Has anyone here had rhinoplasty and do you regret it?

I’ve hated my nose as long as I can remember. It was broken as a teen and on the large side anyway so I’ve always sort of wished it I could change it.

I’m now in a position financially where it’s possible for me to do so if I choose. I’m 37, happily married and don’t feel like I’m coming at it from a place of feeling like I’m doing it for any reason other than for myself, so that I am a bit happier with the way I look for me, not for anyone else.

I have found a surgeon that I’d like to have a consultation with and seriously look into it. I am 90% sure I will go for it but I’m just wondering whether anyone has been in a similar position and ended up with maybe a nicer nose, but still ultimately regretting the decision? For example you don’t feel you look like yourself anymore?

I'd try and go down the non surgical route first

If you do go ahead, choose a proper ENT surgeon rather than just a general cosmetic one

FuckKnowsMate · 15/10/2020 09:38

@BasinHaircut

I did go for my consultation and I had the photos taken where it shows in 3D what my potential nose would look like. He edited the photo and explained what he would do during the procedure etc.
I also would need a septo rhinoplasty because I have a deviated septum slightly which has caused blockage up one nostril.

The end photo he did after all the editing, I’ll be honest, I wasn’t keen on because the tip looked too projected when he had removed the bump. He did bring the tip closer but just a little too high and long for my liking.
I sooo wish I had asked more questions though, I had a list of them on my computer at work and bloody forgot to email them myself!!
I could book another appointment with him for a pre-op discussion if I decide to go ahead and then go through my expectations and all my questions then.
I think I am going to see a couple more surgeons though to see what they say too.

FuckKnowsMate · 15/10/2020 09:40

Oh and I would say after seeing the photos of me, I am now more concerned with my lack of jawline / neck than anything else 😂😂😂

ArranBound · 15/10/2020 10:46

I had my nose job around 25 years ago and I don't regret it at all. I was referred to an NHS surgeon, but as a private patient, by my GP. This reassured me that the surgeon would be top notch.

My old nose had that flattened looking bit on a protruding bump. Sorry, I find it hard to describe! After the surgery, I felt very bunged up for a few weeks and it ached quite badly, too. I didn't dare look in a mirror until the cast was removed a month or so later. Even then, my eyes were still a bit blackened and my nose a bit swollen, but I could see the difference

Now, I don't try to hide my nose when I talk to people. It looks like it is meant for my face, if that makes sense. One thing I have noticed, though, is I have a lot of broken veins on my nose. I can't recall if they started around the time of the surgery but they've never gone away and they take some covering up. Might be nothing to do with the OP, of course.

CointreauVersial · 15/10/2020 13:29

Yes, and absolutely NO regrets!

I was 22 - I had a real beak beforehand, and have a perfectly neat, normal nose now. They slimmed it down, and reduced the tip as well.

After the op it was quite achy and uncomfortable for a while, and felt "fragile", but it improved my self-confidence no end.

I was lucky, and managed to qualify for an NHS op.

Lorrtay65 · 15/10/2020 13:39

Had mine done at 38, no-one I've not told has ever mentioned they noticed it but to me the difference in my confidence was life changing.

What I would say is that for me the recovery period was a bit longer than I had anticipated, I had under eye bruising for around 6 weeks and a slight numbness in my nose for around a year.

Overall though 100% worth it.

BasinHaircut · 15/10/2020 14:48

Oh no @FuckKnowsMate how frustrating that you couldn’t remember your questions!

I know what you mean about noticing other things though, could be a slippery slope Grin

I am almost 38 so I don’t think is outgrow my nose at this point so I’m not concerned about that, and thanks again all it’s very encouraging to hear all of the non-regrets (apart from not having it done sooner). I was thinking myself am I too old to worry about I but hopefully I’ve enough years left that it will be worth it. I’d love more photos of myself but when you only like how you look in about 1 in every 100 you don’t keep many....

Had it done 12 years ago after being victim of domestic violence. Never once regretted it

SmoggieC · 19/10/2020 19:58

I'm 40 now

Muddybootsblister · 19/10/2020 20:16

I did it about 12 years ago and am so pleased I did. I was very self conscious of my side profile and although I don’t love my face now, it’s unremarkable. I’m not ‘the one with the nose’ as an ex boyfriend’s friend once described me!

idril · 19/10/2020 20:32

I'd love mine done but I'm too scared of the recovery and posts on here are not helping! Sleep sitting up and on your back!!

LilyLongJohn · 19/10/2020 20:48

My friend had it done years ago and said it was the best decision she ever made

MuserOwl · 19/10/2020 20:50

@MrsA2017

I had it done a couple of years ago and it is the best thing I have ever done. I wasn’t expecting perfection, I just wanted to notice my other features when I looked in the mirror rather than only ever focussing on my nose.

Before I had it done my mum said “what if you regret it?” And I said - “I can’t hate it anymore than I do already” - so I think it depends how likely it is you’ll end up with a “worse” nose iyswim

Now I just have a nose that I never think about or notice and that is the perfect outcome imo

Did other people notice?
MuserOwl · 19/10/2020 20:55

@IDontMindMarmite

I've considered it for years but have been put off by Jennifer Grey. Nice nose job but she looked like a different person after.
She did didn't she!? That is not what usually happens though.
ohcarolina2001 · 19/10/2020 21:37

Had mine done 13 years ago. Game changer. No regrets. No one ever tells me I have a big nose any more. It is still big actually but the bump is gone so it just looks normal and straight now. Very happy.

Purplealienpuke · 19/10/2020 23:25

I had my nose broken in my teens. It was fixed shortly after with an NHS procedure. It would have been great (although the aftermath of surgery was painful) had it not been broken again by a drunken bum at a party shortly after 🙄 he didn't assault me, just fell on me!
I've lived with it because I couldn't be doing with the pain again....

MrsA2017 · 20/10/2020 06:29

@MuserOwl No, if I hadn’t told them 🙂

BasinHaircut · 20/10/2020 11:13

@Purplealienpuke my nose was also broken in my teens and I just cannot understand now why it wasn’t fixed at the time? If it wasn’t for the break I don’t think my nose would have ever been an issue for me. Yes it would still be on the larger side and although I was teased a tiny bit in my teens about it, I think it was only ever apparently because of the resulting shape.

Wheytaminute · 20/10/2020 12:18

Go for it.

Your nose sounds like mine was. I waited until I was 48 - had a lot more disposable income and was much more confident in myself - in that I deserved it?

No one actually noticed until I mentioned it. I have told only a few friends - my family don't even know and I guess they won't notice it now as will have got used to the new me.

I look like me - just better.

BasinHaircut · 20/10/2020 12:35

Thanks @Wheytaminute that’s soo good to hear. I imagine your only regret is also that you didn’t do it sooner?

I am weighing up whether to tell many people or not and see whether they notice. Think it will be interesting.....

OP posts:
CointreauVersial · 20/10/2020 13:33

I didn't tell anyone I was having it done (apart from my student housemates), but it coincided quite by chance with a fairly drastic haircut.

So a lot of people looked at me strangely, and said "wow, that haircut makes you look really different", but only one person actually noticed the new nose.

People are generally fascinated by the whole thing, and always want to see before and after photos, even 31 years later!

CatMotherQueen · 20/10/2020 13:49

I hated my nose anyway, then broke it twice.
I saved up and got a nose job. It was the best thing I've ever done for my appearance and self esteem.
Bumped into a friend a couple of weeks after, she didn't notice my new nose, but said, 'your hair looks great like that, it really lifts your face.'
I hadn't changed my hair at all. Smile

Maxabella2 · 20/10/2020 20:41

I had mine done at 22 and it’s the best thing I ever did-I’m now 48.
I hated my nose(a true blob) from approximately 10yrs old and decided as an adult nobody could now stop me or Poo Poo the idea.
I had my cheekbones fractured to try to narrow the ‘spread’,the tip reduced and the bridge filed.
I’d researched the procedure fully so knew what I was in for and the only horrid bit was when I had the packing removed-the rest was a breeze.
I spent years feeling that people were staring at my nose when talking to me ,and after ,I never gave it another thought.
It’s not beautiful, but it’s now ‘just a nose’ and going for it transformed my life-it was the best thing I ever did.

Mrssmith2016 · 20/10/2020 20:52

I had mine done at 19, best thing I ever did. Told no one but parents. None of my friends even noticed! I didn't want to talk about it, just wanted a nose I wasn't self conscious of so I flew under the radar whilst the swelling went down then back to normal

Teenminds · 20/10/2020 20:59

If I could afford it, I would do it. When your own parents tease you about it as a child it destroys your self confidence. Alas I cannot afford it.
The only problem I would have is recovery, if you have to have bandages and have bruises for weeks, how long would you need to take off work!?!
