Do you remember Wella 'wash in/ wash out toners'?

90's favourite for about £1 a sachet/ lasted 6 washes. Do they still make such a thing?

I've got natural hair and no desire to go back to perm dye that grows out in a block line. The nearest thing I can find is the josh wood tubes of gloss for nearly £20 a go and all the reviews say it only really lasts one wash.

Anyone got any recommendations!?

What sort of colour are you thinking? You could try Shrine drops, you mix them with conditioner?

catandbabymama · 04/01/2022 19:27

Used to love them! I believe Superdrug do something similar of their own in a little grey bottle (I had a red one 2 ish years ago so hopefully they still do them!)

Clarabellawilliamson · 04/01/2022 19:28

Super drug do some for 1.99, they seem to have some cheaper copies of gloss colours too... Ive not tried them to let you know if they are any good though!

OddBoots · 04/01/2022 19:28

My DD loves the Marion ones and they seem to last well.

Thoosa · 04/01/2022 19:30

I do remember them. I think the equivalent now might be “glossing”.

Ohpulltheotherone · 04/01/2022 19:31

Superdrug do toners, they’re about £2 and you get a good few uses out of each one.

Those and boots henna shampoo, left a slight reddish tint every time you washed your hair, loved that shampoo.

Loveacuppa · 04/01/2022 19:31

tresemme do a hair enhancing mask - the brunette version works well on my brown hair

Loveacuppa · 04/01/2022 19:32
  • colour enhancing - not hair enhancing!
Ohpulltheotherone · 04/01/2022 19:32

I’ve used these for years between colouring, swear by it for a boost of colour and they condition quite nicely too

ShakespearesSisters · 04/01/2022 19:35

Yep, super drug. They do about 10 colours. I think they are about £1.49 or 3 for £4 or something.
Although my grey hair is still sporting a hint of strawberry blonde and I haven't used it since October so now have grey roots.

Lindy2 · 04/01/2022 19:35

I used to love these as a teen.

I don't think they ever changed the colour at all of my very dark brown hair but I used to like the fact that I was being very sophisticated and dying my hair. Grin

yorkshireteaspoonie · 04/01/2022 19:38

Aah I think the Superdrug things might be the ticket! I'm a 'level 7' I think the term is, mid blond / brunette colour and with some greys. I'm not trying to colour the greys but add a bit of shine and depth.

I loved these wash in toners and shaders as a teen. Saw the Superdrug one and will try it. Didn't want to before Christmas incase my hair went green 🤣

Shrine drops

It's a bigger initial outlay, but you only need a few drops per use so it actually works out quite cheap. I have never used them myself but they do get quite good reviews I think.

I used the Rich Mahogany colour and loved it!

No experience of anything similar since developing loads of allergies but it was a similar colour to the henna/indigo mix I use now.

WingBingo · 04/01/2022 20:45

I have just ordered these too!

A touch of red to add some interest to the weekend.

WingBingo · 04/01/2022 20:46

Oh my reply to post didn’t work.

I meant the Marion ones from Amazon.

Roominmyhouse · 04/01/2022 20:47

Shaders and toners! They were basically coloured shampoo and were meant to last up to 3 washes but I often stuck the mahogany one on my blondish hair and it often lasted much long to my mums delight!

Helpimfalling · 04/01/2022 20:53

Oh my lord you've just took me rite back to my early teens.

Not thought about that stuff in years.

I feel really nostalgic now actually.

Weird I never thought wash in wash out would make me feel like that!

iklboo · 04/01/2022 20:55

I can still remember what they smell like!

Wiredforsound · 05/01/2022 08:17

I use these and they’re great - and on special in Sainsburys at the moment.

I’m in the same position as you. I’ve just spent 2 years growing out my dyed hair but my hair isn’t quite grey enough to look amazing. It just looks like faded brown, so I use these instead of normal shampoo and they look really natural. The grey picks up the colour differently to the brown so my hair continues to look multitonal rather than the flat colour of a box dye. Just watch out for the Tresemme red. It’s really vibrant on grey hair! The blonde one only highlights the grey hair, not the brown, so you end up with blonde highlights.

I also like the John Frieda colour depositing shampoos (usually Boots or Superdrug).
