Cerave Salicylic Acid Smoothing cleanser (2 applications buffed each time with a warm flannel)
Followed by Superdrug's overnight glycolic Acid peel mask and slathered with a thick layer of Astral which I've seen mentioned on here a lot.

I'll look like I've lost at least decade, right? (35 irl)

What have you applied in hopeful anticipation? Brew

An I just say I hate boots for changing the formula of the otherwise used to be good cucumber cleansing lotion?! Tried it the other week and it almost was like paint stripper!

Nivea 2 in 1 cleanser and toner is great. Have tried double cleansing but not got on with it. Soap and glory peaches and cream wash is amazing. Neals yard rose oil is lovely. Not really seen much difference in using rosehip oil. Kiehls Midnight recovery is lovely but again no difference. A Rodial moisturiser was great to use (didn’t see much difference though) but a gift and I wouldn’t buy it myself.

French friend living in London after having issues with skin after copper coil removed now swears by Caudalie products and her 42 year ofd skin looks amazing! Very glowy and healthy.

Lush Shangri-la and a frownie patch.

Geamhradh · 20/02/2022 07:52

@Gonnagetgoing

I never found rosehip oil did much compared to other oils- but then it's more for the first signs of ageing rather than my old face Grin Caroline Hirons once said that no amount of rosehip after the age of 40 is going to do anything. I also love the Neal's Yard oils- frankincense probably my favourite but I'm using the rose at the moment.

interferingma · 20/02/2022 07:57

last night I used -
Eve Taylor cleanser
Eve Taylor eye cream
Eve Taylor firming serum
I am reading this thread with interest because i don't know what half the words are and need to learn!

PolkaSpace · 20/02/2022 08:03

Well the advance night repair doesn't seem to have reversed any wrinkles. But my skin does feel springy

KatharinaRosalie · 20/02/2022 08:07

So OP, did your face fall off? Grin I love love acids, they made a massive difference to my skin.

I used:
Facetheory Clarifying Cleanser (love this brand, and I'm normally into high end cosmetics, but they have some amazing products).
Retirides retinol from a pharmacy in Spain.
Silly George lash serum

My skin is quite sensitive, so if I use stronger acids than the cleanser, I skip the retinol and use Votary serums or oils instead.

ANR has no actives so beyond adding hydration and plumping the skin, it's not going to do much. I've tried it, and it's a nice hyaluronic based serum. It was ground-breaking in its time for being the first serum to have that consistency, and to use those ingredients in skincare. Now, every company does their own version, which is why EL keep shoving in random probiotics and mushrooms and lord knows what else as they give it ever fanciful names and relaunch their "best ever" version of it. Missha do a dupe- same ingredients, half the price. I've had that as well, and yes, nice hydration. No turning back time. But at least at £20 thereabouts it's a nicer price point.

Nothing.
I occasionally apply moisturiser to my face after a shower when my skin is dry.
I don't understand women who think some creams are going to magically restore youth, it's mostly genetics.
If you do it because you enjoy it fair enough.

PolkaSpace · 20/02/2022 08:57

@Geamhradh thanks. I assumed it wouldn't do much! It was passed to me by MIL who had received it as a gift and decided she didn't need it but clearly thought I did hahaha. I usually stick to vichy.

Anyone who thinks creams are going to restore youth is delusional, sure. Retinol/tret will reduce lines, Vit C will add glow and protect from pollution (so any vit C product should be applied in the morning, not the evening) acid toners will exfoliate gently (they have replaced the horrific sandy scrubs of our youth) and so will also add glow.

Anything else will add moisture and hydration, but that's about it. A moisturizer/serum which will do a bit more needs to have peptides in it. (Matrixyl etc) Any actives really need to be separate products as no "retinol night cream" or "vit C cream" will contain enough of a % to make any difference.

Someone above mentioned squalane- it's just a vegetable oil- it won't fade any spots unless there are some actives in it.

mrsjg · 20/02/2022 09:00

I'd love to try Trinny's new cleansers but I think they are too expensive.

G5000 · 20/02/2022 09:01

You can say that about many things. 'What a silly person doing couch to 5K, your running talent is mostly genetics!' Yes it is, but I personally can get faster if I practice. And my skin, as it genetically might be, can also improve with right products.

PolkaSpace · 20/02/2022 09:02

Sometimes it's just nice to rub something on your face. We all know it won't change our lives.

Geamhradh · 20/02/2022 09:04
@Geamhradh thanks. I assumed it wouldn't do much! It was passed to me by MIL who had received it as a gift and decided she didn't need it but clearly thought I did hahaha. I usually stick to vichy.
Vichy is brilliant- always has been. Doesn't spend the massive amount on marketing Emperor's New Clothes that a lot of companies do, and doesn't have paid product placers dropping threads onto MN like others (yes, the Ordinary 5-6 years ago, I do mean you)

You do have to dig around to see what the products actually are sometimes, because they don't go in for "youth restore" wanky names either. My vit C holy grail is called LiftActiv Anti-Oxidant fresh shot - no mention of vitC but it contains 15% of L-ascorbic which is the best kind and at the % which will work.

I just use it as a moisturiser at night, I don't expect anything else from it. And ps - CH isn't the be all and end all of skincare. She's no expert either. She flip flops between brands that she favours for whatever reasons, and those reasons are imo dubious.

PolkaSpace · 20/02/2022 09:15

@Geamhradh yep that's why I like it!

Shmithecat2 · 20/02/2022 09:17

@cherrytopcake

Superfacialist vit c cleansing oil

Followed by Eucerin gel cleanser for oily/blemish prone skin

The Ordinary glycolic acid toner
The Ordinary Niacinamide & zinc

Simple lightweight moisturiser...

Anyone got a good moisturiser to recommend that's lightweight and won't make me greasy/shiny ? Feel like Simple is not actually moisturising my skin. 31 years old with oily t zone.

I have the glycolic acid on rotation with a retinol, azelaic acid and alpha arbutin + hyaluronic acid on other nights.

A gel moisturiser might work - I use Superdrugs Vit C range gel moisturiser in the mornings. Sinks in well. Although if you're not into big fragrances, it might not be for you. I think it smells glorious though, I'm a fragrance fan Smile
PolkaSpace · 20/02/2022 09:22
@Geamhradh yep that's why I like it!
Though even then I'm not sure I need the 89 minerals or whatever it is in the serum.

Geamhradh · 20/02/2022 09:22

@Shmithecat2

I NEVER recommend CH for that reason. I recommend Nadine Baggott who is honest and recommends only 5 products for any skin, any age.
CH knows her stuff, but I agree she's very much in the thralls of the product companies she promotes.
She's right about rosehip though. It's no HG.

PolkaSpace · 20/02/2022 09:23

@Shmithecat2 avene?

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 20/02/2022 09:23

Washed my face with locally made organic soap, then Aldi's Q10 serum followed by their night cream and Vaseline (on my lips and also around my eyes).

Geamhradh · 20/02/2022 09:24

@cherrytopcake

You can use hyaluronic all the time- it doesn't need rotating. It's not an active- the "acid" is a bit of a misnomer, it's just a hydrator. Needs to be applied to damp skin though, or the opposite effect will happen as it needs water to work

Shmithecat2 · 20/02/2022 09:29
@Shmithecat2 avene?
Sorry, not sure what your question about avene is? Smile
