Help! Have decided I am getting some decent straighteners. Which ones?

Following on from this thread

The Mark Hill ones from Boots.

FHIs - don't know what they are.

these

Or GHD's (in which case, where from?)

Hubby says no point getting the next best thing. I don't want to try and save money and only spend £50 if they are no good, but equally I don't want to spend £100 if I can get away with spending less.

Hubby just said I looked sexy with my hair straight!

Just logged on NAB and wanted to see if you had bought any! Good choice though they are a bit more expensive from salons. Who cares when you want em right now?!

The light tells you they are ready to use which is pretty much straight way. The new mark IV ones are the new model. Mine seem fab today after using my old ones (new clean plate etc)

yOU will feel fantastic for ages now till you get used to having lovely hair all the timE! dOESNT it make you feel more attractive?
I always have made myself look nice, make up clothes etc but my hair always let me down. I used to wear it up in pony tail all wk and then professional blow dry at wkends or when i went out. Ghd's mean you can look good every day! How shallow i am.

carmenelectra · 29/12/2007 22:44

oh and use the spray and section hair, it amkes sure hair protected and hair straight underneath

bigwombat · 29/12/2007 23:00

Would love to use these but am worried about them damaging my hair - it's already dry and brittle and thinning a little at the front (despite dry hair shampoo/conditioner, anti-frizz products, straigtening products etc, etc.) Only ever used them once before at the hairdressers and noticed that quite a bit of hair fell out afterwards!! What do you all think?

carmenelectra · 29/12/2007 23:06

think you have to be careful. They get very hot.

Is your hair coloured as well?

I would say they would be ok to use occasionally and use protector spray and deep conditioning treatments regualrly.

Wouldnt say my hair is in any worse condition since using them and i use em every day.

bigwombat · 29/12/2007 23:09

Thanks. My hair isn't coloured at the mo. Trouble is, they make my hair so straight at the hairdressers and then as soon as I wash it, it's back to its old frizzy mop! Guess I'd better avoid them for now!

carmenelectra · 29/12/2007 23:14

my hair goes back to being a mess if dont straighten!

Think if you take care of your hair you will be ok. My hair does come out a lot (think it always does when its long) but dont blame that on the starighteners. Although my hairdresser did say its gone a bit thinner since just having a baby. thanks

kindersurprise · 29/12/2007 23:24

Just had a look at the prices of GHDs, you lot raving about them have got me thinking about buying a pair.

They are even more expensive in Germany! 179euros, that is about 149 quid.

Has anyone ever ordered them from ebay? Saw these ones.

carmenelectra · 29/12/2007 23:31

Kinder

I buy loads of stuff from ebay but didnt think straighteners any cheaper when i looked.

Just saw your link and yes i would buy em!! Exactly same as ones ive just got. The cheapest ive seen em for is 97 quid!

kindersurprise · 30/12/2007 00:16

I have emailed the seller to ask if they post to Germany. Otherwise I will have them sent to Scotland and will just have to wait till end of Jan when I will be visiting my parents.

But if it means saving 60quid, then I can wait another 4 weeks.

ladylush · 30/12/2007 00:29

I have very curly hair and although I have GHDs I still have to blow dry my hair straight first. It is sooooo time consuming that I often don't bother cos it takes about an hour and a half to get my hair straight. Shame as I do love it straight.

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 30/12/2007 17:34

My hair is still straight today! I could tell a difference straight away when doing it as it didn't pull on my hair like the BaByliss ones, it made it feel brittle, and there is no way it would stil have been straight like this the next day.

This is me today

I haven't done anything at all to my hair and it has been in pony tails twice. Still looks okay.

kindersurprise · 30/12/2007 19:32

Your hair still looks great.

So you really noticed a difference between them and your old straightners?

The ebay ones don't deliver to Germany so I will have to wait till I go to Scotland.

Have decided to ask my DH to buy them for me for my birthday. He was going to go out tomorrow and buy something (last minute as usual) but I would prefer the GHDs.

kindersurprise, are you me?

i am having ghds for my birthday, in 2 days time

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 30/12/2007 19:36

There is a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge difference in the two sets of straighteners. GHDs actually straighten my hiar without feeling like it is being snapped and it has stayed straight, but not in the I have just had my hair done way that is too done for me.

eggnognally · 30/12/2007 19:37

looking good NAB! I decided to have another go with my Hairtools ones. They are not so bad. I straightened it yesterday, slept on it and haven't touched it today. Still looks ok, so am wondering whether there is any point in getting GHDs. It has curled a bit at the ends today but that is because some of my hair was poking out of my shower hat, so got some water on it.

mumzyof2 · 30/12/2007 20:29

got to be ghd's!

kindersurprise · 30/12/2007 20:31

tutter
Are you a New Years Day baby then? I was born on 2nd. My mum has still not forgiven me as the babies born on the 1st got a present.

carmenelectra · 30/12/2007 21:57

NAB your hair still looks dead straight! I do suspect though thats its not that unmangeable in real life?!

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 31/12/2007 19:17

OMG it is awful in real life!!!

did them today and I managed it a bit better. Had to get hubby to do the back though.
