I'm not sure really long hair flatters women of a certain age.

I disagree I think lighter hair really suits Kate just as much as the chocolate brown & I like the longer length as much as the shorter length.
However I'd love her to go red not just auburn highlights but a red shade all over.
She'd look great too with deep purple hair but that may be a tad to much for our future Queen!

I wouldn't put Kate anywhere near the best dressed list!
She always looks "nice", and well turned out, but with the odd exception, she's very staid and bland. She dresses how women of 40 dressed in the 1950s - she could be much more "modern" in what she wears, and a bit more "film star-ish".

I think that Kate doesn't want to promote herself as a fashion icon, for various reasons. She's dressing for her role; not flamboyant, edgy or fashion forward. (which can backfire) That's what makes the gold dress so special - she could have gone default safe, but went for glamour!

That gold dress was one of the best celeb gowns of the year but I agree with @Justkeeppedaling.
