If you’re around 40, where do you buy your “wow” dresses?

Not that we’re all likely to be going anywhere soon 🙄 But if you were able to buy a dress for a New Years Eve night out (like cocktails and dancing rather than black tie) or a general nice night out, where do you go when ASOS, Topshop etc all start to seem a bit young blah?

goose1964 · 03/12/2020 21:07

Montyman · 03/12/2020 21:08

Folkster is an Irish brand. Their clothes are beautiful

PARunnerGirl · 03/12/2020 21:15

Monki! I forgot about that! Thanks @fiorentina!

Also like &Other Stories and Cos but I didn’t think of them for dresses like this.

And I’m off to look at Folkster!

Asos is lovely in for going out and formal dresses.
CoffeeRunner · 03/12/2020 21:25

ASOS. I’ve had one or two from Dorothy Perkins too.

JoanDarc · 03/12/2020 21:37

Reiss, I'm early 40's and feel it works really well for grown up glamour.

Is Coast still around? I’ve never been disappointed with one of their dresses.

sHREDDIES19 · 03/12/2020 21:58

I love Miss Selfridge and New Look. Sounds young (I’m 42) but works for me as I look young and very petite.

wonkylegs · 03/12/2020 22:12

I used to get them from coast / Karen Millen but coast has really gone down hill since they were bought out.
Chichi
Pretty kitty for something a bit retro

The pretty dress company.com

LooseMooseHoose · 03/12/2020 22:57

Sosandar and Reiss for me.

Elouera · 03/12/2020 22:58

Coast or Karen Millen

Delatron · 03/12/2020 23:00

Bash (french brand), &Other Stories, Rixo,

I’d look at independent shops with brands like samsoe & samsoe, ganni.

Yes a bit more expensive but I’ve not found anything I like for a special occasion from Top Shop or ASOS for years...

SheeshazAZ09 · 03/12/2020 23:00

Phase eight. Flattering for my shape.

minipie · 03/12/2020 23:09

Reiss, Chichi London, Ted Baker, BrandAlley (for discount designer - I got a great Vivienne Westwood dress heavily reduced there).

John Lewis is good for covering a wide range of brands.

I ordered a load of dresses from asos a year or two ago, they all went back as couldn’t be worn with a bra.
