I saw this posted by an incredulous Instagrammer and thought I'd share it here. Words fail me Shock

I love that the model has taken the trouble to wear shoes to finish the look.

Boood · 04/11/2021 11:27

I think the term for this should be Fashion Darwinism.

Bavarois · 04/11/2021 12:11

@foxgoosefinch I was referring to thongs in general, not just this particular high priced one. Nasty uncomfortable synthetic yeast-infection-causing dirty things - why on god’s green earth young women have yet again bought into the idea that thongs are sexy?.. And don’t pretend they’re comfortable, we all know they aren’t

I just find it strange that you're making the sweeping assumption that all young women wear thongs. I personally don't routinely and never have. But sometimes they make an outfit look a lot better, so I wear one. It's hardly an instrument of torture, and if it feels that way it probably doesn't fit. Other peoples' underwear is their business.

I also think most people wear pants under a bodysuit. They technically could be worn without but in general they're worn more like tops than like underwear. A thong under a thong-style body wouldn't show VPL.

foxgoosefinch · 04/11/2021 12:27

@Bavarois love, I’m only 40, not some kind of aged alien. You do know that nobody gave a stuff about “VPL” until the fashion for thongs in the early 2000s? Underwear manufacturers and magazines basically invented it to sell the fashion for thong knickers (which were a rather - specialist - item before then 🤣)

How on earth did we manage with the original bodies and satin skirts in the 1990s (which is where that fashion comes from)? We must all have been shocking the world unwittingly with our visible knicker lines! Shock

In any case, the item above is ugly as sin - leaving aside the thong bum, a khaki cable-knit polyester body? Anyone who is deluded by Fashion into thinking that looks nice is going to wake up in five years time horrified by its sheer ugliness.

It’s happened to us all - remember that the goal of the fashion industry is periodically to convince you that really ugly unflattering clothes look absolutely gorgeous 🤣

LucyGrey · 04/11/2021 12:39

Two things:

Thong and coverage should not be on the same line in the description. Oxymoron.

Im guessing that people who can afford £270 on a top can also afford to wear it once then chuck it.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 04/11/2021 15:15

I gave a stuff about VPL in the 80’s!

And things were invented to go with low rise jeans not really to get round the pvl line.

SirChenjins · 04/11/2021 15:36

I didn’t give a stuff about VPLs in the 80s - wasn’t even on my radar or that of my friends. Thongs weren’t mainstream back then - they were g strings back then!

SirChenjins · 04/11/2021 15:36

Too many back thens..

etulosba · 04/11/2021 16:10

I distinctly remember people giving a stuff about VPL in the 1980s. To the extent of wearing no pants at all.

foxgoosefinch · 04/11/2021 16:17

We definitely didn’t give a stuff about VPL in the 90s. G-strings (as they were then) were only joke items for strippers 😂

(Surely men actively want to see your knicker line anyway, if you care about that kind of thing?)

coogee · 04/11/2021 16:44

Tough. I actively don’t want to see my knicker line.

SirChenjins · 04/11/2021 16:47

You can’t see it - it’s behind you.

foxgoosefinch · 04/11/2021 16:48

Does anyone really care that much about their knicker line? Are you going to the Met Gala or have eyes attached to your bum?! Shock I find it amazing that anyone has the time or spare mental space to be bothered tbh.

coogee · 04/11/2021 18:15

I don’t know about time, but some of us don’t have such tight limits on mental space.

Durbeyfield · 04/11/2021 21:02

Difficult garment.

Alonelonelylonersbadidea · 05/11/2021 16:31

Nearly 300 quid for a woolly thong? I'm buying it! Nice colour too. Would go well under a suit. Then after work schnapps at the local wanker banker pub.

do you speak for all womankind now?

I ONLY wear thongs precisely because they are more comfortable (especially when I'm running or in gym gear) and no, I haven't bought into the idea that they're sexy.

I agree with other posters, this is supposed to be a style and beauty thread but it's turned downright sneery and pious.

BusterGonad · 16/11/2021 13:40

I'm not sure what's so outrageous about it, agreed I wouldn't wear it as I need a bra and my figure is not up to it but I can imagine it's the type of thing to wear to a bar with a pair of jeans and boots. It would be no colder than a normal top. I'm pretty sure it's only dry clean only to cover their backs, viscose poly mix usually just gets chucked in the washing machine. The price is high but that's the cost of such brands.
