Talk clothes to me, baby. I have questions.

Thought I'd put a couple of things in one post, rather than starting different threads.

So:

I want some khaki jeans/trousers of some sort. Has anybody tried the M&S balloon leg jeans? Are they ridiculous?

I want a dress that will take me from sightseeing to a nice restaurant. Dark, ideally printed, non-crap fabric, sleeves. To be worn with a leather jacket. Quite fancy something shorter than all the midi stuff out there. Maybe black or burgundy.

I want a casual black or printed pencil skirt, to wear with a knotted t-shirt and ankle boots. The sort of thing Whistles used to do really well.

Trainers - sick to death of white Stans. What's as comfortable but more suitable for autumn?

I think that's all.for now! 😂

Yeah it’s a fair point. I boycott them every so often but when they decide to use decent quality fabric and an actual human shape instead of a random animal as a tailor’s mannequin then I do really like their stuff. I’m very selective about what I keep from there nowadays though so it is hassle.

Lucked · 04/10/2021 15:24

They are nice and good quality but agree sizing is off compared to other M&S clothing. Very neat at the waist.

Lucked · 04/10/2021 15:31

For shorter dress I have lots from whistles and looking at the website they have some styles in stock at the moment, they are rather shapeless but that suits me and look good with leather jacket and boots.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/10/2021 15:39

I found a couple I like on Whistles, except the necks are really high.

Balloon jeans - I didn't get on with the M&S ones. I found the 10 was neat, and the 12 huge, but that could have been the colour I chose, which actually was the khaki. My favourites are the Whistles barrel leg, and the Levi's high-loose-taper jeans, but they are significantly more expensive.

Dress and skirt - can't help there.

Trainers - if you like Stan Smiths, would the black leather ones work? I wear those with dresses/skirts with opaque tights, as well as with jeans/trousers. I also like the Adidias Continental 80s, and Veja Esplar.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/10/2021 15:48

Thanks, Judy. It doesn't sound as if the jeans are going to work for me, but I will try them.

I've already got black leather Stans, but I only like them with a couple of outfits (fake leather mini, black tube skirt). They look terrible with jeans.

Have a look at Seazne for dresses

UniBallEye · 04/10/2021 15:55

Sezane

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 04/10/2021 16:19

I think the black Stans work well with a loose jean, so you might find they get a new lease of life! I like them with black 501 crops too.

BusterGonad · 04/10/2021 18:04

Mango have got some nice short dresses. Mostly viscose, a few polyester so obviously not what you're after. They have some lovely prints this year.

ProfessorInkling · 04/10/2021 18:53

I watch threads like this with glee Grin I want all these things too. Except the jeans actually. Am considering giving jeans up forEVER I think they always look crap on me.

This is not a) above the knee or b) printed but it IS merino and affordable. Can’t vouch for it but it’s on my to-purchase list. www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/product/women-3d-knit-seamless-extra-fine-merino-fitted-dress-444024.html

That's nice. I definitely fancy something short, though.

I like that for a night time/Christmas party type thing. Not what I need but definitely nice.

Boden dress but neckline prob too fussy

https://www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/smocked-detail-jersey-dress-midnight-garden/sty-d0038-grn?cat=C1S22_G360

blodynmawr55 · 04/10/2021 20:32

Another Boden option with likely non ideal neckline

https://www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/clara-jersey-dress-black-floral-leaf/sty-d0023-blw?cat=C1S22_G360

Maybe try browsing past season clearance for less annoyingly necked dresses?

Cheermonger · 04/10/2021 20:47

Lauren Laverne had this dress on the other day and I love it. Might be too long for you though www.nancymac.co.uk/collections/all-things-autumnal/products/sable-dress-in-boheme-bloom-print-crepe-2

Cheermonger · 04/10/2021 20:50

Trainers maybe airforce 1’s

Cheermonger · 04/10/2021 20:54

These jeans are really nice, I ordered them from Next but they were too small for my large arse www.mintvelvet.co.uk/product/houston-khaki-slim-cargo-jeans/33841

MildlyMiserable · 04/10/2021 21:08

I was gifted these www.nike.com/gb/w?q=women’s%20daybreak&vst=Day in black for my birthday, most comfortable trainers I’ve worn in years.
No help with anything else I’m afraid as WFH and layering up to stave off the cold!

Squiz81 · 04/10/2021 21:39

How about this dress

www.wearethought.com/deverell-bamboo-modal-printed-tie-front-pleated-dress-in-black/

I’ve got a couple of dresses from Thought and I've been pleased with the quality

I came to say Mango had a nice burgundy mini dress but @BusterGonad beat me to it.

Asos had some ruched style skirts which reminded me of Whistles.

MavisMonkey · 04/10/2021 22:42

Maybe a bit too casual but I like this skirt
