Winter is coming... so I thought it was about time we had a thread to share our winter jumper finds.

Picked up this gem in Asda today for £22.

I've just ordered this from Oliver Bonas so hoping it's nice!

@Namechangeforone

Some nice styles but do they honestly keep you warm? 100% polyester and acrylic does nothing for me other than give me sweaty armpits. I just won't buy it anymore. May as well wear another t-shirt.

I've recently bought some cropped cardigans from Arket - a fluffy alpaca blend blend biscuit colour, and one from Hush, black wool blend.

I'm allergic to wool, most of my jumpers are viscose. I live in a centrally heated house, and work in a heated office, I don't need big thick woolly jumpers.

Great thread!

Can anyone help me with finding a funky/colourful jumper or cardigan? Abstract ideally, don't want it to be a ladybird or any particular item also slightly oversized. Not too bright either, dont want to look like a rainbow

ToykotoLosAngeles · 24/10/2021 14:54

I bought this from White Stuff. Normally I buy one Celtic jumper a year but I felt like knocking about £50 off my usual spend!

This is how I feel every winter. I never really know what people are doing on an everyday basis that requires a massive duvet coat plus thick jumper plus thermal leggings and a hat. As soon as I get walking I'm boiled. And I'm from the Pennines! Even when I used to commute by train they had the heating on.

Blossomtoes · 24/10/2021 15:10

I’ve just ordered this. Hope it’s as nice as it looks.

Have you looked on freepeople?

www.freepeople.com/uk/knitwear/

My eyes are watering at the jumper on there for £1000.00 was trying to work out if it’s a typo! It’s merino wool, but a really simple knit to make.

waltzingparrot · 24/10/2021 17:10

Just debating how much wool I could buy for £367 and how many jumpers I could make like this. I am the slowest knitter on the planet though.

I don’t mind spending on winter jumpers but I won’t be buying anymore from Celtic and Co. I’m meticulous about following the washing instructions and the two I’ve got haven’t washed or worn that well - they’ve both gone really baggy round the bottom and one in particular has bobbled quite badly. That said I’ve never had so many compliments as I’ve had for their statement Donegal jumper …..
At the other end of the scale I have no problem with Primark jumpers. Last year I lived day to day in their £10 thick ribbed roll necks - the bobbling on them was no worse that on my Celtic and Co jumpers.
I’ve just splashed out on the Jigsaw fisherman’s knit jumper in a cheery bright green - this will no doubt bobble too but I couldn’t resist the colour.
For anyone thinking about buying something from Celtic & Co there is 15% code with free delivery and returns in todays Sunday Times valid until 31 December. Code AW21ZN

ToykotoLosAngeles · 24/10/2021 20:45

I will admit I've probably only washed my C&C jumpers once each and that was by hand. I wear a top underneath.

SkippettyDoDah · 24/10/2021 20:59

"I'm allergic to wool, most of my jumpers are viscose. I live in a centrally heated house, and work in a heated office, I don't need big thick woolly jumpers."

There no similarity between synthetic materials like acrylic/polyester and a natural fibre viscose. I have hoodies from BAM and they are amazing. I love a proper wool jumper too but not the very chunky styles as I can't get a coat over them.

nearlywed21 · 24/10/2021 21:19

@Squiz81 Thank you, but absolutely not in my budget. I mean, I guess it is but I'd rather spend that on a weekend away etc than 1 item of clothing.

I get that! Some of those are crazy money - the one that is £1000.00 is just ridiculous. I could knit that for much much cheaper even if I included paying myself for my labour.

Try white stuff

Have bought these:

and am thinking of buying this to wear in a similar way as the middle and with black knee high boots.

@IComeInPeace

I want to post a picture of my jumper because it's too hot to wear it still
Oooh I love this, I’ve been looking for a fisherman type jumper 😍

I’m like you I get hot really quick especially as I walk everywhere or go from central heated house to warm car to warm office. Until it’s actually minus figures I actually tend to just wear jumpers when it’s dry and no coat, I’ve had old ladies stop me and ask me if I’m cold though 🤣 nope I have a vest top and long sleeve under this and I am toasty as can be!
trulyconfuseddotcom · 24/10/2021 22:43

Hmmm, I've been eyeing that Celtic one too, looks gorgeous but a bit pricey. I love a fair isle, just bought this one in red and love it! It's wool too, so £49.99 feels a bargain. https://www.houseofbruar.com/lwl-icelandic-crew-tt00702newcountry/?locale=gbp&istCompanyId=facab9df-87a0-4360-a00c-69f8b6f60974&istFeedId=e1385490-e58f-4fe4-b510-6708df5ec276&istItemId=pwmwrraqm&istBid=t&src=webshp&gclid=Cj0KCQjwiNSLBhCPARIsAKNS4cFDDtGti96OqWEQlYD73TjyI7MOLojNlSabnn4zzTPFR2ZiUlnK8aAhnPEALwwwcB

Just placemarking because there are so many good links on here. I’ve already seen about ten I want to buy!

I'm place marking as well ,I want them all lol.

shallIswim · 26/10/2021 08:48

Have just spliced on 3 from Celtic (haven't bought anything fencer for a few years so due). They all say gentle hand wash ok. But I want o avoid if possible to keep their shape. Does anyone put jumpers in the freezer to 'refresh' them and does it work?

Sooverthemill · 26/10/2021 09:01

@Squiz81 although I also think £1000+ is too much, those are hand knitted using top quality yarn. I am a knitter and often pay £130+ for yarn to knit something that takes me 40 hours to complete. I 'happily' pay up to £200 for a high quality knit ( I absolutely understand that most people wouldn't be able to). Otherwise you can often pick these up preloved. So good quality non mulesed wool, merino, alpaca, mohair, lambs wool hand dyed are expensive. If you need non wool ( which I do except merino) then bamboo, tencel, linen, decent viscose, cotton are good alternatives

I don't freeze. But wash knitwear rarely, instead I air Knitwear for 24 hours and hang a lavender sachet in the wardrobe and use cedar balls in between jumpers. I use 'soak' wash from Amazon when I have to. Roll in a towel. Dry flat reshaping a little
