@WellTidy that's more like the number that I think that I use. Will set up a spreadsheet next year to see! 🤓

I have quite a few moisturisers that are 30ml or under which I will probably get through quite quickly. Cleansers and shower gels I also seem to get through quickly.

It's serums, eye creams and face masks that seem to last me a long time, so I have a backlog of these. Makeup also lasts me a long time. I don't use a lot, and so many items expire before I use them. Need to have a good sort out and chuck some stuff out!

SlatternIsMyMiddleName · 26/12/2021 14:02

@MidnightMeltdown interesting that you mention make up expiring. I have some fab Chanel eyeshadow that I know is approx 20 years old. I have used it regularly throughout that time and is still not finished.

I’m a firm believer that if it looks alright, smells fine and still does what I want it to do, I’ll carry on using it.

MidnightMeltdown · 26/12/2021 14:45

@SlatternIsMyMiddleName yes I think that powder based products are usually ok. Not so sure about liquid based products though. I have a number of foundations, and I rarely wear it as I don't love the look or feel of it on my skin. Some look like they have separated. Don't think that I'll buy anymore.

I find that lipsticks can go bad too.

Eyeliners, eyeshadows, powders and blushers I will use forever (although I probably shouldn't with eyeliner!).

AprilLady · 26/12/2021 16:54

Hi all. Rejoining you as a I really need to concentrate now on using things up for a while and not acquiring any more.

I like the idea of a monthly target. My aim is going to be 15 products per month, of which at least 3 should be full sized. I’ll count anything across skincare, make-up, haircare, bath, body and fragrance, but won’t include single use sachets etc. I will also aim to use at least one single use face mask and eye mask per month.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 26/12/2021 17:56

I've finished a Sally Hanson MIricle Cure nail treatment, I've another ready to go. I had this one for years and years.

Christmas has bought me a fair number of new products via advent calendar and a lovely Soap and Glory set (which has the vitamin C facewash in it!).

SlatternIsMyMiddleName · 26/12/2021 20:46

I have just put my new stash away. I don’t need a new lotion or potion for quite some time.

PomRuns · 26/12/2021 22:08

I’ve updated my lists - my aim is not to buy any toiletries 6 months (ha!).
I have 23 face creams - done are only 20mls but still ..,

MidnightMeltdown · 27/12/2021 00:48

@PomRuns I need to try not to buy for 6 months too. My willpower is terrible when I spot a good deal on something I like. I buy it whether I need it or not! Really need to get out of that habit.

I also have a lot of face creams. Haven't done an inventory yet, but I reckon around 20 if including small sizes. Definitely enough to last the whole of 2022 without needing to buy any!

I have 5 different face creams open at the moment Confused. Only one is a 50ml though.

SlatternIsMyMiddleName · 27/12/2021 00:52

I just updated my inventory - it is an attempt at making myself accountable.

MidnightMeltdown · 27/12/2021 01:31

I have two empties to report. Probably my final ones of 2021:

Oskia Renaissance Cleansing gel - ok but not my favourite. It's very oily when you first put it on, and is supposed to emulsify when you add water, but it doesn't do this very well. It's not brilliant at removing makeup either - I noticed that my Micellar water picked up quite a lot after using this cleanser. Baring in mind that I rarely wear foundation or eyeshadow, it's not what I would expect from a cleanser in this price range. The eve lom gel cleanser is a lot better than this (although it doesn't smell great!). I have another one in the stash that I will use, but I wouldn't buy this.

Elvive Dream Lengths Restoring Shampoo - I ordered a value multipack of these during the first lockdown when I wasn't going out. It's perfectly fine (I find that all shampoos in this price range have pretty much the same effect on my hair, so I just buy whatever's on offer), but I'm a bit bored with it now and still have a couple left in the stash...

Caggie09 · 28/12/2021 09:09

My first empties in ages, im quite excited to get back into the swing of things. Im also going to do a huge declutter of shampoo at some stage.

  • Caudalie Moisturising mask. This was my weekly treat on a sunday eve. A nice cream mask, with a comforting scent. It just propped my skincare up for thr evening and my skin felt plump the next day. I cabt find it anywhere, so will be looking for something similar omce im through other masks!
  • Treaclemoon cinnamon salt. Was used in my Christmas day bath. I think i prefer bits from lush, rather than this sort of stuff. Nothing special.
  • Body shop vanilla pumpkin body butter. If i had to pick any body product for life, it would be BS. I just love them, ths scents are a bonus. Vanilla pumpkin is my all time fave. Just so cosy in the Autumn🔥
  • Diptyque Do Son mini sample. Such a sentimental fragrance for me. I have repurchased a full size. I also need to use up some of these mini samples, so will be doing that this week!

Experiment627 · 28/12/2021 11:16

I have an empty:

  • Astral intensive moisturiser original face and body: love this - cheap and effective as a body lotion
OP posts:
daisyjgrey · 29/12/2021 08:52

Three empties -

Olaplex shampoo x1 and Olaplex conditioner x2. I've used exclusively (bar two ad hoc washes at someone's house) Olaplex for about two years now and have gone from red to blonde in the last six months with its help. I've come to the conclusion that I don't think I'll bother buying the shampoo again and will replace with a regular purple shampoo to help tone the blonde but the Olaplex conditioner is a definite repurchase. The two washes I didn't use it my hair was noticeably worse. The conditioner is currently worth the £.

I do have an PK elasticiser to try which I'm interested in, although the price points are much different from Olaplex.

Experiment627 · 29/12/2021 11:11

Two empties:

  • Heno de Pravia deodorant roll-on: iconic Spanish scent
  • Revolution bond restore treatment: I think this is designed as a dupe Olaplex... having never used Olaplex not sure how this compares but nothing amazeballs happened to my hair... that said I rarely left on for 15 minutes

I’m on a roll….

Soap and Glory, the scrub of your life - far too sweet smelling. There are much nicer scrubs out there.

Benefit, total moisture - I love this. The only reason I’m not immediately repurchasing is that I have a few things in the stash to get through.

Ponks · 30/12/2021 21:22

A good end of year clearout:

  • Bumble & Bumble Sunday shampoo, brilliant for a deep clean or after swimming, very pricy but I'll repurchase after using up a couple of other shampoos.
  • M&S Pure gel face wash, didn't like this due to the smell and it occasionally made my eyes sensitive. Lasted ages as you only need a tiny amount, I'm so glad to have finished it!
  • Aldi avocado eye cream: meh, just a light cream, wouldn't bother buying again.
  • Votary intense overnight mask sample: was interested to try this as the brand gets a lot of love from bloggers and is in spendy advent calendars. However this didn't suit me, my eyes streamed after putting it on my face ( not round my eyes).
  • Augustinus Bader Rich Cream: again interested to try as it's always in the luxury calendars. Initially thought oooh such a lovely texture but it didn't sink in that well . I'd happily accept as a gift but not purchase myself.
  • Medik8 Balance moisturiser: this was a Black Friday freebie last year, I wouldn't have bought an oil free moisturiser. It's actually a lovely light moisturiser with a fresh citrus smell and I was pleasantly surprised. It came with a small Glycolic acid serum for weekly use, which I thought was slightly strange but was also nice to try.
  • NYX Bare With Me brow gel, ok and a lovely small brush. Would buy again.

For 2022 I'm concentrating on the stash , which has grown due to Black Friday and Christmas presents. I really want to curb my acquisitive nature and stop buying stuff I don't need just to try to cheer myself up. My DH was made redundant just before Christmas so there's a financial factor too. Luckily there are so many excellent products around at reasonable prices.
So here's to 2022 and a new positive mental attitude!

SlatternIsMyMiddleName · 30/12/2021 23:32

@Ponks sorry to hear about your DH’s job situation.

simaer · 31/12/2021 10:06

I'm rejoining this thread, my stash is getting out of control so I need some accountability to work through it.
I've managed to work through quite a lot this week, I'm going to post each week. I'm starting with my smaller sizes and it gets rid of quite a few quickly.
My aim is only to buy what I need this year.

This weeks haul-
Augustinus Bader The Face Oil- only a tiny sample of this so can't comment on its benefits but felt really nice on the skin, not too greasy.
Origins Powerful Lifting Cream- Not sure it lifted anything, but a really nice, thick, moisturising cream, I used it pm.
Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm- I really liked this, worked really well. This would be really good if you find the scent of other cleansing balms too much as it was scent free.
No7 eye cream - got this in a gift set las Xmas and it's been pretty good, my skin get a little dry under the eyes and this has sorted that better than some more premium brands.
Clinique lipstick - no staying power but used over the Xmas hols as it's good for moisturising my lips.
M&S Fragrance Society hand cream - consistency fine but smell too much, not unpleasant but too strong.
Saner Shampoo - got this as a freebie, it's fine.

No RPs but that's mainly because I have a ton of similar products to work through.
