Do you remember Wella 'wash in/ wash out toners'?

90's favourite for about £1 a sachet/ lasted 6 washes. Do they still make such a thing?

I've got natural hair and no desire to go back to perm dye that grows out in a block line. The nearest thing I can find is the josh wood tubes of gloss for nearly £20 a go and all the reviews say it only really lasts one wash.

Anyone got any recommendations!?

I used them a lot in the late 70s early 80s

lindyloo57 · 05/01/2022 17:38

I brought the purple shrine drops, but to scared to use them the colour looks so dark, has anyone tried the white or the ash colour, just wonder what it would do to mouse coloured hair with a few grey strands.

ChocoholicContralto · 05/01/2022 17:45

I use the Superdrug one. I have reddish brown hair with quite a few white streaks now, so I use it to disguise the white a bit. I use the darkest colour they have in the range.

ISpyCobraKai · 05/01/2022 17:50

I swear by the Superdrug ones.
They really help cover my grey and aren't damaging at all.

ParadiseLaundry · 05/01/2022 17:52

@iklboo

I can still remember what they smell like!
I was going to say this! As soon as read the op title my brain reminded me! I'd kill to smell one again for real!
LiveFromNewYork · 05/01/2022 17:53

The Superdrug ones are really similar to the shaders and toners sachets of old

TonyThreePies · 05/01/2022 17:59

Will these stain grey hair? I grew the dye out over lockdown and have been thinking about getting these for a change of look every now and then but I don't want my hair to get stained and have to live with growing it out again!

minniep · 05/01/2022 18:01

I love the Superdrug ones. I used to love shaders and toners.

RestingStitchFace · 05/01/2022 18:02

Superdrug ones are not bad. Sadly they have discontinued my favourite (chestnut) so I use others. But they do make my hair lovely and shiny.

NYnewstart · 05/01/2022 18:03

The only one that made any difference to my hair was the mahogany one. Used them regularly though.

Anyone remember Sun in.

Made my hair go ginger.

mogkat · 05/01/2022 18:03

Wow these take me back. I remember when my mum let me dye my hair for the first time as a teenager - it was with a Wella Shaders Mahogony.....I seem to remember it just made an almighty mess in the bathroom and didn't do much to my hair Confused

MagnoliatheMagnificent · 05/01/2022 18:08

I've been looking for something temporary ish so some of these are great. I have a really sensitive scalp however, does anyone know if any of these are more gentle than others? I'm after some mid-purple..

ambereeree · 05/01/2022 18:42

@Lindy2 me too. I used to stand in the sun and show my friends how much lighter my hair was haha

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 05/01/2022 20:07

I can’t remember the brand, but there used to be one called Hint Of A Tint too.

RobertaFirmino · 05/01/2022 20:16

Hint of a Tint! There was one which came in a triangular box that I remember Mum using - can't think what it was called...

I loved these, there was also a mousse one, I think it was Wella but might have been another brand. Lasted ages in my hair.

MintyGreenDream · 05/01/2022 20:34

Remember colour mousse that you put on damp hair then dried?! Loved it

MintyGreenDream · 05/01/2022 20:36

This! Grin

I loved them - my hair was fine and a dull brown and they really used to take! Which was great sometimes but not the time my hair was so mahogany it had a Janet Street Porter vibe. Sometimes you could get them free with a Just Seventeen.

I also remember the Harmony ones in a triangular box. My mum used to put a honey brown one in my hair before a party. I was only about 8.

I also remember Glints, also semi permanent with amazing staying power. The black one made your hair properly black.

userxx · 05/01/2022 20:53

Loved them too. I used to use a chestnut shade.

HappenstanceMarmite · 05/01/2022 21:01

I came on to say about the triangular box dyes! I used a red based tint on my almost-black hair…think it was called Burnished Copper or similar. Used to make my hair really shine 👌

GrannieD · 05/01/2022 21:22

Aww the smell was gorgeous and hair was proper soft. Was a blast from the past !

RobertaFirmino · 06/01/2022 03:02

Thank you @Eternallyfrazzled, that was bugging me!

Speaking of Wella, they do a home highlighting kit and I don't think the packaging has changed in the last 40-odd years. She looks like she used to be in the Human League!
