit like a women's potions club haha.

Hasselhoffsheadband · 20/02/2022 09:57

Cleanse and rinse with Garnier micellar water (I don't wear makeup daily so try to go easy on the cleansing)
Retirides Tretinoin 0.025%
That's it.

On the nights I don't tret:
Cleanse
Hada labo hyaluronic acid straight onto the wet skin
Weleda skin food

I’m glad I’ve stumbled on this thread. In a beauty advent calendar last Christmas I got some votary hyaluronic serum, which I’m really enjoying using - I love how soft it makes my skin feel.

But I’ve not been sure whether I should still use moisturiser after the hyaluronic serum. I wondered if the moisturiser would somehow cancel the serum out or make them both less effective? But is seems posters here are using a hyaluronic serum and then a moisturiser product as well so I think I have my answer!

QuantumHypothesis · 20/02/2022 10:15

Just water last night as I had the ‘stache waxed yesterday. If I add anything I just come up in huge spots on my top lip.

Hyaluronic acid is not a moisturiser, its a hydrator. You need to put an occlusive over the HA to seal it into the skin. Otherwise you risk the HA evaporating and taking the water out of skin wih it.
cherrytopcake · 20/02/2022 10:25
@cherrytopcake

You can use hyaluronic all the time- it doesn't need rotating. It's not an active- the "acid" is a bit of a misnomer, it's just a hydrator. Needs to be applied to damp skin though, or the opposite effect will happen as it needs water to work
Thanks - I know HA is safe to use every day and it's not actually an acid... but because the serum I used is combined with Alpha arbutin (and the HA is the secondary ingredient to the Alpha Arbutin), I don't feel the need to use this daily and therefore prefer to rotate. I also don't want to use just a HA serum as this adds an extra step and I can't be arsed Smile
Guess I could search for a new moisturiser with HA in it though... thanks for the idea!

I love for Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish, Skin Toner & moisturiser cream 🥰

HappydaysArehere · 20/02/2022 10:32

@thistimelastweek

Nothing.

I'm 65. And people tell me I have good skin.

I'm not saying there isn't a place for good skin care. But I do believe less is sometimes more.

Bottom line, just give your face a rest. All those products are just annoying it.

I am 80 and going to say the same. It has occurred to me that make up goes on and more products take it off. It’s good for the commercial market but I wonder about it’s benefits. I have used aqueous cream to wash my face and body for many years. Although my looks have gone people have say I have no wrinkles (also still waiting to go grey). My gran had lovely skin and her answer to how she kept it so was Ponds Cold Cream !!!
VerbenaGirl · 20/02/2022 10:45

Last night now, but I cleansed with good old Liz Earle hot cloth cleanser (although alternate this now with Aldi’s excellent imitation), Aldi collagen toner (not quite so sold on the Aldi toners, but not so much that I won’t finish them, and alternated with Nip + Fab XL acid pads), finished with M&S night cream - which I got in a beauty box and have been impressed with and will probably now buy. Probably shutting the stable the door after the horse had bolted, as I’m sure the wine I drank last night will have counteracted my efforts - but it’s been a tough few weeks! Did manage a pint of water before going to sleep, which is actually one of the main things my skin seems to need. Haven’t actually looked in the mirror this morning!

GettingStuffed · 20/02/2022 10:58

Reusable face wipe, poly something serum and simple rich moisturiser

EnglishMuffins · 20/02/2022 10:58

I never found rosehip oil did much compared to other oils- but then it's more for the first signs of ageing rather than my old face Grin Caroline Hirons once said that no amount of rosehip after the age of 40 is going to do anything. I also love the Neal's Yard oils- frankincense probably my favourite but I'm using the rose at the moment.
@Geamhradh - I used Rosehip from 40 with very good skin (genes?) but just don’t see improvement or I’ve not used it much.

I love frankincense so will try that too.

Gonnagetgoing · 20/02/2022 11:36

@Geamhradh - thanks for all your advice!

I’ve come to skincare a bit late as I’ve never been keen on surgery or Botox etc (just personal choice) but a skincare expert friend of my DM who’s now dead (Sad) told us a lot when younger re face/eye creams etc and most I’ve done is spf on face, good diet, no smoking etc. I do have good genes but wish I’d known all the modern skincare when I was younger!

This is going to turn into a "I wash my face with soap only and have no wrinkles at 75" thread Grin I can see it

Tret has changed my skin totally, and I can't just wash my face or I'm covered in spots with my skin peeling off

Yep Grin I did the "Dove Challenge" a few years ago- they said you could just wash your face with Dove soap and you'd be just as beautiful as if you had cleansed and moisturized.

That went well. Grin

Peridot1 · 20/02/2022 13:53

I can just imagine @Geamhradh! Brave of you to try though!

I think those who never use much skincare don’t get that it’s about self care as much as appearance. At least for me. I find it very calming doing my routine every morning and evening. It’s never a chore. It’s me time.

ArabeI · 20/02/2022 14:11

I don't use the same products every single night. A couple of times a week I begin with aloe vera gel with my Foreo Bear, then, 2-3 times a week will use Paula's Choice AHA which keeps my skin nice and smooth.

I have a couple of eye serums, retinol eye cream, face serums. I don't use oils and creams together, and will occasionally use a nice Typology carrot oil in place of a night cream. Also silk pillowcase so I don't wake up with creases.
