@Bearsbearsbears40

Very excited to be going to Kensington Palace this morning for the dresses exhibition! If Kate invites me in for a cup of tea and some of my esteemed fashion advice, I’ll be sure to report back! 😂
Exciting! Please report back! Are you going to wear your Cartier Halo tiara just in case you bump into Kate?.

Well of course! 👸👸

It's not that exciting. There are only three or four dresses.

MotherofPearl · 04/12/2021 12:52

Yes the KP exhibition is a little underwhelming, I agree. I still enjoyed it as a fun day out, and did find it quite something seeing the Diana wedding dress in RL.

Serenster · 04/12/2021 20:22

Zara has released some promotional photos in her role as an ambassador for the Aussie Magic Millions races - both dresses really suit her, showing off her waist and toned legs. I love the multicoloured floral dress in particular - the neck frill on the yellow one is just a tad too much, I think.

Zara is an attractive woman but I'm afraid I think both those dresses are awful on her. She looks so trussed up. The high neck and puff sleeves of the first one make her look very top heavy and unbalanced. High necks just don't work on the larger of bosom.

I like the print of the yellow one but agree about the frilled neck. IMO Zara looks best in jeans, boots and jumpers, or horse riding clothes. That's when she looks at ease.

Maireas · 04/12/2021 21:05

I agree, MoP. The Zimmerman dress seems to be out of proportion with the big puffy sleeves and short bell skirt. I like the yellow print of the Rebecca Vallance dress, but I agree it's a bit fussy.
Mike and Zara both look good, though.

I’m not keen on either of Zara’s dresses, neither the colours nor the styles do anything for her. (I do wish she wouldn’t stand with her legs crossed like that, she seems to do it in almost every photo, it looks awful.)

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 04/12/2021 21:31

Nice photos of Zara & Mike

paradyning · 04/12/2021 21:40

Princess Bea the elder (of Orange) has the 'rona!

paradyning · 04/12/2021 21:42

Hideous dresses on Zara there. Liking the Nine West heels and her hair though.
Mike looks like he's just rolled out of bed

KillingMeDeftly · 04/12/2021 22:12

Agree totally with Zara looking "trussed up"!

RomainingCalm · 05/12/2021 00:12

I think Zara looks her best in casuals.

Neither of those dresses really do it for me, particularly the multicolour floral one. My first glance at the picture in the yellow dress was that she looks so much like a young Princess Anne - in fact I'm sure PA has worn a dress very similar to that one.

Eaumyword · 05/12/2021 00:58

Love Zara's horse! I like her hair but agree she looks far better in casuals. She favours high necks, short hems and ruffles and I just think she looks lovely in sleeker outlines - or jodhpurs!Smile

Bit late this month and a somewhat unusual offering from the Tatler’s Tiara on the Month - The Graff Infinity. Sparkly though 💎

Wow, that is amazing!

LadyEloise1 · 05/12/2021 09:16

@RomainingCalm
I too was struck by Zara's similarity to her mother, Princess Anne in the yellow dress.
I agree that Zara looks better in more casual clothes but that's because Invariably her "dressy" choices are too fussy on her.

latedecember1963 · 05/12/2021 09:32

I would love to see Diana's wedding dress in real life, MotherofPearl.
That's some tiara, Tinitiny! If you scroll a bit further on from that article there's an interesting piece about how Cartier took inspiration from Islamic art and an exhibition about it.

Me too, the resemblance is really strong in photo 2. But Zara never really looks comfortable in more formal clothes - the fit always seems a bit too snug. Much like Meghan, I don't think "royal dressing" suits her and she looks best in more casual styles.

Bearsbearsbears40 · 05/12/2021 10:04

Sorry all, yesterday was so busy that I didn’t get a chance to report back on KP! Yes the dress exhibition is quite small but interesting with the background detail of the ateliers and their work. Diana’s dress was of course the big (literally, with that train!) highlight. The rest of the KP exhibitions are also very interesting including Queen Victoria’s childhood. I hadn’t realised how many family feuds there were at that time…some things never change! 😀

KillingMeDeftly · 05/12/2021 10:08

I went to an exhibition of Diana's outfits at KP a couple of years ago. There were several famous dresses there but not her wedding gown, which I think was at Althorp at the time. It was interesting seeing HMQ's and Princess M's dresses too - such tiny waists!

RockaLock · 05/12/2021 10:21

Princess Aiko's tiara is very pretty!

Blessed Be The Royal Pants, but We Shall Inherit the Tiaras!
KillingMeDeftly · 05/12/2021 10:34

Aiko is now 20 so it means that she can take part in royal duties. She cannot however become Empress. The throne will be inherited by her young cousin.

Her outfit choice for her birthday photo shoot was interesting. I can't figure out if it's matronly and conservative or the latest trend in normcore! There's an art school near me and some of the students do wear similar clothes.

You’re right about the tiny waists. One of the guides told us that the wedding dress hadn’t been looked after very well at Althorp, it had had insects trying to eat the bottom of the train so they’d had to deep clean it on its return - I couldn’t see any obvious damage so maybe they did a few repairs on it.
Maireas · 05/12/2021 10:51

Thank you, @Tinitiny for that link. That tiara is absolutely stunning.
I remember seeing a picture of Princess Anne back in the 70s wearing a yellow ruffle necked dress. I'm relying on TracyBeaker and her internet magic to find that image!
HM and Margaret both had very tiny waists. It's a shame that Diana's dress wasn't preserved well from the outset.
