Help! Have decided I am getting some decent straighteners. Which ones?

Following on from this thread

The Mark Hill ones from Boots.

FHIs - don't know what they are.

these

Or GHD's (in which case, where from?)

Hubby says no point getting the next best thing. I don't want to try and save money and only spend £50 if they are no good, but equally I don't want to spend £100 if I can get away with spending less.

Certainly did!!!

No more talk of the ones at half the price now please!!

Most people will recommend ghds because they'll be the only ones they had experience of of the newer type ie the ones that heat up to 1 million degrees with ceramic plates. But of all those types, I suspect differences must be marginal once the ghd technology had been worked out and then copied

pussycatmomma · 29/12/2007 17:41

yay!!! i was so glad to get to your post where you are saying you have actually bought them!!!!!!!!
Im on my 2nd pair in about 8 years. They are truly wonderful, a gift from God!!!!
My hair is very very curly, similar to lous from her piccies, and ghds make it SO shiny and straight. Ive worn it curly the past couple of days, and straightend today, and i feel like a brand new person!!! You will too!
By the way, my dh finds it INCREDIBLY difficult to ok the purchase of such an expensive item!!! As far as he can see, there are hundreds of cheaper products that do "exactly the same thing" - but i stick to my guns on this one, every time. If i have little else in life, at least i have the option to have good hair!!! I see it as a reward for enduring such hellish teenage hair years. If you have curly hair you will understand!
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
she got them, she got them, she got them -YAY!!

FairyTaleOfNewYork · 29/12/2007 17:42

which ones did u get nab?

as i need a set as well.

before and after pics please

MaryAnnSingleton · 29/12/2007 17:45

Can I ask a question about straighteners please ! (never used them, not even had my hair straightened at hairdressers )
Do you need to dry your hair first with hairdryer before using and if you have very fine hair like mine will it not get frizzled by using every day ?

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 29/12/2007 17:45

Oh goodness. Pics!!

I got GHD's from a salon. I asked for help and she told me to go where I normally get my hair cut and get them to show me how to use them. Great service when you are giving them £127.50!

BTW The light flashes after a minute or so of being turned on. Does that mean they are ready to use?

I have also coloured my hair today so I blow dried it and then waited 1.5 hours before straightening as I was too scared to use them!

straighten dry hair, i use paul mitchell heat seal to protect my hair... and it stops it going frixzzy

Tinker · 29/12/2007 17:48

You do need to dry your hair and I only use after I've washed my hair, not in between hair washs. And I only wash my hair every 4 or 5 days And I've lots of fine, frizz-prone when just being breathed on type of hair

pussycatmomma · 29/12/2007 17:48

and???????? do you love the result??

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 29/12/2007 17:49

yikes!

Bear in mind it is my first attempt.

OP posts:
lou33 · 29/12/2007 17:50

pussycatmomma · 29/12/2007 17:51

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 29/12/2007 17:52

I am, though a bit worried now that I should have got the SHE ones and saved some money.

OP posts:
chocolatespiders · 29/12/2007 17:55

no they are brill, def worth it... lokks brill, did you section it to straighten it?

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 29/12/2007 17:56

Ha ha! No, couldn't wait just improvised with my fingers. It didn't come with any clips but I have some anyway. Will spend longer next time. do you really think it looks okay? New colour too!

OP posts:
chocolatespiders · 29/12/2007 17:58

looks fab......

i section mine to straigten it i get a better result that way... i have the ones hairdressers use from boots.... did you use a heat protection spray.. that is also well worth the money imo

pussycatmomma · 29/12/2007 18:00

ooh yes, definatly section. Start at the underneath and work your way up to the top, the crown being the very last bit with all tht lovely swishy hair underneath

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 29/12/2007 18:00

I got some free spray with them.

Anyone shed any light on the flashing red light?

OP posts:
FairyTaleOfNewYork · 29/12/2007 18:02

looks good nab.

definatly need to get some.

ScoobyDoo · 29/12/2007 18:03

Yes your right about the light, they take about a minute to heat up.

I always do my hair in 2 sections but half up & do underneath, then let top section down & do that.

I could not be without mine, have had them a year & they are still fab, i use them nearly everyday too

chocolatespiders · 29/12/2007 18:04

cant remeber about the light can ell you tomorrow... think it flashes till heated up - 30 seconds

Tamum · 29/12/2007 18:06

It flashes once it reaches the right temperature if they're the same on all GHDs

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 29/12/2007 18:09

I feel a bit that I have started doing my hair, trying to do my nails, etc. I have never had decent hair, nor been pretty so not had anything to be, vain can't think of the word there, about before.
