Day time dresses and white trainers - what do you wear on your feet?

I met up with my friends for brunch recently and we were all wearing dresses with white trainers. I hadn't realised how much of a "thing" it was so when we wandered around town afterwards I noticed that most women in dresses were also wearing white trainers! Is it because we're used to comfy wfh slippers and trainers are more comfy than sandals/flip flops? What do you wear with your day dresses?

Either white converse or cheaper converse lookalikes in a colour that's in whatever dress I'm wearing.
Or ballet pumps. Or flat ankle boots.

Iamclaracowbell · 05/09/2021 08:39

Birkenstocks or Teva flatform sandals. I think the white trainer thing has been done to death and is a bit twee tbh

HarryBoa · 05/09/2021 08:45

I love white trainers and converse with dresses on other people but feel like I'm trying too hard when I wear it, so I tend to wear flats - black or leopard. Only with longer dresses and skirts. With midi length I wear slightly chunkier flats or boots.

HelloDulling · 05/09/2021 08:47

Birkenstocks in summer, ankle boots in winter.

ActonSquirrel · 05/09/2021 08:48

I usually wear comfy sandals if it is warm enough.

Other than that or if I have loads of walking to do, some form of adidias trainer.

Seriously it's fine. Of all the trends out there, it is one of the nicest Grin

I read on another thread that the 80s horror of mom jeans and brightly coloured boots is back.

RampantIvy · 05/09/2021 08:48

At nearly 63 I would feel like I'm a sheeple trying too hard wearing white trainers, so I have some grey converse look alike which look nice with my dresses.

RampantIvy · 05/09/2021 08:49

I wear sandals if it is warm enough. I hate wearing trainers in hot weather.

LegendaryReady · 05/09/2021 08:50

Trainers, not necessarily white. I don't do it because it's a "thing" I do it because, thank god, it's become socially acceptable for women to wear comfortable shoes.

When I was first on MN there was horror at the thought of any woman wearing trainers at any time except for exercise Grin

stevalnamechanger · 05/09/2021 08:53

Vejas / Stan smiths / Birkenstock's

hopeishere · 05/09/2021 08:53

I like white trainers with dresses! But not if you can see any sock at all. I also have flat sandals or wedge type ones.

TheFairyCaravan · 05/09/2021 08:54

I wear white trainers. I can’t wear heel so used to live in ballet flats. Trainers give me so much more support for my hyper mobile ankles.

I remember those posts. Thank goodness comfort over impracticality has prevailed.

Do you wear trainer socks, and if you do, then which ones don't show, but also stay on?

Limer · 05/09/2021 09:16

I wear pastel-coloured or floral-patterned lace-up pumps. I use those little popsocks rather than trainer socks. They don't show, and stay on.

CovidCorvid · 05/09/2021 09:20

Either white trainers, black trainers or vans. Have been doing it for about a decade long before it was a thing due to ankle injury. Suddenly after years of people looking a bit odd at me I was bang on trend. Now I worry I'll be outdated which is worse than odd. Grin

I bought some from M and S. They were recommended on here. I think they are called invisible trainer liners.
Veiaola · 05/09/2021 09:27

I wear what I am comfy in an what is appropriate for the day. I am not a sheep and don't really care what other people think anymore as long as I am comfortable. I have shoes I have had for years because they are comfortable. So probably twee. I have too many important things going on in my life right now to be worried about shoes.

hopeishere · 05/09/2021 09:32

I have the M&S ones too and they are pretty good.

If it wasn’t for white trainers/superga etc I’d rarely wear a dress or skirt. Hate ankle boots with bare legs - my calves are too chunky and I always think they look like a drunken wardroBe malfunction even on wispy influencers.

Invisible socks above are fantastic.

Flatdisco · 05/09/2021 09:59

I wear birkinstoks pretty much all summer. I eek them out for as long as possible. I do think white trainers with dresses are a thing. We're there dresses floral?

I'm sure you all looked lovely but sometimes I think something becomes so common it can put me off.

I have loads of little trainer socks and I have found ver few stay on my feet with trainers! So when I wear trainers I tend yo not wear socks and but ones which can go into the washing machine.

loafcake · 05/09/2021 10:04

I love wearing white trainers with day dresses, or if it's a bit chillier I'll put on a pair of tights and some fairly chunky black boots.
If it's really hot just a pair of knockoff Birkenstock's.

KhalliWhalli · 05/09/2021 10:07

Air & Grace trainers a la Carrie Johnson Grin.

mizu · 05/09/2021 10:20

Not white trainers anymore, my Birkenstocks, Tevas or saltwater sandals. Ankle boots when it gets cooler.

shouldistop · 05/09/2021 10:24

White trainers, Birkenstock's or gladiator sandals in the summer.

Boots in the winter.

Captainrachy · 05/09/2021 10:41

Nike AF1 in summer.

Dr Marten boots in winter.
