OMG! Boden Autumn Preview

AnnieSnap · 23/04/2021 19:34

I have just had a quick look at the Boden Autumn preview. I love a lot of their jumpsuits and dresses from this season and the previous one, but these up-coming styles are truly awful. Dowdy and drab. Is it just me?

I agree with PPs saying their spring/summer offerings are decent this year and I’ve bought some of the plain cotton tops - I thought perhaps they’d calmed down and turned a bit of a corner - but evidently not Grin

To add insult to injury they’ve reduced the Johnnie B (don’t know if it’s still called that) max age/size so I can no longer buy Bretons from that range. Grrr

applesandpears33 · 28/04/2021 12:23

Looking at the autumn preview I'm not sure if I'm too old, or not old enough.

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 28/04/2021 12:31

@PresentingPercy

I imagine the pullover is a Pucci rip off. A very bad one! Presumably it’s cashmere. The colours are odd for autumn.
Yes that's what I was thinking. The shirt you posted and the jumper I posted are going to be hard to pull off. Pale pink and grey are cool toned colours that work on softer lighter skin tones like summer skin colouring. Paired with a warm mustardy green colour that appears to be more of an autumn colour that someone who is attracted to the lighter pinks and greys would never wear. It's just awful!
Thehawki · 28/04/2021 12:32

Haha I’m 23 and love that dress 🤣 if I’m not mistaken the arms are see through slightly? I think it’s the cottagecore trend that’s doing it. That’s probably why everyone thinks it’s all very little house on the prairie. I’d never spend that much on it though, I don’t have that kind of money! To each their own really, I can see why others would find it frumpy but I think it could be quite fun :)

ExConstance · 28/04/2021 13:30

The Louise tank top is nearly all synthetic and £80? You can get a shetland one from Brora for £115.

PerditaNitt · 28/04/2021 13:55

They will look much nicer on the models and then we will foolishly buy them (forgetting that we are not all models) and then promptly return them again and repeat the online shopping mantra “I’m not 5ft 10, size 8....”.

Apart from the ubiquitous Hush, what is an interesting alternative to Boden? I need to buy some wardrobe updates and I’m very underwhelmed. Inspire me, S&B sisters!

Baukjen is lovely, ethical, beautifully made. I also like some stuff from Jules (ok, shoot me)!

Oh yes PerditaNitt, for summer styles, there are some really nice things in Monsoon and Accessorize!

Yuck

AC2022 · 28/04/2021 15:06

The only item I’m considering is this one, but it’s not available until August and really it’s IMO a spring dress!

They're going to ask £140 for this doozy.

Thank you @AnnieSnap. Will get browsing!

MyGorramShip · 28/04/2021 15:23

I’m 34 and have never shopped at Boden, but I would wear some of that stuff, with my Docs and biker jacket Blush

However the prices are unbelievable. Is the quality amazing or is just the price you pay for the name?!

Yes this is the one thing that stood out to me as something I could see some of the style influencers I follow wearing. The print's got rixo vibes for me. I don't like it personally as it wouldn't suit me. But I can see it being quite fashionable on the right person. Good point though about being made available in August. It definitely is a spring summer dress
IDidntFloatUpTheLaganInABubble · 28/04/2021 16:45

@MyGorramShip the quality is not amazing, it was once upon a time but had declined rapidly over the last few years.

Boden was always my go to place for, blazers, bretons and good basics. Can't remember the last time I shopped there now.

The only good thing about them is their customer service & returns policy.

MyGorramShip · 28/04/2021 16:57

I love a good Breton and haven’t found one in ages.

The last thing I need is a new shopping habit, I already spend far too much at Run and Fly, Lucy and Yak and WAHM businesses. Oh and Docs, of course. So it’s good that the quality is shite Grin

IDidntFloatUpTheLaganInABubble · 28/04/2021 17:18

@MyGorramShip i find the Seasalt sailor tops a good value. £29 each or 2 for £40. I have them in various colours and they wear and wear lovely.

SOLINVICTUS · 28/04/2021 18:26

@CovidCorvid

Even what could have been an ok Breton type jersey top has been ruined by Per Una style neck ruffles.
I noticed Sezanne has gone full blown Princess Di ruffles and piecrust collars Parisian chic my arse, it looks like someone went to C&A in 1982.

Seasalt have a buy one get one half price at the moment on sailor tops. Mine are just starting to wear after about 6 summers.

Hilda Ogden leads the way:
www.bodenpreview.co.uk/en-gb/esmeralda-tie-waist-dress-french-navy-enchanting-forest/sty-d0025-nvy

To be fair, it isn't just Boden.

Frills, ruffles, badly tiered skirts and frocks, frumpy shapes, horrible 70s floral designs - they are everywhere.

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 28/04/2021 18:39

www.bodenpreview.co.uk/en-gb/dolores-shift-dress-black-enchanting-forest/sty-d0008-blk

It goes on and on.

These dresses look as if they should have been sold in BHS made in Crimplene in 1972.

MissLathbury · 28/04/2021 19:30

AnnieSnap I will be trying a couple of things from Baukjen, as I like their ethical approach and limited range. I get tired of brands trying to do everything, plus with Boden the decline in quality and rise in price. If they would put their prices up a bit more and retain the former quality it would be better.

Alsohuman · 28/04/2021 20:02

Oh be fair - it is silk!
PresentingPercy · 28/04/2021 23:37

Well except no one pays full price. They are 20% off all the time. Or buy classics from them in the sales. Silk is better quality at M&S though. Similar quality is &OtherStories for less.

I think you’ll like them.

I know what you mean about companies trying to do everything. I can never make it through a search on Next these days. They sell so many brands now, in addition to their own, that a simple search seems to throw up hundreds of pages (I never make it past about 8). Because they sell so much and the wading through becomes too much, I never buy clothes from them.
