Talk clothes to me, baby. I have questions.

Thought I'd put a couple of things in one post, rather than starting different threads.

So:

I want some khaki jeans/trousers of some sort. Has anybody tried the M&S balloon leg jeans? Are they ridiculous?

I want a dress that will take me from sightseeing to a nice restaurant. Dark, ideally printed, non-crap fabric, sleeves. To be worn with a leather jacket. Quite fancy something shorter than all the midi stuff out there. Maybe black or burgundy.

I want a casual black or printed pencil skirt, to wear with a knotted t-shirt and ankle boots. The sort of thing Whistles used to do really well.

Trainers - sick to death of white Stans. What's as comfortable but more suitable for autumn?

I think that's all.for now! 😂

No advice but wanted to chip in today how much I am hating all the midi shit out there. Midi shit and shapeless, ugly dresses everywhere.
Your style icons are Kate bloody Middleton or the Amish.

pictish · 03/10/2021 09:34

I am looking for a going out dress. Not having any luck. Midi midi midi. Maxi maxi maxi. Mini mini mini.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 03/10/2021 09:42

Pictish😂

I think midis have a place, but most of the fabrics are just awful. I'd prefer not to be highly flammable or to rustle, as I go about my business.

Nobody?

Not even the trainers?! Grin

Floisme · 03/10/2021 21:39

I can't help with trainers Remus I don't own a single pair butI've got the M&S balloon jeans in grey and I really like them, in fact I nearly went back to get the khaki too.
My only criticisms are that the sizing's very random so I would go and try on if you can. And secondly they're not the most substantial denim ever so I'm not sure how long they'll last (though to be fair I've worked them pretty hard this summer). But for the price I think they're a good buy.

TuftyRusty · 03/10/2021 21:45

Would a jumper dress work for the dress - something like this? www.johnlewis.com/and-or-maxine-knit-jumper-dress-burgundy/p5737933
I could see it with tights, boots and leather jacket.

I’m also not a fan of midi! I’m tall, 5 ft 10 and midi just makes me feel like I look like I got a maxi that’s too short for me Blush I love it on other people though.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 03/10/2021 21:49

Thank you.

Flo - Nice to see you! I'll go and try the jeans on.

Tufty - I like that dress, but I don't/won't wear acrylic, unfortunately.

I hated the balloon jeans, I’m a 12 on the bottom and they swamped me. I love the allsaints Rina dress, got it in black and burgundy. Long sleeves, wool and above the knee with a super flattering ruching on the side. Was on sale on asos but weird sizes left. I never wear stans anymore, I got some great new balance 564s on style runner.

mewkins · 03/10/2021 22:10

My only help is on the trainer front. I have some black Vans hi tops with a gum sole. I like black trainers and I like these as they keep my feet a bit warmer. Grin

TuftyRusty · 03/10/2021 22:10

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie

Thank you.

Flo - Nice to see you! I'll go and try the jeans on.

Tufty - I like that dress, but I don't/won't wear acrylic, unfortunately.

Ah yes, hadn’t really checked the material!
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/10/2021 00:48

Thanks.

Vans don't work for me - too wide.

NewMum - the reason I didn't try the jeans on when I saw them was that the legs looked really wide. I'll try them on but think I need something narrower, ideally.

ShrikeAttack · 04/10/2021 03:37

Well this is the non-crap fabric burgundy dress I've bought this Autumn. Is quite long and none-patterned though.

Trainers? I'm not into fancy nonsense. Keep it simple stupid! these are minimalist and good.

ShrikeAttack · 04/10/2021 03:43

My dress link didn't work. Trying again

KateLumley · 04/10/2021 08:29

I am trying to decide if I can justify the cost of this or this. I don't do acrylic either.

Can't help with trainers, my latest purchase is from the ugly shoe company Hotter, as I am on my feet all day for work.

MrsMaiselsRedCoat · 04/10/2021 08:52

I'm not a fan of white trainers, I have a couple of pairs of New Balance 574's which look great and are so comfortable. I also have a pair of golden goose high tops which I absolutely love, although I appreciate they are a bit 'marmite'. I love any high top though, I think they are due a moment.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/10/2021 08:56

I don't want white trainers. I want something Autumn appropriate, ideally that I can wear with tights. I'll have a look at New Balance.

Shrike - your budget is quite a lot higher than mine, it seems! Grin. The dress is nice, but not at all the sort of thing I'm after.

Kate - your links just go to the main page.

Thanks, everyone.

Not a fan of slip on trainers, sorry. I do like the 'Park Run' ones on R&B site a lot, but they are silly money.

OP posts:
KateLumley · 04/10/2021 08:58

Okay, trying again www.repeatcashmere.com/uk/a-line-knitted-merino-wool-dress-w211-uk-414.html

KateLumley · 04/10/2021 08:59

HmmI am trying to link the A line merino dress.

MalfunctioningRobot · 04/10/2021 09:11

I’ve recently got these trainers www.reebok.co.uk/classic-leather-legacy-grow-shoes/H05078.html?cm_mmc=ReebokSEM_GPS--GS-OPT-UK-medium%20stock-Categories-SubBranded--SUBBRAND%20-%20lifestyle-_-PRODUCT_GROUP&cm_mmca1=UK&cm_mmca2=&ds_agid=58700006497372060&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI4enM-6aw8wIVB-7tCh2z_QelEAUYASABEgLCIPD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Not technically ‘got’ them yet, I’ve bought them as a Christmas present to myself, but have looked at them and tried them on. I really like them.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/10/2021 09:31

Some lovely things on that site, Kate, although none of the knitted dresses are what I'm after. I want a lighter weight mini-iso dress, with a print.

OP posts:
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/10/2021 09:31

mini-ish

OP posts:
Floisme · 04/10/2021 09:32

Flo - Nice to see you!
You too Remus, hope you're well!

taybert · 04/10/2021 10:34

Dare I mention Hush for dresses? I’ve not seen any in real life but I’ve got my eye on a couple and in my experience hush dresses tend to be pretty good, I’ve got a few that have had plenty of wear and haven’t shrunk/turned to rags like a lot of my other hush stuff.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/10/2021 14:42

Some of the styles/prints of Hush dresses appeal, but their sizing and quality so hit and miss that I just cba with ordering.
