Ideal boob size if you're a 12 otherwise

DuckyMcDuck · 28/08/2020 20:17

Bits of an odd one this, I have prosthetic boobs after a double mastectomy due to breast cancer. When I got them I was about 13 stone and a size 16. They are D cup.

6 years later I am 10.5 stone and a size 10/12 and they need replacing but I'm not sure what size I should go for. I feel what I have is quite big especially as they don't really look like real boobs. The prosthetics are really expensive so can't afford to make a mistake and as all the 'boob shops' are closed atm, I need to buy online.

So, my question is, if you're tall (5"10) and a size 12, what is an ideal boob size?

I am your height and b cup. I weigh 65kg.

Amber0685 · 29/08/2020 14:40

Sorry meant to say s12 too.

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 29/08/2020 14:45

Size 12, 5’8 10st 5 and I wear a 32f / ff. measured via Boob or Bust / Bravissimo (absolutely don’t trust or use the M&S method).

yawnsvillex · 29/08/2020 15:01

@BuffaloCauliflower I'm going to try that ... I have worn a 32" before but wow it was like wearing a straight jacket.

BuffaloCauliflower · 29/08/2020 15:14

@yawnsvillex that will almost certainly be because the cup was too small, not the band. Wearing a too small cup pushes breast tissue into the band, a correctly fitting cup with all the breast tissue properly swooped and scooped into it (you should lean over and have a good grab to adjust when you put it on) won’t have that problem

BuffaloCauliflower · 29/08/2020 15:33

@remainin it’s extremely unlikely you’re a 36 band if you wear a size 12. A breast reduction also wouldn’t have made your rib cage smaller to go from a 38 to a 36, only the cup would change. Do give the Boob or Bust calculator a go.

remainin · 30/08/2020 01:45

@BuffaloCauliflower I don't know how you can say it's "extremely unlikely" that I'm a 36B because I assure you, that's my size!Smile

remainin · 30/08/2020 01:48

Of course, I lost weight before I had the breast reduction. I suppose I'm a size 10-12 but it really depends on the clothing brand.

veryvery · 30/08/2020 03:04

I've got to say, sorry, it's all very nice talking about breast tissue in cups and support and all that but as a woman who's had a mastectomy the first thought might be not pressing on scar tissue. Tight chest bands really might not be where it is at, so to speak.
I get a bit tearful trying to find bras to support the one boob to fit. Running bras, proper running bras, seemed non existent amongst all the post surgery specialists. I ended up on Amazon.

As someone post mastectomy, myself, I am not the typical boob or bust lean forward and measure customer. I am not someone who can abide a tight band on scar tissue with very little skin covering it customer.

Please remember the op had had a double mastectomy! There is no breast tissue to support. Just whatever prosthesis is chosen supported by a bra against the back. And the op might not want or need a super tight band but she certainly won't be able to measure according to boob or bust.

To be honest the op might not feel the same as me, I just know how frustrating it is with people getting evangelical about bra measuring measurements which don't fit you post op, I had really to get a bit more 'Heath Robinson' about the whole business and buy cheap bras and try different prosthetics to find solutions to see what was comfortable.

BuffaloCauliflower · 30/08/2020 08:17

@remainin what measurements is that based on though? Have you tightly measured your rib cage just under the bust and it’s come out at 36 inches? Because that’s the only way to be a 36. This would mean the vast majority of size 12 tops wouldn’t fit, based on usual top measurements. It’s very rare for someone’s band size to be more than their dress size plus 20 measured correctly. Most size 12 women are a 32 band. Not all, but most. A B cup also just means your overbust measurement is only 2 inches more than your under bust. That means each breast sticking out just 1 inch each, basically nothing at all. Does that seem like you?

But I have these conversations a lot and I know women are skeptical after years of bad M&S fittings. Do give this a go booborbust.com/, you might be surprised Smile

Blondiney · 30/08/2020 09:10

Good point, veryvery Flowers

BuffaloCauliflower · 30/08/2020 09:28

@veryvery the OP asked about what size boobs/prosthesis she should get that worked on her frame, not what bra she should buy, which would indeed have been a different issue all things considered. This highlighted the very common misunderstandings women have about bra sizes when suggesting what size might work on OPs frame, which then lead to tangential conversations. Correct bra sizing still stands when talking about boob size itself, because they are based on over bust and under bust measurements, it doesn’t mean a BRA that exact size will necessarily need fit for the OP and I certainly haven’t said that’s the case, I don’t think others have either.

Thinkpinkstink · 30/08/2020 10:03

If I could choose any bra size for a size 12 frame (thinking I could lose or gain weight in the future, so I'd want something that fitted the middle-ground and would work on a 10 or 14, and I'd want a bra size that was easy to buy for (DD+ is not so easy); I'd go for 34D.

veryvery · 30/08/2020 10:44

I didn't say you did* @BuffaloCauliflower* but you must appreciate it can be a somewhat emotive subject for someone who has had a mastectomy. Everybody talking at length (no matter how well meaning) about the 'correct' way to measure and 'correct' way to size using a method which is not really suitable for someone who has had a mastectomy can just make me feel a bit crap, like the bra police telling me I'm doing it wrong. But I guess that is just my issues really, but that is why I made the point I did.

remainin · 31/08/2020 01:42

I think that debating my bra size isn't helpful to OP, although I appreciate your concern!Smile

emma6776 · 31/08/2020 13:21

I’m a tallish size 12 and usually wear a 32F (although I do go up to a 34F in some styles). My boobs are quite small and definitely in proportion. I don’t think you can be a 36 band if you’re a size 12 xx

madaboutrunning · 31/08/2020 13:45

I'm pretty much the same size as you - similar weight, 5' 10 and size 10. I wear a 30E or 28F bra. My boobs are pretty small but in perfect proportion to my height/frame.

WingingWonder · 31/08/2020 13:58

Im 12/32DD and in proportion

PhilippaBlake · 31/08/2020 14:55

I'm 12, 32FF, and would say I'm in proportion and boobs are an average/medium size. No idea if that helps!

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 31/08/2020 15:03

I had a single mastectomy last year and was a size 12 and was a 34D so we went for that to even me out! Will they let you go and try some on?

I'm sure you've already done so, but knitted knockers are great if you haven't got any. I don't think they're taking orders at the moment.

MrsVeryTired · 31/08/2020 15:28

I'd probably like a 34D, I'm a 34F and they are too big.

Size 12 (apart from the aforementioned 34fs Grin which sometimes means I need a 14)

ginghamtablecloths · 31/08/2020 16:46

Why not try going down one cup size? You might be more comfortable with that.

Comefromaway · 31/08/2020 16:52

I’m shorter. 5foot 4 and size 12. I’m 34D/32DD depending on fit.

ShaNaNaNaNa · 31/08/2020 17:03

I’m 5’11 and size 12.

Always wore 34D, but the boob or bust bra measurements put me at 32G.

I’m ‘busty’ but not huge.

Passthecake30 · 31/08/2020 22:37

6ft, size 12, narrow frame, 30e/f depending on the make. My boobs like quite small to me....
