Ideal boob size if you're a 12 otherwise

DuckyMcDuck · 28/08/2020 20:17

Bits of an odd one this, I have prosthetic boobs after a double mastectomy due to breast cancer. When I got them I was about 13 stone and a size 16. They are D cup.

6 years later I am 10.5 stone and a size 10/12 and they need replacing but I'm not sure what size I should go for. I feel what I have is quite big especially as they don't really look like real boobs. The prosthetics are really expensive so can't afford to make a mistake and as all the 'boob shops' are closed atm, I need to buy online.

So, my question is, if you're tall (5"10) and a size 12, what is an ideal boob size?

I came on to say it's totally depends on your frame... but as I'm 5'10" and a 12 I'll just answer your question! I'm a 34 C.

JaceLancs · 28/08/2020 20:52

I’m a shorter size 12 and a 34F or G depending on bra style

ilovecherries · 28/08/2020 21:36

I’m size 12, 5 foot 7 and either a 32G or 34FF (and that’s AFTER a sodding reduction last year)

Motheroftwofeline · 28/08/2020 21:38

12, 34D, feel pretty in proportion.

MaverickDanger · 28/08/2020 21:39

Size 12, 5ft 9 and normally 32G/GG - currently pregnant so more like a 36HH and would not recommend!

I think an F cup would suit my frame more and would def be cheaper to buy bras!

Kittytheteapot · 28/08/2020 21:40

Size 12, 5 foot 9 here and I am quite happy with my 34DD bust. That sounds as though it is huge, it really isn't. Pre kids, I was always a B cup but post kids I was measured as a DD. My boobs are only slightly bigger.

What a novel idea, choosing your bust size! I hope you like what you go with in the end.

Time2change2 · 28/08/2020 21:41

I am a size 12 and usually a D. It’s pretty good but sometimes I wish there were a little smaller - I think a C would be perfect as I would love to wear more strappy tops / bra less and sometimes D just has too much boob!

Iamthewombat · 28/08/2020 21:43

It 100% depends on your frame, as a PP said. I’m 5’9” and size 12. I have broad shoulders and a wide rib cage to carry them. I’ll never be less than 36” chest circumference and because of my sporty build I’m a B. I’d look weird if I were bigger than a C: I’m just not built that way.

Time2change2 · 28/08/2020 21:44

@Kittytheteapot wow - there is a huge difference in bras from B to DD. I am often a DD if my weight goes up at xmas etc but usually a d. Haven’t been a B since school! Bras looks so different at a b! At DD most bras are higher and offer far more support etc also, in MandS the ‘larger bust’ bras start at DD

PutBabyInTheCorner · 28/08/2020 21:48

I'm same height as you and size 10-12. I was a 34c which I thought was perfect and suited my frame. After 3 babies my breasts are now a small b cup which I don't like but I wear padded bras to make me look more in proportion.

Yes, I dont think I was wearing the right size necessarily pre kids. I think I was measured as a 34 C but chose to wear a 36 B as I found 34 too tight. Then I was persuaded that tight was right and I have to admit, my shape is much better now. But even I was surprised by the double D! I really don't think I look that big but it is certainly true I would not ever be able to go braless now. So if that is important to you OP, you need to go quite small.

ChanklyBore · 28/08/2020 21:59

I have small breasts. I can wear vest tops and go bra less. I run in a vest top and don’t use a sports bra. I am a 30E/32DD depending on the bra, and a size 12 at 5 foot 8 inches. It is important to remember that the volume of the cup size depends on both the letter and the number, so a D cup alone can mean very small or very large (28D a very different size to 42D)

yawnsvillex · 28/08/2020 22:17

I'm 5"2 ... 8/10 and 34F

CallarMorvern · 28/08/2020 23:46

there is a huge difference in bras from B to DD.
But the band size alters the cup size, I think? My Mum is the same cup size as me, but I'm a 32 and she's a 40, the cups in her bras look far bigger than mine.

Anyway, in answer to the original question, I'm 5'10 size 12-14 on top and wear a 32f/34e, I feel in proportion and tops fit fine, although I like really small breasts, so would
be maybe a B cup, if I could choose.

Blondiney · 29/08/2020 00:30

I'm size 10-12, 5'9 and a 32E. Sounds big but I'm hourglassy so they look in proportion.

Given the choice of designing brand new ones, I think I'd go a bit smaller. 32C looks very pretty and neat on my friend but would probably leave me looking bottom heavy though.

Twaddledee · 29/08/2020 01:32

If you look at dress size charts to be in proportion you generally would have a measurement at the widest part of your bust of 2 inches less than your hip measurement. If you then take your band measurement someone clever who fits bras should be able to work out the perfect bra size from this

chocdonuty · 29/08/2020 04:19

Depends on your back size, 36d is different to a 32d, If you buy them just on cup size it could be difficult to choose if they are not all standard sizes across the board.(bit like clothes shopping I guess!)
Maybe try some full cup padded bras that hold their shape and see which looks best on your frame?

Ideal boob size if you're a 12 otherwise
Megan2018 · 29/08/2020 04:31

Short size 12 here and pre DD was 32DD or 30E. I had really narrow shoulders and ribcage though.
Currently a 34DD or 32E as BF and prefer them this size.

eurochick · 29/08/2020 05:24

34c which feels in proportion to me.

BinkyandBunty · 29/08/2020 07:04

34C is what I ended up with after implants many years ago and they were perfect. I'm 5'11 and was size 10-12 then.

Now a middle aged size 14 and 36DD which feels too big and matronly on an otherwise athletic frame.

juggyty · 29/08/2020 07:41

I'm a 12, 5ft 9 & a 34E. I carry weight on my chest. For my wedding I was about a size 9 & a 34D. Much preferred that size as personally I think a big chest can look a bit frumpy.

bookish83 · 29/08/2020 07:46

5'2 hourglass. At 10ish stone was a 32D or 34C.

Monstamio · 29/08/2020 07:47

I'm 5'9", size 12 and normally a 32DD which I'm happy with and suits my frame. Currently bf a newborn so have ballooned to an F cup and they feel mahoosive on me (I have narrow shoulders).

jolokoy · 29/08/2020 07:54

I'm a 12 , 5'10 and 32F. They don't seem massive and I don't always wear a bra. Bralettes are fine or just a stretchy vest top for me - I don't need the support or anything, so I only really wear bras for going Out Among The English. Wink

That's sized via the modern method, not M&S method (the add 4 method), that some are using here. I've an hourglass shape so I'm 10/12 on the waist and 12/14 on the hips and chest.

I am NOT narrow at all, very broad shouldered and large framed with some solid muscle and probably 1.5 stone heavier than you, OP.

veryvery · 29/08/2020 08:11

I have had Brest cancer and lost weight since treatment also but have one prosthetic and one natural boob. I have gone from a clothes size 14 to a 10 and my bra size to the best of my judgment (measuring with a bra on) has gone from a 36DD to a 34D (I don't like the band too tight across scars).
I wear a size 7 prosthesis.

Nicola Jane sells a swimming prosthesis which is very affordable here which you could try for size.
