Do you remember Wella 'wash in/ wash out toners'?

90's favourite for about £1 a sachet/ lasted 6 washes. Do they still make such a thing?

I've got natural hair and no desire to go back to perm dye that grows out in a block line. The nearest thing I can find is the josh wood tubes of gloss for nearly £20 a go and all the reviews say it only really lasts one wash.

Anyone got any recommendations!?

I use that wella kit, been using it since the 80s

periwinklepetals · 06/01/2022 09:08

I used to love those sachets!!

I recommend the different toning shampoos for brunettes. I used a few last year that made a difference. I think they were called midnight brunette by John Frieda and choco locks by Lee Stafford.

Both are under £10 Smile

I've ordered the shrine 'brunette' drops and will start with 3 drops just to be on the safe side. Will report back!

I love the shrine ones, I've been using the rose toner - used lots more than they said to go very pink but then it faded down very quickly yo a lovely candy floss. Worked well with less drops too for a lower key colour.

They are a lot of fun and easy to wash out so have fun playing! I found they take better on dry hair, and use a silicone free shampoo first to remove any silicone build up to help it distribute a bit better - think it says this on the instructions

Back to work now so sadly washed out all the pink!!

Thought I would report back on the Marion sachets from Amazon. Came out quite well for £2.50. Here’s the before and after.

@Helpimfalling

Oh my lord you've just took me rite back to my early teens.

Not thought about that stuff in years.

I feel really nostalgic now actually.

Weird I never thought wash in wash out would make me feel like that!

I know, I used to spend so much time trying to choose a colour and always came away with a shade of auburn. So nostalgic!
uncomfortablydumb53 · 07/01/2022 10:44

I remember using the harmony one in the triangular box and later Clairol glints in white tubes
I was 14 when I started, and at 57, my natural colour is grey.. use permanent red nowadays!

Wanlight22 · 07/01/2022 11:10

@FormerlySpeckledHen. Oh I loved Hint of A Tint as I wasn't allowed to use permanent dye and they had a nice Dark Brown . I was desperate to dye my mouse black.(Goth!😂). It made your hair smell lovely and go all shiney.
I remember pushing my mum's boundaries wit Harmony one that lasted alot longer ,made my hair a weird purple colour and my mum was raging at me as I managed to dye the bath and ruin a couple of food towels!😂

Wanlight22 · 07/01/2022 11:11

Food ?good towels!😂

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 07/01/2022 14:08

@OddBoots

My DD loves the ]] and they seem to last well.
Another fan of these too
StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 07/01/2022 14:13

@Eternallyfrazzled

Omg in so nostalgic now *@RobertaFirmino* it was harmony in the triangle box I used to used them I dyed my dark blonde hair ginger with them it lasted ages 😂
I remember these, i used to line up everything for a pamper session on a tray to take into the bathroom, so razor, tweezers, scissors for nails, face pack, a harmony colour, beer shampoo, bubble bath and body moisturiser brings back memories!
RobertaFirmino · 08/01/2022 02:26

@WingBingo That really has worked! Your hair is so shiny too - and all for £2.50. It does look nice, I'm glad it turned out well Smile

IWasHotInTheNineties · 08/01/2022 02:38

They were like a gateway drug for me when I was 14. I moved onto the hard stuff like Sun In and turned my hair to straw.

WingBingo · 08/01/2022 08:53

@RobertaFirmino thank you. Washing it for the first time today so hopefully it won’t lose too much colour.

How did you like the brunette Shrine drops? I am thinking of getting some and would love to know how you got on with them.

I have a Marion sachet of dark blonde but after reading more reviews I am too scared to use it lol. Some say they went almost black and others say purple tints !!

yorkshireteaspoonie · 04/02/2022 17:25

@superstar63 mmmm not bad, it did darken and enrich my mousey blonde to a deeper brunette (I bought the brunette) I started with three drops and then next time did ten drops. It def gave shine and deeper colour.

I was thinking about the sachets still as I quite fancy a caramel type colour and shrines does not look very 'toffee' colour ......but I don't want it to go black if I use a sachet !! 😳

Thank you, it does seem that lots of people have very different experiences with the Marion sachets and I would hate to be be one of the unlucky ones. Also some brunette shades of any make seem to be able to have red tones which I would not want.

Did the Shrine drops wash out after a few goes as I am growing out my colour so dont want to end up back at square one if it does not wash out easily but would just like to be able to keep doing it now and then

yorkshireteaspoonie · 04/02/2022 19:27

@superstar63 yes it washed out well, it didn't cover my grey streak (which I actually like) so that was a plus for me and there wasn't a red undertone to in as I def didn't want mahogany tone to my hair

Thank you, I think I will give them a try and start off with a few drops and increase if needed which is a good way to see how it looks without going the whole hog immediately

Gaddasgrl · 15/10/2023 18:13

I frosted my hair and didn't realize that you was to leave the toner in!! And I rinse it out what can I do?
