So what do we think of all of the puffed sleeves?

Hmmm. Puffed sleeves featurure on many (really many) of the summer dresses I'm browsing. Or puffed sleeves AND frills.

I can imagine carrying this off easily if I was younger, slimmer, taller and finer boned but I'm 49, size 12-14 depending on the brand, 5ft 2 and my arms aren't what they were. These dresses look pretty in the pictures but I'd just look really bulky around the shoulders.

Oh no!!! I hope there will be puffless offerings this year. I hate fashions like this. They are so wasteful. Like peplum tops and cold shoulder nonsense. I'm not saying I never by new clothes because I do but more classic looking items can be passed on and on. My MIL works in a charity shop and said that the peplum stuff wouldn't sell and ended up going in the rag bag.

I hate puffed sleeves in every variation. A nice flat set in sleeve is more flattering on everyone. I have two lovely T shirts that would be perfect (fabric, weight and cut) were it not for the puff sleeves. I means they are only wearable with a sweater over the top.

PoTheDog · 10/04/2021 20:37

I'm not sure i've worked out how to wear them yet. But, in general, I do like how fashion silhouettes are changing at the moment: adding some different shapes than we have been seeing for the last few years. It means you can choose where to add volume to suit, and feels quite interesting at the moment

HundredMilesAnHour · 10/04/2021 20:39

Very bored with them now. This the 3rd year of puffed sleeves. Are we just staying with them for the whole decade?

LadyTiredWinterBottom2 · 10/04/2021 21:18

They are good for me because l'm a learning shape. However one or two items is the limit and l chose carefully. A black knit jumper looks lovely. A small floral print with a tiered skirt would most certainly draw comments from my mostly male colleagues.

No puff sleeves here. Too annoying to put under a cardi and since it has snowed today, I won't be ditching the woollies soon!

schnubbins · 10/04/2021 21:36

Big boobs and puffy sleeves .Can't wait !

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 11/04/2021 00:46

I've got big boobs so added puff and frills look dreadful on me.

I'm struggling to find anything flattering at the moment.

AcornAutumn · 11/04/2021 00:57

I like them if the puff isn't too big - not a euphemism 😂

I think a slight puff is flattering.

dudsville · 11/04/2021 01:11

I bought a dress with the puffed up sleeves. I loved the dress otherwise, the fabric, the length, but the sleeves became ridiculous pdq so i6 deconstructed the sleeve to make it less puffy.

MissBarbary · 11/04/2021 02:22

I've just bought this &Daughter puffed sleeve dress. I love it. Wearing a cardigan is fine as long as the cardigan sleeve isn't too tight.

Dresses with 3/4 and full length puff sleeves look good on me. Short puffed sleeves nope! They just emphasise my short, chubby arms and because they end level with chest and I'm pretty busty I look so broad in them.

ballroompink · 11/04/2021 07:37

I quite like them and they look fine on me (I'm slim on top with small boobs) but as others have said, they're annoying for layering. I have a lovely 1980s Laura Ashley dress with short puff sleeves and it's a 'warm summer days' thing only as you couldn't wear a cardigan with it.

Cowbells · 11/04/2021 07:48

@FunnyWonder

I like them. Sadly though, I now have puffed arms, so they would be form fitting on me!
Grin Grin Grin Brilliant. Know the feeling.
lazylinguist · 11/04/2021 07:52

Hideous. They'd be unflattering on me, but I don't even think they look nice on tall willowy types either. I don't mind them on knitwear for some reason. But frilly, puffy dresses? Ugh!

Same. I hate the puffs, the frills, the tiers, the square necklines. Ghastly. I want clean lines, no fuss. Grown-up clothes not this Victorian milkmaid nonsense Hmm
tappitytaptap · 11/04/2021 07:55

@Boood

I quite like them but they’re really hard to iron!
God yes! When I lived at home my mum used to say I picked out clothes that were really hard to iron 🙈. Now I actively think about the ironing before I purchase 😜 On a related topic has anyone seen a cheaper version of the Oliver bonas frilled denim dungarees? They are 80 quid which is a bit expensive for me

tappitytaptap · 11/04/2021 07:56

Ive ordered a few dresses from ASOS with some frilly bits, I’m probably going to have to send a load back. I’m tall and slim (well, slightly less slim post lockdown cake eating) and I’m not even sure they are going to suit me! Most of the dresses at the moment look a bit shapeless.

TookHerForADrinkOnTuesday · 11/04/2021 12:45

I’m not convinced they look good on willowy 6ft 18 yr olds in the fashion photos...so pretty sure they’re not for me.

Big breasts and puffy sleeves? I think I’d look like an 18th century wench in an ale house.

coogee · 11/04/2021 13:05

I'll pass. Puffs, frills, or any kind of frippery isn't for me.

tappitytaptap · 11/04/2021 18:52

@SmiledWithTheRisingSun I saw both of those on a google search! I’d have been tempted with the new look one as it’s so cheap but it’s only in 6 and 8 and I’m not sure my post lockdown arse could get into an 8 🙈

Deathraystare · 12/04/2021 16:10

Some of them remind me of when I was younger and wore them but at 61 (gasp!) and overweight I would look like a 'bonnie baby'!!

Temp023 · 12/04/2021 16:13

I’m vibing Dwayne Johnson in a tutu!
