I think it's ok to nominate Kate's funeral coat.....part of getting style right is being appropriate for the occasion and I think she got it absolutely spot on.

Eaumyword · 29/12/2021 22:57

You're right, that funeral outfit was the most breathtakingly elegant photo - the closeup with her black mask on and the hat with the veil.

KillingMeDeftly · 29/12/2021 23:09

@Maireas

Good call, MoP. A good one from Max - I think it's elegant and love the shades of green.
Not a fan, looks like she's going to part the Red Sea at any moment!
CliffsofMohair · 30/12/2021 08:01

I’d love to see Max chop the hair a bit

GrouchyKiwi · 30/12/2021 09:40

I like that green outfit, Maireas, though sometimes Max has her hair done so strangely.

I agree with you, she definitely embraces colour and shape and we love the pringle hats, but the hair often disappoints!

Agree re funeral outfit but found the close up a little strange, moreso considering the occasion. So rare for there to be such a close up and for Kate to look straight at camera. Found it odd.

Justkeeppedaling · 30/12/2021 11:41

It was probably a telephoto lens, and she probably wasn't looking at that particular camera on purpose. There would have been lots of camera men there - it was just a lucky shot.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 30/12/2021 11:42

Ah I see, that makes more sense. Seemed a strange occasion for a posed photo.

CliffsofMohair · 30/12/2021 18:34

Nobody calls Leti the Kate Middleton of the continent.
🙄

RomainingCalm · 30/12/2021 21:37

Apologies for the DM link but someone has helpfully curated all of the 70 or so outfits that we've seen Kate wearing this year. It does highlight how little 'glam' we've had in 2021.

I'd forgotten how much I'd liked the pink dress that she wore at Holyrood (to meet the little girl that had been shielding), a couple of the trouser suits and the paisley blouse that she wore recently.

Two standout outfits that, in my opinion, showed her at her casual best... the jeans and white top when she had her vaccination and the tennis outfit! And I agree with PPs that she looked stunning at PP's funeral.

Looking through those pics, I'd say Kate does casual and glam much better than her working day wardrobe, most of those outfits aren't good on her. And I find it frustrating that one, she likes the high round neck, but two, she wears things that don't suit her long torso. I do like the green Wimbledon dress and the all red jumper/pleated skirt combo though.

Eaumyword · 30/12/2021 22:49

I think she looks fabulous most of the time - fave looks are the vaccination jeans, that gorgeous floaty pink princess dress and I also like her in the Rebecca Taylor jacket.

Maireas · 30/12/2021 23:11

Thanks for the link, RomainingCalm.
I think her zoom call looks are the best, smart casual jackets or knitwear. I really don't like the tartan dress with the dropped waist, it's really not flattering at all. The blue coat needs something underneath, I don't like the coat as a dress look that she favours.
But wowsers- the gold dress is fabulous, and she absolutely glows!

KillingMeDeftly · 30/12/2021 23:16

A frugal fashion icon?? I know it's the Fail but come on!

I like her gold dress and the purple suit she wore the day after, plus a few others like the paisley blouse and red pleated dress, and I don't think she's ever looked as modern as she does in her vaccine photo.

But the dropped waist tartan nightmare should be relegated to the back of her wardrobe!

KillingMeDeftly · 30/12/2021 23:22

Does anyone other than Kate west a coat dress? Are they coats she wears as dresses or dresses that look like coats but are made of a more lightweight material? And does one wear anything under a coat dress?

KillingMeDeftly · 30/12/2021 23:28

Wear not west!

Maireas · 31/12/2021 07:24

I don't know, Deftly, I think it's a way of looking more formal than a dress, but just wearing a coat looks odd, even if it's a lighter fabric. That blue coat would look nicer even with a light silk blouse underneath.
I agree about the casual wear.

@RomainingCalm Thank you for the link to Kate's Fashionable Year.
She so often got it right.
That gold dress was spectacular.
One colour I don't think suits her is camel.

Eaumyword · 31/12/2021 08:12

I also chuckled at her being called frugal!
Of course, she can't turn up in jeans for engagements and does lots of rewears, but her annual budget is still more than what most women would spend in a lifetime on clothes.
I've never worn a coat dress - I suspect on anyone less svelte, they might look frumpy?

Completely agree. The best of those looks is the simple cashmere grey jumper with earrings. The gold dress was show stopping, but ruined by her dated hair and earrings. Maybe she was trying to channel a 70s Bond girl vibe who knows 🤷‍♀️ You all know I think her outfits are mostly awful ruined further by terrible accessory choices.
paradyning · 31/12/2021 08:40

And only £43k. Terribly frugal DM. 😂

Given her love of literal dressing, it wouldn't surprise me Grin It was also a bit like Princess Margaret cosplay but Margaret was ultra glam in her day so that's no insult!

Looking at all the pictures of this year's ensembles it's only the ones I mentioned earlier that really stand out for me. Nothing hideous except that tartan dress but a lot that's fairly forgettable.

KillingMeDeftly · 31/12/2021 09:13

I wonder if she does the same as a lot of us do for Zoom calls? Smart from the waist up with joggers and slippers from the waist down!
