Anyone got long grey/white hair?

So.. the time has come when my hair is pretty much snow white under my brunette colour, according to my hairdresser, and I’ve gone a bit lighter in preparation to embrace the white, or at least save roots showing within two weeks.

I’m thinking of aiming for white with a toner eventually. My hair is quite long and I’d like to keep it that way.

Anyone done this, or know of anyone who has?

@Chishnfips

Mine is silver and about just below shoulder length. I'm growing it as long as possible. Check out annikavonholdt instagram for some stunning long grey hair inspiration.
Same here. Natural colour is very dark brown. Coloured over the greys for years and took the plunge to grow it out in lockdown. One problem I’ve got is that it’s snowy white on top and steel grey underneath. Also gone a bit yellowy round my face. I’m planning to put a toner on it today to see if that helps with the yellowing.

Go for it @WouldBeGood! And thanks to you and @GettingStuffed for the kind compliments.

So many gorgeous grey hair pictures - wonderful to see. You are all fierce! 😘

@WouldBeGood what do you mean by a toner? Would a toner have any effect on white hair? I'd like one if it does. My hairdresser won't put any colour in mine because she says nothing will take

WouldBeGood · 27/02/2022 18:03

Something to cool any yellowy tones, or maybe pink of purple 😃

Watching. want to keep an eye out for toner or shampoos to use a home to tone down the grey hair.

WouldBeGood · 08/03/2022 14:06

I’m going to quiz my hairdresser next time I’m in @Oblomov22.

That Jack Martin guy referred to above does quite inspirational transformations for those not averse to colour/chemicals to ease transition and tone

I let mine grow out after the perpetual mum bun of mat leave - I noticed some greys had grown nearly the full length of the rest of my hair so got curious about keeping it. Then there was lockdown and couldn't get it done anyway.

I'm salt and pepper now I suppose. I really like it as I've never had to deal with growing out chunky roots, the silver strands just seem to do their own thing!

However I'm mindful I'll probably need a more made up face for work etc to not look washed out when that's part of my routine again.

I love silverstrandsofglitter on Instagram for hair and beauty tips, and delude myself I rock it as good as she does Grin

Just had it cut to bra strap length to get rid of last compost and lock down split ends but had it long like this throughout my grow out. Got loads of compliments - it's very white at the front. Following this thread to find shine products that work for grey hair as I miss the gloss of darker hair.

Compost!! Colour obviously.

WouldBeGood · 08/03/2022 16:45

Oh wow, @cissyandbessy! Loving that compost free hair 😃

@Brokenseas she’s great. I like that look! I’m a full makeup every day woman, but might need to change it up.

I’m naturally fair, but been dark for about six years: a poor time of life to do this, rootwise, but I love the shine, so will also be trying for that.

I seem to have a diferent problem to most.I'd been thinking about growing the colour out for ages and took the plunge during lockdowns, . It is chin length and curly. However it went really fluffy and straight in parts. My hairdresser recommended cutting down on conditioner, and its so much better.
I admit that I was generous with conditioner when I had it coloured but I ended up going a week with no conditioner and then about 30% of what I had used previously. I use L'Oreal Professionel Mythic Oil after washing
Its mainly white rather than grey and although I keep thinking about a pink or blue temporary box dye,I really can't be bothered.

Brokenseas · 08/03/2022 17:30

That's interesting Raining, I noticed I used to use a lot more conditioner on my coloured hair too. You'd think it would be the opposite. I recently switched to leave in sprays and was surprised they do the trick!

So, update as I was at hairdresser for my next lightening. She said you can tone and colour grey hair, so I’m reassured.
