Is this a really boring dress or is it elegant (or is it something else?)

For a 'dress to impress' do. It fits me really well, like on the model, and the material is really good quality but I'm worried it's too bridesmaids-ey. I'm not much of a fashion-ista but I do want to look a bit sophisticated and not seem like I've dragged out a frock from 30 years ago.

Unless you are young and thin I would worry it will look frumpy, sorry..

The length is quite odd so the fact it’s longer on you is a good thing!

@Helpstopthepain black suede heals like she has on but not open toe. Don't know about the accessories. Probably long dangle earrings but no necklace.

How old are you? It’s not something I would wear, I would say boring over elegant, sorry!

48 so yes the issue is it's too young for me and make me look naff.

I have a v similar dress and love it. I last wore it with thick tights, boots, a cloche hat and a furry bolero. I think it's v versatile and great for the season.

It does NOT matter how old you are.

For inspiration, check out Gudrun Sjoden and some of the stunning older models. Lots of velvet dresses over the years and older women looking brilliant in them. And I hate saying older when realistically, we're talking 40+ most of the time.

Velvet is heavy woven fabric. That looks like velour which is it’s stretchy friend.

With the right accessories it could be stunning, hopefully someone stylish will come along with jewellery and bag suggestions.
