This is a piece I know nothing about, someone here must know, I think it's beautiful

Oh wow, love that and the bracelet too.

That is the Dubai Looped Sapphire Demi Parure, given to Her Maj by Sheikh Rashid in 1979, when she was on a tour of the Middle East.
She was given jewels by the bucket load on that tour, but is said to have exclaimed in amazement when she saw the Dubai gift.

As well as the necklace, there were earrings and a huge ring all set in gold, made by Asprey. Later, the necklace was shortened to sit better on her small frame, and with the spare bits plus the ring, a bracelet and smaller earrings were made.

It's certainly a piece with massive impact!

It's like she always holds back somehow. I wish she'd go for it. I think that's why the gold Bond premier dress was so stunning - she rarely does that.

Also, you don’t know anything about the RF internal politics, petty jealousies, pulling rank etc. For instance, Sophie never seems to wear any stunning jewellery pieces, but perhaps that’s because she’s given the less glamorous, lower profile appearances.
Then there are the complexities of what is gifted to the State, and what is a personal private gift. What will Anne inherit, will she sell it all off like Margaret’s children? All fascinating stuff!

Absolutely! I think it's more complex than we realise. I know that Angela Kelly has a ledger and checks loaned pieces in and out. I do wonder if there are allocations according to rank. Other factors as well, as you say.

Kate's almost the opposite of Maxima when it comes to jewellery. Max likes to layer and layer and then add a bit more for good measure. Kate seems to favour a pared back look although I'm sure what she wears is worth a small fortune.
I wonder if her engagement ring is really what she would have chosen or if she would have gone for something more delicate. Perhaps the Diana ring is the one she wears in public ( a bit like part of her work uniform) and she has one of her own choosing the rest of the time. I don't recall her eternity ring being very ostentatious.

I think Maxima can carry off the jewels and massive hats etc as she seems to have the big personality needed for it. Someone more low key like Kate suits more delicate pieces. Her engagement ring is lovely but considering how turbulent the marriage was, I wonder if she was a bit at it at first!

I think originally Harry had the Diana ring but the brothers later did a swap. Perhaps it's a blessing with hindsight. Can you imagine the even more extreme vitriol towards Meghan if she'd not only stepped back from royal life but taken Diana's engagement ring with her! The DM regularly make digs about her wearing Diana's watch/bracelet/aquamarine ring etc in a "how dare she" way.

The DM are downright weird with their Kate vs Meghan crusade. Meghan wears a red dress and it's "how dare she emulate our beloved Diana who once wore a red dress!" Kate does the same and its "Kate plays loving tribute to Diana".

Or, given that neither ever met their late MiL, maybe they just fancied wearing red and gave no thought to Diana!

I just read that it's Kate's 40th tomorrow so I'm sure there'll be a new photo of her released. I'm predicting one of her with the kids, mucking about in the countryside!

I think it’s probably because we’re used to seeing photos that in many cases have been heavily edited by papers. Portraits will have a different feel.

Honestly I wouldn’t have recognised her. Especially not in the red dress one.

It's these that seem edited.

I do love the pockets though! Not so sure about the Charlie’s Angels hair… but she looks very lovely and happy.

She is usually photographed smiling with her teeth open. Here her smile is completely different.
