I need a wider fit and have found men's trainers in my usual size are much more suited to my feet

Alsohuman · 11/03/2021 12:07

£70 for plastic shoes?

Yup, you do know most trainers aren’t leather? And that £70 is a pretty standard price for them?

shouldistop · 11/03/2021 12:11

@msbevvy I'm a size 4, I don't think gents shoes go down to that size.

Yes I know, my running/sports trainers are synthetic but any trainers I have that look like leather are leather and cost about that for real leather.

When I was little plastic shoes were cheap! I have seen brands like Kurt Geiger selling plastic shoes for over £100 but I am genuinely shocked at Adidas.

BikeRunSki · 11/03/2021 13:24

I like these Clarks in white, but I’d wait for a discount code! Clark’s are normally pretty generous width.

IrisW · 11/03/2021 13:25

Mint Velvet trainers are quite nice. The trainers you’ve linked to are really frumpy - it’s the sole.

huuuuunnnndderrricks · 11/03/2021 16:16

Super frumpy!

HiPieInTheSky · 11/03/2021 16:29

I have just got 2 pairs of Geox 'trainers' one pair still £110 on their own website, the other a slightly different at £90, both from TKmaxx £24.

Neither are narrow fit, I have I would say slightly wider fit feet, have a look, but they do sell out fast.

Like this kind of thing (they have different colours, just to show you)

duvets · 11/03/2021 16:39

I think they're neutral and classy looking, versatile. But I might also personally err towards using trainers as an opportunity to go for a trendy brand.

Nannyamc · 11/03/2021 16:43

Sorry but they are frumpy
I wear gabor rolling soft range. Very comfortable come in lots of colours.
Has 2 side zips if you have a wider foot. Well worth the money

rabbitcow · 11/03/2021 16:47

If you are looking for something gold-y, how about these? Only a few quid more than the Gabor ones.

But boy's ones do - and you could well be in the sizing that means no VAT.

New Balance are very narrow. Including the mens' ones.

shouldistop · 11/03/2021 17:13

@NeverDropYourMoonCup I have bought kids trainers in the past. They don't tend to be wide fitting though.

That's a shame - maybe Nike would be worth a look? They tend to be the brand bought for the kids I know have broader feet. (First aider, so spent more time actually looking at kids' feet/ankles/knees than is usual for an unrelated adult).

ViciousJackdaw · 12/03/2021 01:21

@SmallPrawnEnergy

Omg those superga ones ... I almost died laughing that someone genuinely suggested those. Please don’t get them they’re fucking terrible, what people think trendy is but really is middle aged middles class tack!
They're not great are they - perhaps JK Rowling or the D of C was seen wearing them once or something?
evilharpy · 12/03/2021 09:58

Oh my god. I have the superga ones in silver. I have genuinely never considered myself frumpy apart from during the year after my daughter was born, but now I'm reassessing my whole wardrobe/life Grin

KirstenBlest · 12/03/2021 10:18

Frumpy

MoltonSilver · 12/03/2021 10:20

I knew before I opened the link.... Gabor will be very comfortable but always veering towards frumpy, even if they've almost got it right.

MoltonSilver · 12/03/2021 10:23

Mint Velvet Allie trainers are very comfortable and the sole is more flexible than it looks.

This is bang on. It's like their shoes are a bit apologetic somehow. Some of them are nearly there and would be nice if only they were either flatter or higher or had a much chunkier heel but they opt for a heel like this and there's just no hope.

That said, the ones in the OP aren't nearly there, they're just frumpy.

KirstenBlest · 12/03/2021 12:10

@NeverDropYourMoonCup, New Balance do two widths. The narrow ones are very narrow.

justanotherneighinparadise · 12/03/2021 12:13

I don’t think I they’re either really. They just look very ordinary. I wouldn’t pay £90 for them.

shouldistop · 12/03/2021 12:20

I didn't realise new balance did more widths. Opinions? None are exactly what I'm looking for but I'm not sure I'm going to get that.

Gabor are frumpy - but VERY comfortable, and well made
They do have the odd bearable style , I own two pairs - a classic plain round toe court and a lace up heeled brogue

You could definitely get nicer trainers
