Has anyone here had rhinoplasty and do you regret it?

I’ve hated my nose as long as I can remember. It was broken as a teen and on the large side anyway so I’ve always sort of wished it I could change it.

I’m now in a position financially where it’s possible for me to do so if I choose. I’m 37, happily married and don’t feel like I’m coming at it from a place of feeling like I’m doing it for any reason other than for myself, so that I am a bit happier with the way I look for me, not for anyone else.

I have found a surgeon that I’d like to have a consultation with and seriously look into it. I am 90% sure I will go for it but I’m just wondering whether anyone has been in a similar position and ended up with maybe a nicer nose, but still ultimately regretting the decision? For example you don’t feel you look like yourself anymore?

Just came to say some very good Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons will give a free mini consultation to brief patients on what to expect and what happens. Then if they think its something they really want to do and it's something the Surgeon is also happy to proceed with they will then pay for a full consultation.

I had it done almost 2 years ago and don’t regret it. My nose is not perfect but is nicer than it was. I had a small bump removed from the bridge and the dropping tip fixed. Nobody noticed - even my best friend!
Don’t go in with an idea of a celebrity nose that you’d like or you will be disappointed. A good surgeon will improve the nose you have but won’t attempt to create an entirely new nose.

Someone asked how the surgeon gets the nose to look like the 3D image. In my experience it’s because the image only showed what my actual nose would look like with minor adjustments. My surgeon wasn’t trying to completely reinvent it.

BasinHaircut · 25/10/2020 20:22

100% @Whatiswrongwithmykid

I only mentioned the celeb upthread as I think her nose is similar to mine already. I don’t want to look like a different person (I don’t know how people can do that anyway, must be a complete mind fuck to see someone new in the mirror), just a slightly improved version of myself Smile

@BasinHaircut I have this app on my phone, I edit my photos all the time with it 😂 it’s good to have a play around though and see what you would like your nose to look like.
My surgeon said to bring the edited pics I have done and see whether they married up with the 3D image he created.

Has anyone here had rhinoplasty and do you regret it?
BasinHaircut · 25/10/2020 23:27

@FuckKnowsMate that app is amazing!

OP posts:
BasinHaircut · 26/10/2020 08:45

Well I’m completely obsessed with that app now Grin

I can really see what a couple of very small changes could make. In these photos my real nose is on the left, in the middle image I’ve taken away the bump, and the right image lifted the tip very slightly.

@basinhaircut all those noses look identical. You have a lovely nose!

BasinHaircut · 26/10/2020 08:59

@ladybird303 ahh thank you but isn’t it mad how to me they all look so different. All I can see is a huge wonky bump and a droopy end!

OP posts:
IDontMindMarmite · 26/10/2020 09:08

You barely have a bump

BasinHaircut · 26/10/2020 10:08

@IDontMindMarmite it’s actually more noticeable from a 45 degree angle rather than fully side-on but it’s harder to do the edits that way on this app.

FuckKnowsMate · 26/10/2020 10:37

They do look different to me too but I think that’s because I am the same as you and constantly comparing noses and stuff so I can see any small differences!!

blueangel19 · 26/10/2020 10:45

Go for it. The most important thing is the choice of surgeon. That is what will make it a success. There will be some things that will come post op like waxing hair nostrils permanently but that is a small price to pay if you really hate your nose.

Just finished my list of questions for tomorrow. Attached in case anyone else finds them useful

Really good questions OP!
Where abouts are you based if you don’t mind saying? I’m in the North West so went to see a surgeon based in Manchester

BasinHaircut · 26/10/2020 17:33

Well some are yours @FuckKnowsMate and others inspired by this thread which has been really helpful.

I’m in the South East so I’m Looking at London/Essex based surgeons

BasinHaircut · 27/10/2020 12:54

Well, my consultation was amazing! The surgeon I saw was so thorough that I hardly had to ask any of the questions.

I showed her the pictures I mocked up using that app and she loved them. She said they were useful to show what I was looking for and it’s exactly what she would recommend. She is going to do her own images based on them and our discussion.

I’d say after that consultation I’m even more sure I will go ahead.

I haven't, but my good friend has -we are both 34. She has a long term partner and 2 children. She has always been a confident person but unhappy with her nose (she had a bump) but now she is soo happy and ultra confident. She looks amazing. She regrets not having it done ages ago. For the record this is one of the reasons I don't put my children on Facebook at all, because if they have something physical they want to change in future I don't want them to worry that they're picture has been plastered all over Facebook and they can't keep it a secret from new acquaintances!
You have one life. Bloody go for it!! X

ClaireP20 · 27/10/2020 13:07

Ps my friend used Transform. They picked her up in a car and dropped her off after surgery x

FuckKnowsMate · 27/10/2020 14:51

I went to Transform years ago but only ever made it to a patient co-ordinator! I never even got to a surgeon for a consultation. And then they kept ringing and ringing me to see if I wanted to go ahead. It felt very much money orientated rather than client! That was a long time ago though!

BasinHaircut · 27/10/2020 15:16

I’m very happy with the surgeon I’ve found. She clearly knew what she was talking about and is very experienced. I contacted her PA directly and the whole thing has been very personal and simple so far. Most importantly there is clearly no pressure to go any further than this initial consultation.

I actually don’t feel comfortable using a company that makes the whole thing more sales/business like than medical.

BasinHaircut · 27/10/2020 15:19

Just to add @ClaireP20 that’s not to say that they haven’t done a great job for your friend- I’m sure they have!

I think it’s all about feeling comfortable with the whole process though and you have to do what’s right for you.

Absolutely - best of luck, how exciting! X
FuckKnowsMate · 29/10/2020 17:55

@BasinHaircut sorry me again....did you ask your surgeon about her thoughts on a non surgical rhinoplasty?? If so, what did she say?? I am considering looking into this now first

BasinHaircut · 29/10/2020 18:25

That’s probably the only thing we didn’t cover to be honest! By the time I went through my list I’d pretty much decided I was going ahead with the surgery.
