Any recommendations? Happy to go into a shop or buy online. I like thick black tights (100 denier or similar) and like them to be non-shiny! UK size 20 with a tummy so I prefer them high waisted 😊

Same size as you OP and I love my Snag tights Smile I’ve not had a pair ladder on me yet (despite having a bouncy Labrador puppy) but do agree with previous posters that the higher denier are the longest lasting.

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 29/12/2021 15:42

I have snag tights and yes they do seem to have the best fit and I can pull the body sort right up to under my boobs. Probably even further if I really wanted to.
However I have had issues with fading and getting weird random lines in them after washing.
I use a bag to put my tights in and initially I did wash them by hand and thought that was the issue. The line is like washing powder residue on the crease where they lay flat when not on but I don’t use powder.
I’ve washed them with other items and on their own. They’ve developed holes in the toes as well.
So yes they do fit better than most tights especially if you have a belly, but they aren’t an everlasting miracle. I’d say they are still only good for a few wears before fading.
Ps I’ve only ever brought black ones. I’m sure I have 80 and 120 denier ones.

I like Snag (not mad on their marketing but hey whatever) but I also like Manzi tights from Amazon as they are more like support tights. I have lipedema and so does one of the Snag founders so I like to think they know their stuff.
Popsy do the same sort of tights as well, they're all made in the Lake Garda area of Italy.

@Beigeisthenewblack

Also, 5 cheerleading posts all for Snag within a few minutes of an early morning post asking for recommendations? Hmm No one shops on SimplyBe, in Asda or Evans? You have to wonder.
Well you can add another one here, and feel free to search my posting history!
margotsdevil · 29/12/2021 19:03

Snag are definitely my preferred tights but I'd also look at Popsy, they are similar to Snag in that they are sized in groups working on a mix of height and dress size. Similar longevity too as far as I can tell, but I've not had them as long as my longest serving Snag pairs! I threw a pair out that had developed a hole last week after I think 3 years of service!

Snag another vote

Snag, stretchy, smooth and comfortable

Lol! As I am in my 60's, and have been a plus size for quite a long time now, I feel that I can legitimately give my views on some other brands.

I used to wear M&S tights, they were never great, they always wrinkled at my ankles, and they didn't pull up over my bum and tum properly, so felt horrible, and laddered quite quickly.

I used to wear Evan's tights. They were worse than M&S in all the same ways.

I never wore Asda, Tesco or Sainsbury's tights after I got fat as they just didn't appear to go up to my size.

I discoved snag tights before I realised that SimplyBe might do tights, but why would I bother potentially wasting my money on them, when I love the fit, feel, and colours of my snag tights.

I promise you that I do not get any benefits from snag for waxing lyrical about their tights, or for any other reason. In fact I bought some tights from them in 2020 with delayed receiving of their goods in order to try to make sure that they survived Covid, when no-one needed tights! I did get a benefit from that about 6 months later by being able to have either half as much again, or double the amount (sorry, I can't remember) for one order; but I would have bought in advance with no incentive, as I love their tights so much, and because I respect the ethos behind the company.

One more bit of proof for you, I bought one pair of their leggings (not their footless tights, I like them too), but their black leggings and I thought they were far too expensive for what they are. I also don't like the look of their short fitted skirts - they would look awful on my figure!

Gonna buck the trend here. For everyday Snag are fine and I do wear them lots, but I have a few pairs of Heist for dressier days/nights. The high waist is supportive without being constrictive, they come in size 20-22, and they feel and fit much nicer than Snag. But they are also around £20 a pair for the 80 den. However, mine have lasted for a long time (several winters) and stood up to machine wash on cold very well.

Faevern · 30/12/2021 05:59

John Lewis Egyptian cotton thick and soft and comfortable they also do thermal but that would be too warm for me. Their ribbed ones are nice too. They have long leg length so no crotch slip and are at least waist height. The XL will fit you no bother.

Thanks everyone😊 I ordered some Snag pairs yesterday to see how they are. Should arrive today 👍🏻 I’ll have a look in Sainsbury’s next time I’m in too 😊

@veryveryquietly Never heard of Heist - I’ll have a look😊 I don’t mind paying for decent quality!

@Faevern They sound lovely! Haven’t tried JL ones before actually! Do you have those charcoal ones? I’m assuming they’re grey rather than black?

OP posts:
Faevern · 30/12/2021 08:26

Mine are black though I can't recall if it said charcoal on the packet as I've had them a couple of winters they wash well Grin JL also do opaque cotton touch and velvet touch, body shaper, super shaper, they have quite a selection. So far mine have all been good quality and plenty of room.

FaoinDrualus · 30/12/2021 09:10

I have tried Snag tights, but I don’t like the texture.
My go-to tights in Winter are the M&S Autograph Seam-Free ones. Pricey, but they last me a couple of years and wash well in a net bag with the rest of the laundry.

@Faevern Haha, nice to know they last 😊 I’ll have a look at the rest of their selection!

@FaoinDrualus I’m not sure what type the M&S ones that I have are. I think I ordered online though so I’ll check my orders and see! Are the autograph ones long in the body? I found the ones that I had quite short and I like them longer to cover my belly 🙈🤣

OP posts:
LittleBearPad · 30/12/2021 10:02

Snag!!

I used to spend my time pulling my M&S ones up constantly. I don’t have to do this with the Snag ones.

SparkleWhale · 30/12/2021 10:15

Snag are the only ones I'd recommend. Perfect fit.

Tidypidy · 30/12/2021 12:06

I like Snag but they are not cheap! Following a suggestion on here I've bought Manzi tights from Amazon which work out cheaper than Snag and wear very well. Not the same range of colours but I only need black or navy for work anyway!

FaoinDrualus · 30/12/2021 12:06

@Greys007 Are the autograph ones long in the body?
The seam free ones have a wide high band at the top that keeps them firmly up and stops them from slipping over my apple tummy Blush
I am 5ft3 and don't find they give saggy ankles. However I do have wide calves - too much irish dancing as a child Grin

Buytoomuchonebay · 30/12/2021 12:14

I buy snag but the nude ones are awful
I get one wear out of them and they either ladder or I end up with holes in them
The black are awesome
Never tried the coloured ones
I refuse to pay £6+ for one wear so back to the hunt for nude tights that don’t ladder, don’t sit 3 inches from my gusset or are so orange I look like a satsuma

RuthW · 30/12/2021 12:24

Snag or popsy

RuthW · 30/12/2021 12:26

@RampantIvy

I'm probably in a minority of one here because I don't like most Snag tights colours. Their navy isn't navy but bright blue, not great for my workplace.
You must have got the wrong colour. I'm wearing navy snags today and they are definitely navy
orangejuicer · 30/12/2021 13:59

I've got navy snags and they are definitely navy.

RampantIvy · 30/12/2021 14:05

Maybe the phtography is rubbish then @orangejuicer. These are too bright for navy IMO.

However, on clicking on subsequent images they do look navy. Thank you for pointing it out.
