So what do we think of all of the puffed sleeves?

Hmmm. Puffed sleeves featurure on many (really many) of the summer dresses I'm browsing. Or puffed sleeves AND frills.

I can imagine carrying this off easily if I was younger, slimmer, taller and finer boned but I'm 49, size 12-14 depending on the brand, 5ft 2 and my arms aren't what they were. These dresses look pretty in the pictures but I'd just look really bulky around the shoulders.

I quite like them but they’re really hard to iron!

Standrewsschool · 10/04/2021 12:49

I’m the wrong side of 50, and have a couple of dresses and tops with puff sleeves. I don’t have the voluminous sleeves, more slightly puffy. I like them.

PattyPan · 10/04/2021 12:52

They’re really annoying to wear under a cardigan which, let’s be realistic, usually has to be done due to British summer weather!

This is exactly what I was going to say. I steer clear of puff and flutter sleeve styles because they're not practical for layering!

I love short puff sleeves but you have to be quite willowy and skinny with long thin arms to carry them off I think.

Nitgel · 10/04/2021 13:15

Ok on under 18s

KirstenBlest · 10/04/2021 13:20

They're not for me. They add width to the silhouette.

whenwillthemadnessend · 10/04/2021 13:20

Slightly puffy fine huge mega 80s style. Leave to the youngsters

OublietteBravo · 10/04/2021 13:23

I can’t do them at all. My shoulders are already broad for my build and I don’t want to add further bulk.

AOwlAOwlAOwl · 10/04/2021 13:37

Long puffed sleeves yes, short puffed sleeves no, I have no wish to look like an NFL player.

3peassuit · 10/04/2021 14:42

Sweet on small children, unflattering on women.

LilyRose88 · 10/04/2021 14:45

They really don't suit me. They make my shoulders look even broader and as I am quite busty they make me look even more top heavy. They look lovely on the models advertising them though.

Eskarina1 · 10/04/2021 14:48

Not a chance I'll be wearing them but it makes me happy to see them. I always think of Anne of Green Gables

Parker231 · 10/04/2021 14:50

Don’t like them - looks too fussy and the material needs to be very good to hold the shape.

RacheyCat · 10/04/2021 14:56

I accidentally (was buying something else and forgot to take it out of the basket) bought that Zara broderie anglaise puff sleeved midi dress and when I tried it on I looked like a deranged bride from the 1980's. Fortunately it buttons through the front so I'm now wearing it open as a sort of jacket over my gym gear when I go to yoga. The puffed sleeves lose some of their force when it's not one big block of fabric over your torso.

OP, you say younger, taller, slimmer but I'm 36, 5'9, and a size 8 and I couldn't pull it off either. Maybe if you're 18. I dunno.

FunnyWonder · 10/04/2021 15:10

I like them. Sadly though, I now have puffed arms, so they would be form fitting on me!

Itsallhere · 10/04/2021 15:10

I’m going to disagree! I like puffed sleeves as long as the dress cinches in at the waist. I have a lovely wrap dress which gives me a lovely hourglass shape, and the puffed sleeves work with that silhouette

goldielockdown2 · 10/04/2021 15:13

I really love them

NoraLuka · 10/04/2021 15:13

@Eskarina1 I clicked on this thread just to say puffed sleeves make me think of Anne of Green Gables 😁

Ha ha, me too! My first thought was, 'At least Anne will be happy' 😃

helpfulperson · 10/04/2021 17:08

Yup. Came on to comment 'very Anne of Green Gables'

FourTurnings · 10/04/2021 17:56

No good for me but I like the look of them.

CatSickYellowSocks · 10/04/2021 19:17

I think they can look lovely and feminine on the right person, I’ve got boobs so they’re a bit Oktoberfest for me.

LoisWilkersonslastnerve · 10/04/2021 19:23

I'm wearing a puffed sleeve jumper as we speak. I thought with my lockdown weight gain it would be flattering and stylish. It isn't. I look like a potato with wings.

ChubbyLittleManInACampervan · 10/04/2021 19:24

I love them

Am looking for a nice puff sleeve cardigan
