Day time dresses and white trainers - what do you wear on your feet?

I met up with my friends for brunch recently and we were all wearing dresses with white trainers. I hadn't realised how much of a "thing" it was so when we wandered around town afterwards I noticed that most women in dresses were also wearing white trainers! Is it because we're used to comfy wfh slippers and trainers are more comfy than sandals/flip flops? What do you wear with your day dresses?

I'm not a fan of the white trainers & dotty/ floral summer dresses myself & I think it's fast becoming a dated look. It's comfortable/ practical but it only looks good on a very few people imo

I'm tall & love the flat footwear fashion though I've always worn them over the years myself. Thinking about it more i think I'm not actually a fan of most of the midi dresses I've seen. Again it's a v rare one that might catch my eye
A huge amount of them look v nylon-y/ polyester-y to me

I'm very much looking forward to boots again

This year is the first year I've embraced the white trainers/pumps with dresses. I'd usually be a sandal kinda gal. I do find Birkenstock's ugly - unpopular opinion on mumsnet I know. Please don't lynch me!!

@CFSKate

Do you wear trainer socks, and if you do, then which ones don't show, but also stay on?
I wear m and s soft touch trainer socks.

They are sooooooo comfy and don't make my feet hot!

I don't own white trainers.

I have a pair of Nike suede pumps and wear those with dresses or skirts.
But my dresses always are pink, have pink in them or are navy! So they match well.

itsgettingwierd · 05/09/2021 15:21

Oh and I also have Tesco own version or Birkenstock's and they are a shade of pink too!

RampantIvy · 05/09/2021 15:28

And I have M and S Birkenstock lookalikes Grin. They are absolutely hideous, but give my feet more support while WFH than slippers do.

AnaViaSalamanca · 05/09/2021 21:30

I wear sandals, mules, or espadrilles in the summer. Just can’t wear trainers with a dress. Ever.

RampantIvy · 05/09/2021 22:07

It's been too cold to wear sandals recently - until today.

I don't like white trainers as they make my feet look big for some reason and I struggle to keep them clean. I wear black trainers with a white sole or skate shoes (although I'm getting fed up with how uncomfortable these can be).

I've got some flat black leather mary jane style shoes which are so comfortable I love wearing them, but they are not very stylish looking.

I'd quite like some red or purple trainers, a pop of colour would be nice but black goes with everything.

Light grey suede trainers

For those of you that like this look.. when its cold do you wear tights with the trainers? And what boots. ? Love the ankle gap look with jeans etc tho hard to acheive. If i wear boots with dressess, aa only 5 ft, l look clown like.. sorry to hi jack!!!

Confusedandshaken · 06/09/2021 18:34

I'm 60 and wear white trainers with dresses often. They are flattering against brown legs (fake tan) and look more contemporary than sandals. They have to be very white though, I have two identical pairs so when one pair is in the wash I still have a fresh pair. I also have the same style in a rose gold/pinkish colour that looks lovely with leopard print.

I'm 5ft 1in so appreciate your predicament. When it's cold I wear dresses with flat boots/uggs and opaque tights.

For an ankle gap look I buy jeans that would be cropped on taller women but are ankle skimming on me. Same with yoga pants. A 7/8 style is full length on me.

I'm definitely a convert and have worn trainers and dresses all summer. My sandals don't give me enough support if I'm walking.

In fact look what I have on today.

@midsomermurderess

I saw a group of mid-thirties women at the bus stop recently, all wearing just that, dresses and white trainers. Like someone had passed a sumptuary law. I see it's comfortable and easy, I'd be a bit embarrassed though. Anyway, a variety of sandals for me.
Are you saying you'd be embarrassed if you meet friends and they were all wearing similar clothes? Wouldn't you just think it was funny and one of those things? People are tribal and often mirror each other often subconsciously.

My sister and I quite frequently find we are in similar outfits when we were young we'd go get changed and end up in similar things again 🤣🤣🤣

Gastropod · 06/09/2021 19:45

I hate wearing trainers but love dresses. I go for ballet flats, sparkly flip flops, sandals (flat or chunky) in any colour. Love summer footwear! (Hate to have my feet covered up more than absolutely necessary when it's warm.)

Sickoffamilydrama · 06/09/2021 19:58

I was the same Gastropod until my last pregnancy 6 years ago my foot started twisting in until I have a small bunion and I was told either start wearing Lace up supportive shoes or your setting yourself up for it progressing. I blame years of on the feet jobs then a job that insisted on heels even when pregnant.

I have to say I don't know why I worried nothing bad has happened as a result of me wearing them I've still not featured in vogue but then I never did when I didn't wear them!

Gonnagetgoing · 06/09/2021 21:41

I wear trainers generally any sort and nude lace edge footsies.

Or Birkenstock’s too
