Hush tulle skirt (Floriza?) - help with styling please

I couldn't wait to receive my Hush tulle skirt last year - it was the answer to everything, and finally, I would be Carrie Bradshaw (I need a hand over the face emoji here!). However, things don't always work out as planned, and it has sat in my wardrobe gathering dust. Please help me work out what I can wear it with/for? I absolutely love it. I bought the pale grey/blue colour. I should have waited and bought the navy version, I saw someone wearing that recently with a pink silky blouse looking fab. (she was much taller than me though!).

That sounds lovely @marmiteloversunite. Can I ask where you got the jumper please? :)

It's a joules jumper. It had horrible plastic buttons so I changed them for pretty ones.

I think once you wear the skirt the swishyness will make you love it. I feel really special in it.

Fairylightsongs · 06/02/2022 09:00

@toastfiend

You nailed that look and pull it off fabulously in that photo, very cool indeed.

I have this in the navy - haven't worn it yet (joys of prolonged WFH and having pets, it's definitely an out of the house skirt!) but I'm going to wear it either with t shirt and biker jacket plus lace up heeled chunky DMs, or with a cropped lilac cardigan from Needle & Thread which sits really nicely with it.

I couldn't get tucking a jumper in to sit correctly on me, I think because I have quite a small waist with comparatively huge hips so it just doesn't quite work as there's just too much fabric. A cropped cardi/jumper/biker works better on me

liveforchocolate · 06/02/2022 10:47

what a great idea to change the buttons - I'm not very creative and never think of doing things like that!

lilac cardigan with it sounds great too.

so many lovely ideas now, thank you all!

@liveforchocolate mine is navy. I've worn it with a black biker jumper (also from hush) or a tight thin knit black jumper, biker boots and leather jacket.

Some great ideas above.

I was desperate for this skirt in the grey or the navy but they never had it in stock in my size. I do still really want it though £100 feels steep for such a unique and not always wearable style. I now don't know whether to pre-order it in Mauve or wait and see if they bring it out in a darker colour which I think is generally more wearable 🙈

Thinkle · 06/02/2022 14:23

Cos has some kitted wrap cardigans in a slightly chunkier knit. There is a pink and a grey but the cool toned navy could work really well and look less ballerina.
I commented up thread about oversized knitwear but didn’t reply to your question. Something with an open neck and a fine knit, maybe cashmere.

I’ve just come back from the shops with an amazing fuchsia pink cropped teddy coat… now that could be a statement look with your skirt!

Pinktruffle · 06/02/2022 15:26

@Thinkle I think you need to show us the jacket!

TizerorFizz · 06/02/2022 15:46

Fitted cashmere T shirt. DD wears hers with this type of knitted top. Something fitted with great buttons or necklace looks great.

Thinkle · 06/02/2022 15:53

@Pinktruffle it’s this www.freepeople.com/uk/shop/lena-teddy-jacket/?category=SEARCHRESULTS&color=066&searchparams=q%3Dlena&type=REGULAR&quantity=1
Don’t judge the price, it was love. It also looks a lot better with a bra and a top on underneath
But I do think it could work with the Hush skirt if someone was feeling very bold.

Hello, I've been reading this thread with great interest.

How would you dress a ruffled skirt like this up for, say, an afternoon tea?

marmiteloversunite · 06/02/2022 17:31

There are a couple of these skirts on eBay. Probably listed by people who don't know how to style them!Smile

For afternoon tea I would wear with a thin knit jumper and chunky necklace.

Pinktruffle · 06/02/2022 18:04

@Thinkle I would never judge the price, you know your budget, not me!
But also, totally worth it! I love it!

liveforchocolate · 06/02/2022 18:26

@Thinkle that is gorgeous and so much fun!! def with a bra & top tho I would say ;)

I've ordered 2 fine knit jumpers to try with it - one is pale grey cashmere and the other cream so I'll see what looks nice. Am also contemplating the Hush biker jumper but thinking that looks a bit thick and we're almost in spring now aren't we?! Or is it that time of year when I think it is getting warmer but it isn't yet!

LittleMissTake · 09/02/2022 17:43

It’s lovely. Does it work on someone rather short (5’2’’ ish)?

Wagsandclaws · 09/02/2022 18:56

@liveforchocolate post a pic when you find the right combo, I have ordered the pale grey/blue one but it's not going for a couple of weeks.

Excited to see what you style yours with Smile

liveforchocolate · 09/02/2022 19:51

I've tried it on a couple of times with the right style top but wrong colour, and I feel like a baby elephant ;) maybe it isn't the styling, but is just the shape on me?...

CreakingatTheWhinges · 09/02/2022 21:01

Just came on to this thread as I have been lusting for a tulle skirt for AGES but like @LittleMissTake I'm only 5ft 2..... I can't work out whether I can find one for that sizing or if I will look like I'm playing dress up in it given being 'vertically challenged"

southoftheriver.co.uk/collections/tulle - this company keep popping up in my insta feed and I reeeeeaaaalllly want one.....

Remmy123 · 09/02/2022 21:41

Round neck short sleeve t shirt / trainers or biker style boots / blazer

Very cool!

imstilljenny2 · 10/02/2022 08:50

Aaahhh! This thread has just made me but the skirt. It's so gorgeous!

ShortKipper · 08/04/2022 12:25

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but I've just bought this, but in midnight. I loved it so much but it was a real punt as I'm only 5' 2.5" - but actually I think it looks pretty good on.

Any thoughts on what colours and styles of top would go with the dark blue colour? I've got some chunky silver sandals which I think would work with the right thing, and white trainers too.

I was thinking of a white top to start - what do you think of these? I'm a size 8-10 if that helps.

I probably wouldn't go for the first one as the ruching will compete with the skirt tiers I think.

The second on looks lovely though.

Style this down with either boots, trainers or, if it's hot then some tan sandals.

Its a lovely skirt, I've got both colours now.
