General “Waifs and Strays” Beauty Advent Calendar opening thread

As last year, I suggest we use this as a general beauty advent calendar thread for everyone with beauty calendars that may not be covered by other threads or who prefers a general thread. I’m opening FM, Harrods and M&S this year, and will aim to post on both this and the M&S threads.

Please can no-one post any spoilers before 7am on the relevant day.

Just over a week to go. I’m really looking forward to it!

My Rituals calendar is the Ritual of Hammam shampoo so I think you have got a mix up .

My Rituals one is shampoo too. I am hoping for conditioner tomorrow!

I've got the conditioner, would rather have had the shampoo!

A serum and a moisturiser. The ginger serum looks interesting. I wasn't sure initially whether I needed to ingest it or what, because of the word shot and the picture on the box. Anyway, it claims to work miracles by brightening dark spots and uneven tone. I don't have dark spots but evening tone would be great.

The moisturiser looks good too - all natural, super hydrating and has an spf.

Boots No 7 - lip pencil which I'll be using

Degusta - Pasta which of course we'll eat but not very exciting

ASOS is a large 100ml tube of Revolution glycolic polisher. I’ve never tried this brand and am happy to give it a go.

JL is This Works Deep Sleep pillow spray which I’ve used before and is a good product, though one I rarely remember to use.

The Rituals Village today is Ritual of Mehr body-mousse to oil (orange and cedar wood scented). The instructions say apply mousse to skin, no need to rinse off. I assume it turns to oil (?!), will give it a go this evening.
Todays museli is Almonds with crispy vanilla flavored flakes. I just had a bowl and it was lovely!

You are really going to struggle to go back to normal breakfasts! They all sound yummy but definitely more dessert than breakfast.

I know you said you have been eating a lot of them at times other than breakfast. That is probably the best plan.

Now I just need to find someone in Germany or Switzerland to smuggle one over to Ireland for ds next year. Or I could just check the local Aldi and be pleasantly surprised.

Elf liquid glitter eyeshadow in 'flirty birdy' is today's Amazon offering. It's a lovely champagney/bronzey shade. I'm quite pleased.

The M and S moisturiser is a good size but is very thick. It reminds me of something from a Holland and Barrett box or calendar from last year. I'll probably use it as an elbow/foot cream instead.

I got the Rituals shampoo too. Hopefully we'll get the conditioner to match another day (I guess you might get two conditioners @petalsandstars ) but I've used Rituals conditioner before and it's lovely!

Sorry to be very late posting today. I had a rare (and it now appears possibly one off ) face to face client meeting today, so was out early.

Day 8 is all about day moisturisers:

Cult 51 Day cream. F&M. Really liked the neck cream in last year’s calendar from this brand, so very happy with this.

Elemis marine cream. Harrods. 30ml so reasonable size. This will definitely get used, good rather than exciting though.

Pure day moisturiser. M&S 2021 Full size, and a decent cream.

Leighton Denny nail polish M&S 2018 Very festive colour, but not something I’ll use much. One to give to DD I think.

On the basis of size and usefulness, 2021 wins today. Tally now 5.5 to 2.5 to 2021.

I’m not going to run out of day moisturisers for a while either!

It is lovely hearing about all the calendars. I was wondering if there is a swap thread? If so I have these two items from Space NK I would be happy to exchange….

Is there a Liberty calendar thread?

Also as a general comment, both of my swaps are from the Space NK calendar. I also have the M&S with no swaps so far and regularly that is my favourite. Considering it was a quarter of the price it’s a big thumbs up for M&S…..

Day 9:

Dr Dennis Gross Extra Strength Daily Peel Harrods. I’ve so far been a bit nervous to try these in the past. I’d be interested to know if others have.

1707 Lilas perfume F&M exclusive perfume. It’s a very pleasant, wearable floral scent which I already have on. Delighted with this.

REN body wash. M&S 2021: So glad it’s this and not the usual tonic. I’m happy enough with the small sizes, as it easily gets used.

REN night cream M&S 2018. Don’t remember trying this before, but good to get a night cream after all the day creams yesterday.

I think a REN tie for M&S today: so 6 to 3 now in the face off

@westr, I don’t think there is a Liberty thread this year, but please do post on here in you’d like to chat about it.

@festivefuschias, I agree it’s a bit quieter this year. I think there is a wider spread of calendars than ever this year, so that only the M&S thread has loads of people opening the same thing every day.

@CountryCob, yes, I am much in need of friendly escapism right now with some really stressful things going on family and work wise, so I really enjoy the frivolous chat, be it beauty or muesli

@AprilLady I have tried the daily peels as I got them in a GWP a few months ago. They were nice enough and made my skin feel good but I didn't notice any visible differences (probably need to use more than 3 for that) and haven't bothered to repurchase as I have other products I prefer. Overall worth giving a go though!

I’ve not noticed up to now @AprilLady, but I’ve not seen a Liberty thread either! Who’d have thought it? Just 2 or 3 years ago Liberty seemed to be one of the two major threads, alongside M&S. How times (and calendar contents expectations) change.....

Tomato sauce from Degustabox today, to go with yesterday's pasta. I got the shampoo in Rituals today to go with yesterday's conditioner, so happy with that.

In todays Rituals village - Ritual of Namaste , Glow anti-aging serum. Its quite tiny, 10mls, so I guess it would only last a few days. Not sure how much anti-aging you would see in a few days, but will give it a go.
Todays museli is Raspberry and dark chocolate - one to have as dessert I think!
