We have a couple in Canada but they’re not very exciting or good value. Liberty ships, a couple of others too, but the customs would be worse than the postage. There seem to be lots in the US though, but same duties issue.

I usually come over once a year with hand luggage and get someone’s crappy old suitcase for the way home. It’s usually books and chocolate so probably a similar weight 😂

JunieSpoony · 25/10/2021 02:57

I think advent calendars in general might be à British thing. When I first moved here 14 years ago there weren’t even many chocolate ones. Lots more now though.

Justilou1 · 25/10/2021 07:48

@JunieSpoony - they’re not really a thing here in Australia here either. (Unless you count the cardboard jobs with the tacky pictures and the cheap and nasty chocolate that tastes like candles wax.)

Justilou1 · 25/10/2021 07:54

*Apologies for gratuitous use of “here”. It’s all going off around here. Pretending to listen to teenage social sagas (lots of “mmmmhmmmm”ing and sage nodding during the very few pauses to draw breath) during a Wrath of God thunderstorm. Simultaneously trying to dissuade the 56kg fluffy canine chicken on my lap that inside my tank top is not her safe place.

VanillaSpiceCandle · 25/10/2021 11:13

Hello! Would love to join after reading the thread. I’ve been making note of all the toiletries and make up I’ve been using up since 2019 on my notes app on my phone after I realised I was buying far too much of everything.

I’m much better now but a lot of that is not buying anything during lockdown as I like to swatch/sample in the shop. I was very tempted to buy the Space NK advent calendar this year as I’ve never bought one before but dithered and it went out of stock. Probably a blessing in disguise.

Currently working on getting through GWP and samples of skincare. Quick to get through and cross off the list but take up a lot of storage space/easily get lost.

VanillaSpiceCandle · 25/10/2021 11:14

*2018. And last hear I used up a total of 112 products. Full size, GWP, travel and sample size. Everything counts!

Justilou1 · 25/10/2021 11:32

Welcome @VanillaSpiceCandle! Perfect name for this time of year!!!

VanillaSpiceCandle · 25/10/2021 12:30

Thanks @Justilou1 I’ve learnt a lot about SPF from your posts in that I don’t wear near enough on my face. Body and face on holiday are covered and I’m very liberal with the sunblock factor 50 but rely on my face cream and foundation usually. Need to step it up!

MidnightMeltdown · 25/10/2021 13:16

@Justilou1 and @JunieSpoony

That's interesting. I always just assumed that other countries would have their own versions. Now I know why there seem to be so many excited Aussies on YouTube with advent calendars from Net-a-Porter, Space NK etc 😂

SocksAndTheCity · 25/10/2021 13:26

@VanillaSpiceCandle I am envious of your notes! I wish I'd done the same - I'm sure I read a few threads back that one or more posters have actual spreadsheets and I was EnvyGrin

I have just finished a bottle of the green Lacura shower gel, which is just like the Radox one but runnier. I decant it into the Radox bottles for the hanging hook and nobody ever notices.

MidnightMeltdown · 25/10/2021 13:31

Welcome @VanillaSpiceCandle

I'm also trying to get through a ton on minis that have been hanging around for ages. I usually put them aside for travel, but because of the pandemic and travelling very little, they haven't been used up.

Spreadsheets?! I have one for clothes, why have I never thought of one for beauty products?

VanillaSpiceCandle · 25/10/2021 13:41

@SocksAndTheCity @MidnightMeltdown thank you! I started it to keep track and keep motivated and to try and find out what I don’t use up often to try and reduce the number of multiple toners I have. Still haven’t found one which actually does anything Confused I also note if I want to repurchase. The system works for me but this thread is much more fun!

Experiment627 · 25/10/2021 14:03

Seriously @Justilou1 you have just a turn of phrase!!

Welcome @VanillaSpiceCandle !!!

Excuse me @JunieSpoony a spreadsheet for clothes??? Wow! Although that said I did start using an app to track my clothes but I never really got in to it.

Oh boy @VanillaSpiceCandle - I do go on about sunscreens, don’t I? They are a favourite of mine!

Experiment627 · 25/10/2021 15:10

oopsie @Justilou - I meabt "such a turn of phrase" - was a compliment!

OP posts:
JunieSpoony · 25/10/2021 15:22

@Experiment627 It all began in a notebook when I was 15 or 16 and started buying my own clothes. I wanted to make sure I wore the things I'd paid for!

One empty today: Garnier micellar water (pink).

WellTidy · 25/10/2021 15:41

Thanks for the views on olaplex and the Garnier banana hair mask. I really rate the olaplex no. 3 so I think I will RP and just the banana hair mask alongside.

On a roll with my empties now - 30ml Molton brown pink pepper shower gel which I used all in one go as a bath foam. Easy! We live in a very hard water area so I get through bath foam and shower gel so quickly. It’s the only think that I consistently have only one or a few of.

VanillaSpiceCandle · 25/10/2021 19:58

@Experiment627 thank you and hello!

@Justilou1 only as much as I’ll be talking about anti shine/oil reducing/blemish removing everything. As I have tried it all Grin

@JunieSpoony that is such dedication. I’ve got a Christmas spreadsheet which I’ve had since 2015 and that’s only updated at the end of the year.

My first empty is the Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair! Strengthening Treatment Hair Oil. Got a sample from Cult Beauty. It’s very very concentrated and I had a 2ml sample and got about 8 uses out of it. Left me with visible oil and weighed my hair down. But if you have thick or curly hair this would be wonderful. I have baby hair which is blonde so didn’t work for me unfortunately.

SocksAndTheCity · 25/10/2021 20:15

I have that same hair oil sample in my stash @VanillaSpiceCandle and it sounds perfect for my hair so I've resolved to dig it out.

In return, I have a tube of Honest Beauty Everything matte primer from a GWP which is fabulous stuff for total de-shining; I pat a bit on my nose and forehead by itself or over makeup (I found it pilled a bit if put on first) and it's like magic Smile.

JunieSpoony · 25/10/2021 22:30

@SocksAndTheCity I am buying that primer ASAP!

Justilou1 · 26/10/2021 00:08

@Experiment627 - Thanks for the compliment, gorgeous! I took it that way, don’t worry! 😃
@JunieSpoony and @VanillaSpiceCandle - you two wouldn’t happen to be Virgos, would you? (I’m not actually a connoisseur of astrology, btw, not by a long-shot. This one seems to ring true of virtually all my über-organised, spreadsheety friends who always deflect my very impressed (jealous) compliments by saying “Oh it’s a Virgo thing.”)

JunieSpoony · 26/10/2021 01:30

Haha @Justilou1, I’m Pisces actually Wink. I was a lonely list maker pre-internet but apparently there are lots of people like me. 🙂

Justilou1 · 26/10/2021 03:16

@VanillaSpiceCandle - your Breogeo review just saved me some serious $$$. Very expensive here. I have baby fine blonde hair (I call it cat hair) with same tendencies. I was going to try it next, but will stick with my L’Oreal Bond Repair, which I have been told is the best for blonde hair. (There were science words used to explain why, but they were translated into “Wah Wah Wah” instrumental sounds like the teacher in Peanuts cartoons.) *If you do ever try it, you need to follow it with your usual conditioner for some reason. Again… 🤷🏼‍♀️

Experiment627 · 26/10/2021 07:49

@Justilou1 🤣🤣🤣🤣
