Help! Have decided I am getting some decent straighteners. Which ones?

Following on from this thread

The Mark Hill ones from Boots.

FHIs - don't know what they are.

these

Or GHD's (in which case, where from?)

Hubby says no point getting the next best thing. I don't want to try and save money and only spend £50 if they are no good, but equally I don't want to spend £100 if I can get away with spending less.

My daughter swears by GHD's, you could try e-bay, but watch for postage costs.

Astrophe · 29/12/2007 10:00

pink fhi straighteners - love 'em

Watters · 29/12/2007 10:00

I think Toni and Guy do their own version

carmenelectra · 29/12/2007 10:01

i looked on ebay and Amazon and all in all it didnt work out much cheaper. Some second hand (which i was prepared to buy) were 90 odd quid! And they were the old model.

janmoomoo · 29/12/2007 11:00

GHD's are the best, every thread says this. I used my sisters Babyliss the other day and they were luke warm compared to GHDs. Been using them everyday for 4 years and hair is in brilliant condition (thanks to Aussies three minute miracle conditioner!). Got mine on ebay. There is someone advertising on there who fixes them also if they go wrong, but my first pair lasted three years of daily use. You wont regret getting them.

Tamum · 29/12/2007 11:05

I have GHDs, previously had Hairtools ones from eBay. I think they are marginally better but nowhere near as much better as you'd think from threads on here- it must be hair-dependent I also got some Vidal Sassoon ones for $28 dollars in New York because I couldn't bear to be without them, and they were almost as good, too. Having said all that, when I bought my GHDs, HQ Hair had the best price.

eggnognally · 29/12/2007 12:21

Oh Bums. Have been watching this thread, as have just ordered some straighteners from Amazon, but am now not sure if have bought the right ones. Looked at all reviews and went with the Babyliss Pro 230 which, according to owners were every bit as good as their old GHDs. I don't think there was a single bad review.

I have some Hairtools ones which were ok to begin with but the plates seem to have gone all crappy and they aren't doing the job. When I say that, what I mean is that I can get my hair ALMOST dead straight, but by about an hour later the curl is beginning to come back, then just ends up kinky and frizzy!

eggnognally · 29/12/2007 12:24

Shall I cancel my order? It hasn't been despatched yet?

chocolatespiders · 29/12/2007 12:26

i would get ghd's well worth the extra money...imo

lou33 · 29/12/2007 12:34

the ones i have keep my hair straight until i wash it again

carmenelectra · 29/12/2007 12:34

just straightened my hair with new ghd's as im going to the theatre in a bit and hair looks lovely! Ghd's can do no wrong in my eyes!

eggnognally · 29/12/2007 12:45

lou33 - where did you buy yours? what product do you use with it?

eggnognally · 29/12/2007 12:46

(have cancelled Amazon order - phew, that was close!)

lou33 · 29/12/2007 12:48

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 29/12/2007 17:25

Tinker · 29/12/2007 17:33

I've got the She ones. Recommended by a hairdresser who now uses these in his salon instead of ghd's. They are identical; made in same factory etc.

lou33 · 29/12/2007 17:34

did you get some?
