Is this a really boring dress or is it elegant (or is it something else?)

For a 'dress to impress' do. It fits me really well, like on the model, and the material is really good quality but I'm worried it's too bridesmaids-ey. I'm not much of a fashion-ista but I do want to look a bit sophisticated and not seem like I've dragged out a frock from 30 years ago.

@Ted27

I'm 56, I think its a lovely dress, I'd wear it if I didn't have fat arms
It covers a lot of your arms though.

That is one reason I like it!

Not available in my size though Sad

misscockerspaniel · 25/11/2021 12:54

Go for it, it is lovely.

Some clothes do have an age thing (sorry MN Grin) but that dress is ageless.

MynameisWa · 25/11/2021 12:55

Really amazed by the positive feedback thank you everyone.

The empire cut is really flattering and I have to say that it's so comfortable I'd be very confident getting outrageously drunk in it and even falling over a few times. Which I'd never do of course.

I am waiting on an alternative - another 'velvet' type but more suited to an hour glass figure. This is very unlikely to suit me as I'm a rectangle with no waist, but the women who had uploaded their pics in the dress, some of which were plus sizes, looked amazing in it.

I think its beautiful but Im an hourglass and empire line doesnt nothing for me. What is the other option you waiting on?

AMistakePlusKeleven · 25/11/2021 13:16

@MynameisWa

48 so yes the issue is it's too young for me and make me look naff.
Not at all! If it makes you feel good, dress it up with some accessories, some sparkly earrings and a nice bag and enjoy yourself.
idontlikealdi · 25/11/2021 13:26

I think it's perfect.

I'd like to know too!
IsThePopeCatholic · 25/11/2021 15:38

It’s made of polyester, so it could be really shiny and clingy - and maybe a little tacky?

Moonface123 · 25/11/2021 15:58

l absolutely love it, especially the colour. You go for it, you wont regret it. l am 53 and would definately wear a dress like this. Its feminine and beautiful.

TyrannosaurusRights · 25/11/2021 18:57

I think styling is key or it could skew frumpy. It needs boots or something to cut the slightly sweet vibe. Definitely not the shoes they’ve styled it with.

Riverlee · 25/11/2021 18:59

Lovely dress

MynameisWa · 25/11/2021 19:01

Am a bit reluctant to share the hour glass one as I just know it’s gonna seen cheap as it’s from shein and only £24 Grin. Let me see if I can find a pic.

Sorry but my initial thought was that it looks like a nightie Blush

@Blahdyblahbla all views welcome! I have to admit there is a nighty feel about it now you say it I think it’s the sleeves. I’m thinking option 2 has a bit more of an edge?

Absolutely beautiful Smile

Love the first one. Option 2 gives me pangs of nostalgia for my long deceased Grandma’s curtains.

goose1964 · 25/11/2021 21:08

I'd wear it if I could get my boobs in it and I'm heading towards 60

Option one sounds better suited to your shape? My sister who is 5'7 and a size 8 would look fab in the second one but she would never wear it!

YewandOak · 25/11/2021 22:44

Don't like the red one,it looks like a nighty I had as a teen. The green one is gorgeous though

Cocolapew · 25/11/2021 22:51

Red one is lovely

Kennykenkencat · 25/11/2021 22:57

Love the red dress. I think got your size it will suit you well
The black dress is probably for someone who needs to hide some shape or bulge and the green one is all kinds of wrong.
I think it would give me anxiety just looking at someone wear it

Time40 · 25/11/2021 22:59

The red one is absolutely lovely - I'd like that myself! The green one is very nice, too. I think you've got good taste, OP!
